Tsurilo Yuri is an actor with gypsy blood and a Russian soul. He has come a long way to fame and audience recognition. Today, his creative repertoire includes almost 120 roles in TV series and feature films. Would you like to know where Yuri Tsurilo was born and who raised him? Are you also interested in the actor’s personal life? Then we recommend reading our article from the first to the last line.

Hard childhood

He was born in 1946 (December 10) in the city of Vyazniki, in the Vladimir region. His mother was Russian, and his father was a purebred gypsy. Parents of different nationalities could not get along together. Even having a common child did not allow them to save their union. Soon after Yura's birth, his father and mother separated. Each of them went their own way. The father was sent to prison for theft. And the mother, still a very young girl, decided to improve her personal life. She left for another city, where she met a new man.

Our hero was raised by his grandmother. She surrounded her grandson with care and attention. It was her that little Yura began to call mom. The elderly woman received a meager pension. This money was only enough for food. Kind people helped them and their grandson. They gave the boy used shoes and clothes.

Despite life's difficulties, Yura grew up as an active and purposeful child. From the age of 7 he attended a theater group. Teachers immediately noted his natural charm, artistry and stage presence.

The path to acting

In 1964, he packed his bags, bought a ticket and went to Moscow. At that time he was 18 years old. Yuri Tsurilo decided to enter a theater university. The guy would be gladly accepted into the Moscow Art Theater School. He had a recommendation for admission. The fact is that several years ago the famous actor Evgeny Kuznetsov came to Vyazniki. One day he visited the drama club where Yura studied. And among dozens, the Kuznetsov guys singled out Tsurilo. He immediately gave the boy a recommendation, putting his signature on it.

A native of Vyazniki did not take advantage of the chance given to him by fate. He relied only on himself and his abilities. As a result, the guy with an unusual appearance was allowed straight into the third round. But then he had a nervous breakdown. While reciting a passage from Makar Chudra, the young man began to cry. And then Yura refused to read the fable. He left the audience without any explanation.

After this, Tsurilo entered the capital’s theater universities several more times. But all attempts for one reason or another failed. And only in Yaroslavl he managed to become a student at the theater school. A few years later, Yura received his diploma. According to his assignment, he went to work at the Novgorod Theater. On the stage of this institution, our hero played about 80 roles.

In subsequent years, he worked in the theaters of Gorky (now Nizhny Novgorod), Novosibirsk and Norilsk.

Biography of Yuri Tsurilo

The biography of Yuri Tsurilo began in a small town in the Vladimir region. The parents of the future artist did not live together for long: the father was sent to prison, and the mother decided to start her life again, so she gave the child to be raised by his grandmother, who became his dearest and closest person.

Yuri's entire childhood was spent without money. Sometimes the parents of classmates helped him, buying coats, felt boots and other essentials. Already at the age of 14 the guy started working. Initially, he worked at a construction site, and at the age of 16 he was hired at a forge as a hammerman.

While studying at a general education institution, Yuri studied in a local drama club. Teachers, as well as guests of the performances, advised the guy to enroll in a theater university in the future, since it was not difficult to discern the actor’s talent there. Yuri took the advice, going to the capital when he turned 18 years old.

Initially, he tried to enter the Moscow Art Theater School, but was unable to enter because he did not pass the exams. Later, he went to the Shchukin School, passed the audition, but decided not to take the exams, as he got a role in the film “Royal Regatta”.

After some time, he nevertheless realized that without education he would not be able to build an acting career, so he applied to several universities, where as a result he was rejected. As a result, Yuri went to Yaroslavl, where he became a student at the theater school. After receiving his diploma, he was assigned to the Novgorod Drama Theater, on the stage of which he played at least 80 roles.

Already in 1993, he was lucky enough to become a member of the troupe of the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. On this stage he appeared before the audience in such productions as “Masquerade”, “A Pair of Bays”, “Marriage”, etc.

Yuri Tsurilo during filming

In 1984, he again appeared on the television screen, playing a role in the film “The Shining World.” The artist gained popularity after filming the historical film “Khrustalev, the car!” Later, such films as “In August 1944”, “Inhabited Island”, “Bodyguard” and many others appeared in his creative biography.

Yuri Tsurilo: films and TV series

Our hero's film debut took place back in 1966. The aspiring actor successfully portrayed the young rower Marco in the sports film “Royal Regatta”. His colleagues on the set were: Natalya Kustinskaya, Georgy Kulikov, Valentin Smirnitsky and other famous personalities.

The second film with the participation of Yuri Tsurilo was released in 1984. He played a hotel owner in the melodrama “The Shining World.” Then others followed.

But real popularity came to the artist at the age of 54. We are talking about the historical drama “Khrustalev, the car!”, released in 2000. Then Yuri Tsurilo received the first leading role. Because of this, he even quit his job at the Novgorod Theater. His character is General Yuri Klensky. Russian viewers were delighted with the film. Japanese critics also praised the drama. The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, but did not find a response in the hearts of the people present at the event.

Drama “Khrustalev, car!” made a real movie star out of a provincial actor. Directors and producers began to inundate Yuri with offers of cooperation. And he carefully studied each script, choosing roles that suited his character and soul.

In 2001, actor Tsurilo Yuri again tried on the image of a general. This time he took part in the filming of the Russian-Belarusian spy film “In August '44.”

Let's list his most interesting and memorable film works for 2002-2015:

  • “My Border” (2002) - Colonel Kartsev;
  • series “Gangster Petersburg” (seasons 4, 5, 6) (2003) – Roman Semenov;
  • military tape “I have the honor!” (2004) – Primakov (main character);
  • action-packed film “The Black Prince” (2005) – Peter I;

Movies

His origin helped Yuri get into cinema. After auditions at the Shchukin School, the guy and his friends went to Mosfilm, where they began to look for roles in the crowd. At that time, the comedy film “Royal Regatta” was being filmed at the studio, and by a fortunate coincidence, the director urgently needed an actor to play the role of a gypsy. Tsurilo had the necessary skills and appearance, saving the make-up artists from painstaking work. The guy was so proud of his achievement that he considered acting education completely unnecessary and refused further auditions at the Shchukin School.

Yuri Tsurilo in the film “The Shining World”

Tsurilo appeared on screen only almost twenty years later in 1984 in the film “The Shining World”, where he played the unremarkable role of a hotel owner. Since then, he began to appear on film sets more often, playing mostly episodic and minor roles.

A real breakthrough for the artist was the role of General Yuri Georgievich Klensky in the historical film by Alexei German “Khrustalev, the car!” When the actor was approved for the role, he brought this good news to his native Novgorod theater. But the director did not share his joy, saying that either Yuri starred in the film or continued to play on stage. Tsurilo, without hesitation, chose cinema and wrote a letter of resignation of his own free will, which was immediately signed by the director.

Filming the film took the actor seven whole years; due to interruptions in financing, they often stopped for a long time. The film, released in 1998, was shown at the Cannes Film Festival, where it did not find understanding among the audience. At the same time, Japanese film critics were delighted with the film. Representatives of the Russian film industry were also more clear in their opinions, who immediately stated that the film would find its place in Russian cinema.

The film made a star out of the provincial theater actor, providing him with a steady supply of film offers and increasing his demand in the eyes of directors. His role as a general soon turned into a recognizable role: more and more people were eager to see Yuri in the image of a military man, not alien to discipline and forceful methods of solving problems. Literally two years later, the film “In August 1944...” was released, where Tsurilo again played the general. Even in the acclaimed 2008 film “Inhabited Island,” he appeared in the role of a military centurion. However, this situation does not bother the artist himself, because, according to him, he shows first of all the character and fate of the character, and not a specific profession.

Yuri Tsurilo in the series “The Taste of Pomegranate”

The actor received an atypical role for himself in 2010 in the historical film “Pop”. The film was shot on a church theme, and, accordingly, Yuri had the chance to appear before the audience in the image of a famous figure among the Russian clergy - Metropolitan Sergius, who was killed during his return from Vilnius. An even more unexpected role was the image of an eastern sheikh, which Tsurilo showed to the public in the series “The Taste of Pomegranate.” Some have called his character a typical villain, but the actor himself does not think so. For him, the character of Sheikh Nadir is just a man who has experienced a personal tragedy that forces him to act decisively and effectively.

Career continuation

Today many people know who Yuri Tsurilo is. Films with his participation are regularly broadcast by the largest Russian television channels. In 2016, the artist pleased fans with several roles - a deputy in the series “Shuttle Girls”, the head of the platform in the comedy “Yolki-5” and a major general in the historical drama “Black Cat”.

Despite his advanced age (70 years), actor Tsurilo Yuri devotes himself entirely to his favorite work. In 2020, the Russian public will be able to see him in four films: the series “Playing with Fire”, the historical melodrama “Nanny” (Father Nikolai), the action film “Skif” and the drama “Teacher in Law. Fight."

He also continues to perform on the stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater, located in the Northern capital. Of course, age makes certain adjustments to work. If earlier Yuri Alekseevich played hooligans and ladies' men, now he gets the roles of heroes, wise with life experience. And he recognizes himself in some of the characters.

Personal life

Yuri met his future and only wife in his youth, when he was just setting out to conquer Moscow. His chosen one was a girl named Nadezhda, originally from Ivanovo, which is famous for its brides. The couple settled in a rented apartment in Moscow while Tsurilo tried to enter university. 5 years later, their son Alexey was born, who grew up watching his father’s films and, inspired by the characters played by Tsurilo, chose a military career for himself.

In 1977, the couple had a second son, Vsevolod, who turned out to be more similar to Yuri and later continued the family business, becoming an actor. During his creative career, he managed to collaborate with the Lensovet Theater, the Malyshchitsky Chamber Theater and the Comedy Theater. Nikolai Akimov. Vsevolod Tsurilo is raising two children – daughter Yaroslava from his first marriage and daughter Gerda.

The Tsurilo family traveled around Russia for a long time until they decided to settle in St. Petersburg. The actor purchased a small apartment, where he now lives with his wife and beloved dog. He prefers not to talk about his personal life, and he rarely gives interviews about the acting profession.

Yuri Tsurilo and his son Vsevolod Tsurilo

It’s interesting that Yuri Tsurilo and his son are not the only actors in the family. The man’s second cousin is Vasily Vasiliev, the legendary Yashka from the popular film “The Elusive Avengers.” It was Yuri who advised the younger Vasily to audition for director Edmond Keosayan.

Yuri Tsurilo: personal life, wife and children

The actor has long found his other half. An 18-year-old guy came to Moscow. One day he met a charming girl, Nadezhda. A native of the city of Ivanovo arrived in the capital to study. Yura beautifully and persistently courted Nadya. A few months later, the couple signed at the registry office and began to live under the same roof. At first they had to huddle in a rented room in a communal apartment. Then the lovers moved to Yaroslavl, where Yuri Tsurilo entered the local theater school. In his free time, he worked as a loader and car wash.

Soon the couple had their first child. Unfortunately, the name of Yuri's eldest son is not disclosed. It is only known that he chose the military profession. In February 1977, his wife gave the actor a second son. The boy was named Vsevolod.

He grew up a long time ago, graduated from SPATI, works at the Lensovet Theater, acts in films and TV series (“Era of the Sagittarius”, “Cop Wars”, “Separate Assignment” and others). Married. He has two daughters – Yaroslava and Gerda.

It seems that the gypsy roots still made themselves felt. After all, our hero and his family “roamed” around Mother Russia. He spent a long time searching for his place in life. Over the years, the Tsurilo family lived in cold Norilsk, rapidly developing Novosibirsk, ancient Novgorod, and so on.

As a result, Yuri Alekseevich, his wife and children decided to finally settle in St. Petersburg. The sons have long grown up and started their own families. Yuri and Nadezhda live together in a small apartment in good repair. They recently got a pet - a charming dog.

Childhood and youth

Yuri Tsurilo was born in the winter of 1946 in the provincial town of Vyazniki, which is located near the picturesque Klyazma River. In the post-war period, a large gypsy community settled here, where the boy’s father was from, who gave him a colorful surname and appearance. Tsurilo’s mother was Russian, which later allowed the artist to consider himself a “Russian person” at heart. His parents' marriage did not last long; they separated when Yuri was little. The mother decided to start life from scratch and gave her son to be raised by his grandmother, who became the closest person to him.

Yuri Tsurilo in his youth

My childhood was spent in constant lack of money. The old woman could not provide for herself and her grandson, and at the age of 14 the boy had to quit school to start working. He got a full-time job at a construction site and, despite his young age, worked equally with everyone else. In order to somehow escape from the harsh everyday life, Tsurilo became interested in acting and enrolled in a theater club.

Soon the hobby grew into something more serious, especially after the Soviet actor Yevgeny Kuznetsov visited their town. The artist was impressed by the young man’s talent, and he wrote him a letter of recommendation, which could help with admission to the theater school.

Yuri Tsurilo in the theater

Yuri decided to take advantage of the chance: as soon as he turned 18, he went to Moscow. There the guy applied to the Moscow Art Theater School, and thanks to a letter of recommendation, he immediately got into the 3rd round of auditions. But during the exam he became nervous, began to cry and flatly refused to read the poem. Such behavior put an end to his attempts to get into the Moscow Art Theater. Then there were attempts to enter the Shchukin School and other theater institutes, but to no avail. The upset guy some time later moved from Moscow to Yaroslavl, where he managed to enroll in college.

In 1973, after graduating from university, Yuri was assigned to the provincial drama theater in Novgorod. Despite the fact that the artist successfully and fruitfully played on its stage for a long time, he considers the time spent there a mistake: even while playing the main roles, he did not receive the experience and practice that the capital’s theaters provide.

Later, Tsurilo appeared on the stages of drama theaters in Norilsk, Novosibirsk, Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod), but ultimately settled in St. Petersburg, where he became an actor in the Alexandrinsky Theater troupe.
