Kirill Rubtsov: “For an actor, health is the main thing”

Childhood and youth

Kirill Viktorovich Rubtsov is a native Muscovite. He was born in the capital in November 1975. Kirill's mother is a doctor. It is unknown who the father's profession is. After his parents’ divorce, Rubtsov did not communicate with him for many years, harboring a grudge. According to the actor, he, a 13-year-old teenager, perceived the separation of loved ones as a tragedy. Relations with his father improved when Kirill matured and became an independent person.

In addition to Kirill Rubtsov, an older brother and sister were growing up in the family. My brother was deaf and dumb from birth. To communicate with him, Kirill learned sign language. It was his brother and communication with him that awakened the artist in Rubtsov. As children, boys organized home puppet theater performances.

The dream of becoming an actor led Kirill to a theater university. But on my first attempt, I didn’t succeed in becoming a student. For a long time the guy could not understand how he, so talented, was not accepted as an artist. Youthful maximalism suggested that the world was unfair. Offended by fate and the admissions committee, Kirill Rubtsov entered medical school.

The future artist studied until the 2nd year and dropped out - the family was in dire need of money. Kirill got a job as an orderly. And a few years later, when the opportunity arose to return to medical school, Rubtsov refused. He again remembered his childhood dream of shining on the stage.

This time, fate and the admissions committee were favorable to the young man: 27-year-old Kirill got into GITIS and Pike. I chose the theater school named after. B. Shchukin, where he was assigned to the workshop of Vladimir Ivanov. Rubtsov received his acting diploma at the age of 33. As if making up for lost time, he plunged into the world of theater and cinema, managing to prove himself everywhere.

In 2008, the creative biography of Kirill Rubtsov began: he was accepted into the troupe of the theater. E. Vakhtangov.

Theater activities

The graduate of the famous “Pike” had no problems finding employment. Immediately after receiving his diploma, he was accepted into the main troupe of the Theater. Vakhtangov. On the stage of this institution, K. Rubtsov played dozens of interesting roles. In the production of “White Acacia” he successfully got used to the image of the Sailor. And in the play “The Royal Hunt” he got the role of Admiral Greig.

In 2011, Kirill Viktorovich founded his own theater, called “S.A.D.” Today the troupe consists of 12 actors, including Laura Keosayan, Levkin Pavel and Yakimova Alena.

In 2011-2012 participated in the musical “The Sound of Music” at the Youth Palace. Producing director E. Pisarev approved him for the role of Captain Georg von Trapp.

Theater

On the Vakhtangov stage, Rubtsov played dozens of bright roles. In “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves” he played the robber Sirhan, in “White Acacia” he played the Sailor, in the play “People as People” the audience saw him as Hevern, and in “Mademoiselle Nitouche” he played Robert Champlattre.

The palette and genres of roles performed by Kirill Rubtsov are surprisingly wide, the artist organically transforms into all the images proposed by the directors. In Troilus and Cressida he is the philosophically ironic Achilles, and in The Royal Hunt he is the brave and noble Admiral Greig.

Kirill Rubtsov in the theater

After 3 years of working on the stage of the Vakhtangov Theater, Kirill Rubtsov became the creator of a new theater - S.A.D. (Theater of the Commonwealth of Drama Artists). The new temple of Melpomene is located in an amazing place in Moscow - the Apothecary Garden. This is a garden in the heart of the capital, where rare plants grow and fish live in small picturesque ponds. In 2011, Rubtsov headed S.A.D.

On the stage of the theater he headed, Kirill played Professor Bernard Soloway in the production of “Arcadia”, Tyler Taylor in “Balagan”, Christian Elias Drosselmeyer in “The Steampunk Nutcracker”.

In the 2011-2012 season, Kirill Rubtsov appeared on the stage of the Moscow Youth Palace as Captain Georg von Trapp in Yevgeny Pisarev’s play “The Sound of Music.”

Theatrical works of Kirill Rubtsov

In 2008, Kirill became a certified actor and was immediately accepted into the prestigious Vakhtangov Theater. His work there brought him many prominent roles and recognition from theatergoers and critics. In addition, it was there that he came up with his own project - the S.A.D theater (Commonwealth of Drama Artists) and together with his colleagues created it. Rubtsov calls his creation nothing less than the “Temple of Melpomene”, and the appropriate place was chosen for it - the mysterious and beautiful Apothecary Garden in Moscow.

The theatrical creative collection of actor Kirill Rubtsov includes almost 20 works in plays of various types. Here are the robber from Ali Baba, Achilles from Troilus and Cressida, Professor Soloway from Arcadia based on the play by Tom Stoppard, Admiral Greig from The Royal Hunt and many other significant, unique roles.

But Kirill considers the most important work for himself to be the work he does in his theater. Over the several years of its existence, 6 performances have already been staged on its stage, the best theater directors of Russia worked on them, and the roles of the heroes were played by some of the best actors, including the creator himself.

Movies

The artist made his debut in cinema in 2004, during the first courses of “Pike”. Kirill played an episode in Renata Litvinova’s film “Goddess: How I Fell in Love.” This was followed by supporting roles in the series “Redhead”, “Hour of Volkov”, “Law and Order: Criminal Intent”.

The first leading role went to Kirill Rubtsov in the comedy series “G Factor” directed by Chris Waite in 2010. In the same year, the TV series “Margosha” was released, where the actor played Sergei Aksyuta, the comedy melodrama “Travelers” and the action drama “Black Sheep”. In the latest project, Kirill Rubtsov’s skills were fully revealed.

Before the “Black Sheep” project, film directors saw Rubtsov exclusively as a charming heartthrob, exploiting the actor’s appearance to the fullest. Working in a military drama helped filmmakers take a closer look at Kirill and see that he brilliantly plays multi-layered psychological roles that require drama.

In September 2012, the Russia-1 TV channel premiered the 4-episode melodrama “My Mommy,” in which Anna Gorshkova, Dmitry Orlov, Pyotr Krasilov and Kirill Rubtsov played the main characters.

The same year, in December, viewers saw another film with Rubtsov in a key role. The Domashny channel broadcast Oleg Turansky’s melodrama “Lectures for Housewives.” The actor played the role of a young psychologist Kostya Voropaev with a free outlook on life. Olga Grishina, Boris Khvoshnyansky and Kirill Kyaro appeared in the project.

The actor admitted that he always gets the roles of “complex types,” like Konstantin in “Lectures for Housewives”:

“This is a person who is engaged in psychoanalysis, having problems from which, in theory, he should relieve his patients.”

Of Kirill Rubtsov's top-rated projects over the past 5 years, viewers note the role of Ivan Betsky in the historical film “Ekaterina” and Andrei Nekrasov in Oleg Larin’s crime drama “Chief.” New life". In the last film, which was first broadcast on the NTV channel, Rubtsov played the main role.

In 2016, Igor Kopylov’s crime film “Our Happy Tomorrow” about the formation of Soviet guild workers in the 1960s was released on NTV. The audience recognized their favorite artist in the role of international journalist Alexander Pereverzev. Rubtsov appeared in the company of colleagues Ilya Noskov, Olga Pavlovets, Evgeny Miller and Maria Lugovaya.

In the same year, the premiere of the melodrama “Bird” with Ivan Okhlobystin in the title role took place. Kirill Rubtsov admitted that working with his talented colleague was a real pleasure.

– Is it enough just to maintain physical fitness for an actor’s health?

– We work with human souls, that is, with subtle matters, so physics alone cannot do it. You need inspiration, which you need to take from somewhere: from books, nature, paintings, music, people who appear on your way. You feel fulfilled when you work with sensitive, smart people. There are young directors who are so able to structure the process of rehearsals and filming, to captivate them so much that you don’t think about any fatigue at all. Happy to work with Igor Kopylov, Kim Druzhinin, Ksenia Baskakova, Natalya Buchneva. Their ability to work with an actor is amazing, they give inspiration, and this is one of the components of the formula for health.

And of course, it’s a pleasure to work with Rimas Tuminas. He is undoubtedly a genius of our time with incredible imagination. He has a heightened sense of taste, so we exist here in harmony, and this, of course, directly affects the spiritual health of the artists and the theater as a whole.

– At the very beginning of the new season, you appeared on the stage of the Tabakov Theater. Is a new team stressful for you?

“It’s actually not easy to find yourself in an unfamiliar environment, but here everything happened differently. Rehearsals with Evgeny Pisarev and the guys from Tabakerka are the best thing that has happened in my life recently. The director created such an atmosphere that wings grew, even if the rehearsals were difficult. If something didn’t work out, the participants in the production did not lose respect for each other and sincerely wished that everything would finally work out for their partner. The result is a team that has its own secret, its own sacrament, and the audience, of course, sees that something fascinating, energetically incredibly beautiful is happening on stage. Oleg Pavlovich has a theater in which everything is aimed at ensuring that the work turns out well, that every role is performed.

Personal life

The actor is not married, but dreams of a family. Kirill Rubtsov claims that he does not know how to do something halfway, so work absorbs all his free time.

“Either you completely subordinate your life to this profession, or nothing will work out. There is no third option,” he believes.

Kirill Rubtsov and Sofia Lebedeva
Therefore, the theater, according to the artist, became his monastery and a refuge from real life.

Rubtsov has an unsuccessful experience of family life. He was married to classmate Sofya Lebedeva. The students went to the registry office in their second year, but divorced a year later. There were no children in this marriage.

In the theater backstage there were rumors about Kirill Rubtsov’s affair with actress Anastasia Begunova. But the artist’s fans received neither confirmation nor refutation.

Conversation with a star

Actor Kirill Rubtsov has his own formula for health, and he is happy to talk about its components to our readers.

Article from the newspaper "AiF Health"

Beautiful Inevitability

Kirill, you are busy to the limit: you work in three theaters, including artistic direction in your own, you are engaged in production work, you participate in performances and filming. How do you manage to physically cope with such a volume of work?

One fine day I felt that age was still making itself felt, some pistons were wearing out. Last season, for example, I had to go to filming in St. Petersburg every other day, that is, leave Moscow early in the morning and return late in the evening, but here there are endless rehearsals, performances... Serious stress, but for an actor, health is the main thing.

In order to continue to enjoy work in the usual volume and rhythm, I began to regularly go to the gym - it is very stimulating and gives an incredible surge of energy. I also try to eat right and get enough sleep - rebooting my brain is a must. In Moscow, it is becoming increasingly difficult to sleep due to the tense atmosphere of the city, chronic fatigue syndrome, and nervous fatigue, so you should not waste time on sleep, and if there is an opportunity to sleep in the dressing room before a performance, then I definitely do it.

Is maintaining physical fitness sufficient for acting health?

We work with human souls, that is, with subtle matters, so physics alone cannot do it. You need inspiration, which you need to take from somewhere: from books, nature, paintings, music, people who appear on your way. You feel fulfilled when you work with sensitive, smart people. Keep the child inside you

You are also an artistic director. On what principles do you build your theater?

You have to think about choosing “healthy” material. The difficulty is always to find one that should be heard today, that will resonate with us, the actors, and therefore the audience. And even if it responds with pain, it must be cleansing.

Your premiere of the play “Your Whole Life Ahead”, where you play a little boy, turned out to be incredibly touching and heartfelt...

I think the performance will be in demand. The themes that are heard there concern almost all of our contemporaries. I like that it simultaneously contains the theme of religion, the theme of old age, and the theme of loneliness. After all, we live in a world of total unlove, lonely souls. There are many beautiful, successful, independent and strong people in this world. They are trying to prove to themselves that they are free, but this is a myth - freedom is always relative: human connections are lost, there are fewer and fewer of those who want and can start a family, the institution of marriage is gradually disappearing...

How to recover from this?

Keep the child inside you for as long as possible. I am forty-one years old, and in one of the performances I play a small, sensitive, warm-hearted boy. And I’m comfortable, there’s still a lot of childishness in me (smiles). Yes, it is painful to live in the modern world with such a mentality, but it is worth it.
