Kirill PIROGOV: “Dreaming about a role is pointless”

Biography

Kirill Pirogov is a Russian actor and composer, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. Known for the films “Brother 2”, “Fan”, “Diary of a Killer”. He is also one of the leading artists of the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop theater.

Kirill was born in the capital of Iran - Tehran, where at that time his father worked, who served in the field of foreign trade and was engaged in the import of heavy road and construction equipment. After Iran, Kirill lived in Budapest for four years and just before starting school he moved to Moscow. But even there he rarely saw his father, who devoted all his time to work. The mother was mainly involved in raising the child.

Actor Kirill Pirogov

It was she who tried to occupy all her son’s free time. In addition to a special school with in-depth study of English and French, the boy graduated from a music school with a degree in piano. He also managed to train in the fencing section and attend the famous children's theater studio under the direction of Sergei Zinovievich Kazarnovsky.

Despite a creative upbringing, parents saw their child as a scientist or diplomat. They convinced him to enter Moscow State University or MGIMO, but Pirogov Jr. categorically chose a different path for himself. Kirill became a student at the Boris Shchukin Theater School and spent five years absorbing the knowledge shared by artistic director Vladimir Ivanov.

Kirill Pirogov in his youth

After graduation, he immediately began his biography brightly. Kirill Pirogov managed to do something incredible - the young man became the first actor not from GITIS, whom Pyotr Fomenko accepted into his troupe. Before this, the great director invited only those whom he trained himself.

Childhood and youth

Kirill was born in Tehran, into a family unrelated to the world of art. At that time, the boy’s father lived and worked in Iran, where he was engaged in the trade of road and construction equipment. The boy's mother was a Russian language teacher by profession. Kirill was lucky as a child, as he traveled a lot with his parents.

Two years after Kirill’s birth, the family moved to Budapest. They lived there for about four years. When the boy was six years old, the family returned to Moscow. Kirill was raised by his mother, and his father was constantly absent from work. The boy grew up as a charming and cunning child. From childhood, the boy was always surrounded by the love of adults.

In the capital, Kirill went to a specialized school with in-depth study of French and English. In addition to school, the boy attended classes at a music school, where he studied piano. Kirill also managed to attend the fencing section and the theater studio, where the artistic director was Sergei Zinovievich Kazarnovsky. The young man often toured with the theater group, and even visited America.

The parents dreamed that their son would receive a stable profession in the future - a diplomat or a scientist. His father and mother persuaded the young man to go to MGIMO or Moscow State University after graduating from school , but Kirill had other plans for this. The young man successfully passed the exams at the Shchukin Theater School.

At a creative university, Kirill studied acting for five years in the workshop of professor and Honored Artist Vladimir Vladimirovich Ivanov (born in 1947).

In his third year, the young actor played the role of Quentin in the production of “The Sound and the Fury” at the Fomenko Workshop Theater, directed by S. Zhenovach. At the age of twenty, the young actor successfully graduated from VTU Shchukin.

Movies

Immediately after theater school, Kirill Pirogov made his debut both on the theater stage and in cinema. The actor starred in the leading role in Georgy Danelia’s tragicomedy “Heads and Tails” and received the main jury prize at the Gatchina Film Festival “Literature and Cinema” for this work. But then the actor took a break for five years and focused on performances.

Sergei Bodrov Jr. and Kirill Pirogov in the film “Brother-2”

In 2000, the actor returned to the set to create the image of computer genius Ilya Network in Alexei Balabanov’s action film “Brother-2.” Kirill also got a memorable character in the film “Sisters” by Sergei Bodrov Jr. The actor portrayed a cold-blooded but charming bandit, ready to do anything to achieve his goal. True, this image is not close to Pirogov, since the actor does not like weapons and it is unpleasant for the artist to deal with them even in the cinema.

Kirill Pirogov became even more popular after the release of the detective story “The Diary of a Murderer,” where the actor recreated the image of a typical Russian intellectual, morally broken by the revolution. The next achievement in the actor’s career was the role of Anton Pavlovich Chekhov in the biographical romantic drama “The Groupie.” In addition, Kirill starred in the film adaptation of Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago, the fantastic football comedy The Game, and the military drama The Disappeared.

It is also worth noting that Kirill Pirogov tried himself as a composer and wrote music for four films. The actor’s original compositions are heard in the soundtracks to the melodrama “Peter FM”, the detective story “Revelations”, the comedy “Excavation” and the documentary film about Osip Mandelstam “Save My Speech Forever”.

After theater school, Pirogov appeared not only on the theater stage, but also in Russian cinema. The actor immediately got the main role in the tragic comedy film called “Heads and Tails.”

For this work, the artist was awarded the jury prize at the Gatchina Film Festival. After some time, the artist decided that he should take a break from filming, so he focused all his attention and talent on theatrical productions.

Kirill Pirogov’s personal life has also developed well, but he himself prefers not to talk about it with journalists, and also does not like to take photos of himself without special reasons for this.

In the movie "Sisters"

Already in the 2000s, the artist’s biography changed again - he returned to the set. Thus, Kirill Pirogov appeared in the television film “Brother-2”, directed by Alexey Balabanov. Later, the artist appeared in Sergei Bodrov’s film “Sisters”.

After the film “The Diary of a Murderer” appeared on television screens, the actor gained nationwide fame.

It can also be added that Pirogov tried his hand at being a composer, and also wrote music for several film projects.

Author's compositions can be heard in such films as “Split”, “Revelations”, “Save My Speech Forever” and “Peter FM”.

Personal life

Kirill Pirogov received a classical upbringing. Therefore, the artist believes that information relating to feelings, relationships or family should not be made public. Kirill Pirogov is not a public person at all; it is difficult to catch the actor at any social party.

Galina Tyunina and Kirill Pirogov

However, according to information from social networks, Kirill has a romantic relationship with his colleague at the Pyotr Fomenko Workshop theater, Galina Tyunina. But the actor himself neither confirms nor denies these rumors in the press. What the press knows today is that so far the actor has neither a wife nor children.

Pirogov likes to spend his leisure time alone with a good book or a positive film. The actor is indifferent to noisy events and is equally cold towards online communication. For example, as fans know, the artist does not even have a personal account on Instagram.

Fateful roles, Kirill Pirogov currently

All previous roles were not roles that could be called fateful, although many of the images conveyed by the actor were remembered by the audience. An important role for the actor was the villainous killer he played in “The Diary of a Killer.” He again starred with Kirill Serebrennikov.

In the image of a villain, he managed to show a living person who, by chance, found himself in a terrible life situation, after which he practically stopped living. The level of the series turned out to be so high that they wanted to call it a multi-part film, like another series - “The Red Chapel”, where Kirill also got a role. In The Red Chapel he had no words, since his hero was mute. Thanks to Pirogov’s acting arsenal, all the gestures and facial expressions of his hero were understandable to the viewer. The role was very big, which in itself was a success.

Kirill Pirogov is somewhat old-fashioned in his personal life

The actor himself believes that the role he dreams of does not exist in principle. In his opinion, all roles come by themselves. Some of them appear unexpectedly, it seems that they are not suitable at all, but later it turns out that the actor was waiting for just such a role, it was exactly what he needed.

Kirill took part in the filming of the series “Doctor Zhivago”. This is not an entirely accurate interpretation of Pasternak's novel. Screenwriter Yuri Arabov, although he moved away from the novel, managed to convey the essence. The actor appeared in the role of Gordon, managing to brilliantly convey this image.

Recently, several more films have appeared, shot with the participation of Pirogov - these are “Admiral”, “Admirer”, “Triptych”, and the television series “Revelations”.

Trotsky decides to retaliate, but his weapon of choice is not brute force, but words and information.

Kirill Pirogov in the TV series “Trotsky”

The politician creates a political testament, where for the first time he tells the whole truth about the revolution and the revolutionary movement, about the life and political struggle of Lenin and how the empire collapsed under the onslaught of new ideas and the masses of disenfranchised poor people inspired by these ideas.

As a result, the young actor received the main prize at the Gatchina Film Festival “Literature and Cinema” for this work.

Both in cinema and on the theater stage, the artist is in demand and successful. Kirill has quite a large number of fans; he is always recognized on the street. The artist is selective when choosing film roles. He tries not to participate in low-grade films and not to repeat himself in the images embodied on the screen.

Cinema

Kirill Pirogov's film debut was very bright. After the first film, he began to be recognized on the streets.

In 1995, Georgy Danelia’s film “Heads and Tails” was released, where the actor played the main role - the faithful, reliable, never-duper guy Oleg Chagin. Oleg goes to work in the North to save money for his own wedding. But while he is working, the bride is marrying someone else. Having learned this, Chagin does a crazy thing - he quits his job, opens the safe and flies to Moscow...

Pirogov was late for his first auditions with Daneliya because he was detained by the police on the subway. The director doubted for a long time who to take for the main role and considered the candidacy of Valery Nikolaev. “I was twenty years old then, I had just graduated from theater, and this role fell on me like happiness,” recalls Pirogov. “I haven’t been able to do anything yet, and I still don’t know much.” Just a little bit of impudence, or what? And a little less fear. My hero is a bit of a fairy-tale character, and I really love fairy tales and believe in them. Even if cynics believe that nothing like this can happen, in fact it is not so difficult to love. Maybe this is the most important thing in the world.”

Later there was a role in the cult action movie “Brother-2”. Kirill played Danila Bagrov's comrade-in-arms Ilya Setevoy.

A year later, Sergei Bodrov Jr., who played the main role in “Brother,” invited Pirogov as a director to the crime melodrama “Sisters,” and in the role of a bandit. Kirill was slightly surprised by the new role, but played with pleasure.

In 2002, the actor starred in the detective series “The Diary of a Murderer.” According to the plot of the film, graduate students throw a party in the archives of the Historical Museum, where they accidentally find a diary dated 1919. The diary instantly arouses interest, because from the first lines the author confesses to the murder of five people...

In 2005, Kirill played one of the roles in Alexei Balabanov’s acclaimed film “Dead Man’s Bluff.” He commented on this work: “Different life circumstances bring people together. There was such a moment. Lesha made such a movie. It was a difficult time, and I went to help him. The film is not bad, but Lesha still didn’t get what he wanted - a comic strip that removes any attempt at reliable perception, but in “Blind Man’s Bluff” it was still preserved. But I had to go far, far away and not get attached to anything. I can’t say that this is the closest film to me, but something similar happened in life, and I’m not going to deny it. It is very difficult for us to judge our own results.”

In subsequent years, the actor was often invited to filming. In particular, he played leading roles in the films: “Agitation Brigade “Beat the Enemy!”,” “The Disappeared,” “Revelations.” In the film “Peter FM” Kirill acted not only as an actor, but also as a composer.

In 2012, the romantic drama “Admirer” directed by Vitaly Melnikov was presented - a love story between the young writer Lydia Avilova and Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. Here Kirill Pirogov played the role of the famous writer. “I think any artist would be scared,” the actor said about this transformation. – I love Chekhov very much – his plays, his stories, his humoresques, journalism – despite the fact that all his works are different, but you hear him everywhere... He doesn’t have a single extra word – this is his hard work, which he wrote about in his plays . As far as I know, he was an incredible workaholic - he worked constantly, without stopping, despite all his life's ups and downs. Bunin was scolded for not working enough.”

The main role – the courier Pasha, who dreams of becoming a writer – was played by Kirill Pirogov in 2014 in the Russian-Ukrainian melodrama “Raskop”. Pasha and his friends, tired of the everyday hustle and bustle, decide to go on vacation, towards adventure. By the will of fate, he and his comrades find themselves at an archaeological site and, faced with the past, completely rethink their life...

In 2018, Kirill Pirogov, along with other foreign actors, was invited to the filming of the British series McMafia. The film was based on the book McMafia: Seriously Organized Crime by British journalist Misha Glenny. In his work, the author puts forward the theory that the collapse of the Soviet Union caused the rapid rise of crime throughout the world.

The beginning of the career of Kirill Pirogov, theater and films

Pirogov enjoys playing on stage with Fomenko.
All these are diverse roles, thanks to which he can show his talent. Thus, in the production of “Wolves and Sheep,” the young actor played the scoundrel Claudius Gorodetsky, and in “War and Peace” he accurately conveyed a completely different character, appearing in the role of the nobleman Nikolai Rostov. Kirill took part in the play “The Madman of Chaillot” and in the play “A Month in the Country”. Pirogov was also lucky with his debut film role, as he immediately starred in the leading role with such a brilliant director as Georgy Danelia. Until now, he himself has not understood how he got into this film; at the audition he was a hundred percent failure. However, Danelia decided to invite him. Despite the extreme excitement, the actor managed to convey the image of the idealistic hero Oleg, who seemed to accidentally find himself in our time. The film was called "Heads and Tails." Kirill is immensely grateful to the director for the patience shown to him as an inexperienced actor, as well as for the invaluable experience that he passed on to him during the filming process.

Melody of the verse: Kirill Pirogov For five years, the actor was not invited to any film, and then again, by chance, he found himself among the star team of actors starring in Alexei Balabanov’s “Brother 2.” The director saw him at other auditions, he liked Kirill’s “moving” face and invited him to star in his film. So in what later became a popular film, Kirill played the role of Ilya Setevoy. An invitation to the film “Sisters” soon followed, where Sergei Bodrov offered Pirogov one of the negative roles. The actor was surprised, but accepted the invitation. The scoundrel was played by Kirill very reliably. Madeleine Dzhabrailova and Kirill Pirogov Pirogov played another significant and memorable role with Kirill Serebrennikov in the film “Rostov-Papa, or the Southern Decameron.” His hero was a young man in love with his childhood friend.

“Brother-2”: What was the fate of the prostitute Marilyn, the hacker Network and Kostya Bolshoi

The second part of the film about the adventures of Danila Bagrov was released on big screens on May 11, 2000. Alexey Balabanov did not succumb to the persuasion of Sergei Bodrov Sr. and still filmed the film in the USA. Phrases from the film were scattered into quotes, the soundtrack was published as separate albums, Sergei Bodrov Jr., who played the main character, went missing in September 2002 in the Karmadon Gorge, and for the 20th anniversary of the philosophical action film, “KP” collected the stories of those who remained in the background of the picture.

Daria Yurgens (52 years old)

The prostitute Marilyn, who is “Dasha in Russian,” was played by Tomsk actress Daria Yurgens. She entered and studied at the famous Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography, and then entered the Youth Theater on Fontanka. “Brother 2” was only the second film in the actress’s career (after the drama “About Freaks and People”). At that time, she had already managed to be married to actor Yevgeny Dyatlov and gave birth to his son Yegor (the guy is now 29 years old, he also became an actor).

Alas, Daria was unable to build a stellar career, although she is in demand in TV series - she played in “Kamenskaya”, “Cop Wars”, and has been starring in “Sea Devils” for 14 years as a captain with the call sign Bagheera. Alexander Dyachenko (54 years old)

Athlete Alexander Dyachenko (height 191 cm and a quintal of muscles) played two roles at once in “Brother-2”: the Nikolaev Bank security guard Kostya Gromov, nicknamed Bolshoi, and his twin brother, NHL hockey player Dmitry. It was no coincidence that the handsome actor ended up in the film: since 1993, he lived in the USA, graduated from Columbia University there and worked in the US as a sports agent for famous Russian hockey players who began their careers overseas - this is how Alexey Morozov, Darius Kasparaitis, Jaromir Jagr appeared in the film. It was Dyachenko who agreed that Balabanov would film the scene right at a real Pittsburgh Penguins training session. The actor has dozens of roles in Russian films, but the most notable ones appeared not so long ago - in the TV series “Major” (the father of the main character), “The First” (Peter I), and in the 2018 American action film “Hunter Killer” he played Russian President Nikolai Zakarina.

In 2005, he divorced a Greek woman, with whom he lived in the United States and whose name he does not mention. Currently single. He plays in the Antigo group and stages performances.

Alexander Robak (46 years old)

Who would have thought that a follower of Mikhail Evdokimov, an ambassador of the image of the Russian peasant, who can wave a glass and save the Motherland, if necessary, began with the film “Brother-2”. An attentive viewer remembers the first scene, when a well-fed man in a jacket by a jeep - the master of life, a symbol of New Russia - near the Ostankino pond reads Lermontov to Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. It was 27-year-old actor Alexander Robak from Zlatoust.

Despite his gigantic filmography, he began his career takeoff in 2014 with the role of the cunning Vedeveshnik Vitka Karavay. Now in almost every TV series that comes out in Russia, Robak gets the role of a Russian hard worker (or brother): “Sweet Life”, “House Arrest”, “Beetles”, “Call” and so on. The actor has three children: Arseny (25 years old, actor), Platon (15 years old), Stepan (5 years old). Lives in Moscow, married to Olga Robak, who has a medical education.

Dmitry Orlov (48 years old)

One of the militants looking for Danila Bagrov in both the first and second parts of “Brother” was played by Dmitry Orlov - he is often confused with Vladimir Vdovichenkov. Thanks to his characteristic appearance, the artist often played the roles of bros, prisoners and sometimes security forces (“Sisters”, “Sea Patrol”, “God Has His Own Plans”, “Metro”). Most often these were not leading roles. But Orlov was lucky in love - he was married to the star of the film “Walk” Irina Pegova, who gave birth to his daughter Tatyana (13 years old). Divorced in 2011 and remarried cosmetologist Natalie Brazhnik. Participates in enterprise performances, was a co-host of the show “Between Us, Girls” (Channel One), and directed the film “Moscow Fireworks”.
