I believe that “Sən gəlməz oldun” is a masterpiece composition that transcends peoples, nationalities and languages. — I really like Azerbaijani mugham! I talked a lot about mugham with my friend Zaur Aliyev almost immediately after arriving in Baku. I dream of creating a song in which Azerbaijani mugham will sound. In addition to everything else that I do, spiritual chants - Sanskrit, Sufi, Orthodox prayers - occupy a special niche in my work. I am for all religious faiths to coexist with each other, and it is the language of music and melodies that can unite them. Somehow I came to this kind of music, apparently, the Almighty is leading me this way. I believe that there is nothing more beautiful and brings greater happiness than singing songs about God in different languages of different faiths. I know that mugham sounds especially beautiful, pure and piercing when performed by children, and if I ever record such a project with mugham chants of Islamic prayers, I will definitely invite Azerbaijani performers to participate in it.
I would also record a pop composition where you can create a synthesis with mugham. But this is a little difficult, since it is important for the modern listener that the sound is comfortable and familiar, and, unfortunately, not everyone understands authentic sound. I am a big fan of mugham, I admire this form of art, I consider it one of the most subtle and highest. Of all the arts, the closest to God are music and singing, especially mugham singing - this is such melismatic, such freedom, such lacy singing. It seems to me that the Almighty rejoices when he hears mugham.
— I remember your first visit to Baku during the tour of the first “Star Factory,” as well as your subsequent visits, at the end of which you always spoke with such warmth and kindness about the capital of Azerbaijan. What do you say this time?
— I vaguely remember my visits to Baku as part of the “Factory” group, then everything was a “gallop across Europe” and I didn’t really see the city. But my impressions of Baku have always been positive - a rich, beautiful, luxurious city with warm, hospitable people. How they fed and feed us here! I grew up in the Caucasus and always pay attention to how and where we are received. Azerbaijanis are incredibly hospitable people and the way they welcome guests in Baku shows how sincerely they are welcome. Thanks to everyone who welcomed us so warmly to Baku this time too.
