Coach of victory. How Stanislav Cherchesov managed to get Russian football players to play

Biography and career of a football player

Stanislav Cherchesov was born in North Ossetia in the regional center of Alagir, in a family that included four children. There he began playing football at a children's and youth sports school, and played both as a goalkeeper and in attack.

"Spartak" Ordzhonikidze

1981-1984

At the age of 18, Cherchesov ends up in the main team of the republic - Ordzhonikidsky “Spartak” (now the club is called “Alania”, and the city is Vladikavkaz), which had just been relegated from the first union league.

In 1983, Spartak took first place in the 3rd zone of the second league and returned to the first division. Stanislav Cherchesov is already the main goalkeeper of the club.

"Spartak Moscow

1984-1987, 1989-1993, 1995, 2003

The young goalkeeper was noticed in the capital, and Konstantin Ivanovich Beskov invited Cherchesov to Spartak. The goal of the “red-whites” at that time was defended by Rinat Dasaev, whom many called the best goalkeeper in the world. Cherchesov had no chance to play in the first team, but they do not refuse such offers, especially since, according to Cherchesov himself, he dreamed of playing for this club since childhood.

Cherchesov spent four years behind Dasaev (at the same time becoming the USSR champion in 1987), spent 1988 in Lokomotiv Moscow (I don’t know for sure how such transfers of football players were formalized in the Soviet Union, but now it would most likely be called “ rent").

And in 1989, after Dasaev left for Seville, Cherchesov returned to Spartak as number one. That year, Spartak regained the championship title and conceded the fewest goals, with Stanislav Cherchesov playing more than half of the championship matches (17), and according to the results of the season he was recognized as the best goalkeeper in the country.

Then there was the collapse of the USSR, followed by a transformation in domestic football, in which Moscow Spartak overnight became the undisputed leader, already holding two Russian championships. Cherchesov was the goalkeeper of Spartak in two successful European Cup campaigns for Muscovites (in 1991 and 1993, Spartak reached the semi-finals of the Champions Cup and Cup Winners' Cup).

Stanislav Cherchesov ended up in Spartak for the third time in 1995. He ended up there for a short period of time, playing only 8 matches, but what a match! 6 of them occurred in the group stage of the Champions League, when Spartak won 6 victories! Now this seems incredible.

And finally, Cherchesov’s last arrival at Spartak as a player dates back to 2002. At the end of his career, Stanislav Salamovich spent another season there, playing in seven official matches.

"Locomotive"

1988

With the question “How many times did Stanislav Cherchesov come to Spartak?” We figured it out, now we’ll find out where he went from there. The first time it was Lokomotiv, and as I said above, the transition was associated with the impossibility of being number one in Spartak.

For Lokomotiv, Cherchesov played all 30 matches of the USSR championship, and the club took a rather high seventh place for itself.

Dynamo Dresden

1993-1995

In 1993, Cherchesov signed a contract with Dynamo Dresden. Today it seems incredible - a player from a leading Russian club is moving to the camp of an outsider in the Bundesliga. But then we didn’t have huge salaries; the players literally went anywhere - to the championships of Poland, Israel, Finland.

Against this background, the Cherchesov’s option was simply wonderful - playing in the Bundesliga, living in a civilized country in the center of Europe. In his first season in Germany, Cherchesov helped Dynamo stay in the Bundesliga, but a year later the Dresden team took last place in the table.

If the club had remained in the second Bundesliga, Cherchesov might have continued to play in Germany, but financial problems befell Dynamo. As a result, the club president was sent to prison, Dynamo, which lost its professional license, was sent to the regional league.

That is why Cherchesov ended up in Spartak, which decided the issues of his future employment.

"Tyrol"

1996-2002

Cherchesov's second foreign club was the Austrian Tyrol. Stanislav played for him for six seasons, playing more than two hundred matches, becoming the champion of Austria three times.

And here, as in the case of Dynamo, the reasons for the separation of the Russian goalkeeper from the team were far from football: in 2002, Tyrol was declared bankrupt and ceased to exist

Russian national team (USSR, CIS)

1990-2002

Stanislav Cherchesov made his debut for the USSR national team on November 23, 1993 in a friendly match against the Trinidad and Tobago team (2:0). In the qualifying tournament for Euro 1992, Cherchesov played three matches, including against the Italian national team in Moscow, when a goalless draw brought our team the coveted ticket.

In the final tournament, the team played under the abbreviation “CIS”, and Cherchesov went to the tournament as Dmitry Kharin’s backup and did not play a single match. He served in the same capacity at the 1994 World Cup, although there he was entrusted with a place in goal in the match of the third round of the group stage against the Cameroon national team.

The only tournament where Stanislav Cherchesov was the undisputed number one of the Russian national team was the 1996 European Championship: then he took part in seven qualifying matches and two final matches.

The relatively small number of matches for the national team (49) is explained by the presence of strong competitors. At various times, such goalkeepers as Dmitry Kharin, Sergei Ovchinnikov, Alexander Filimonov, Ruslan Nigmatullin performed simultaneously with Cherchesov.

Stanislav Cherchesov played his last match for the Russian national team on February 13, 2000 in Israel (1:4). True, in 2002, the then national team coach Oleg Romantsev took him to the World Cup as a kind of mentor, but the 38-year-old goalkeeper never entered the field.

Biography of Stanislav Cherchesov: we talk about the sports career of the head coach of the Russian national team

We, of course, have seen enough of everything in our football. But this probably wasn’t the case. Over the past year, the head coach of the Russian national football team has received so much criticism that it was easy to come to the conclusion that this man took the helm of the team completely by accident, and our team at the 2018 World Cup cannot count on anything other than failure. Here the phrase “but the coach maintained icy calm” suggests itself. No. Didn't save it. Cherchesov answered questions from journalists on camera or with a voice recorder as sparingly and formally as possible and told the truth “behind the scenes.”

On the day of the friendly match with the Turks, the last one before the World Cup, it seemed that the tension in the headquarters would result in something completely bad. And only when the national team destroyed Saudi Arabia in the opening match did jokes, witticisms, and jokes begin to flow. Cherchesov is a cheerful person. Authoritarian, but fun. Yes, and authoritarian, after all, not to the extreme. When, after a break in the game with Egypt, with the score 0:0, our team came out of the stands, the coach stood right in the pile of players, and Dzyuba set the tone there, telling something, advising, not being happy with something. Stanislav Salamovich looked ahead.

National team goalkeeper

We studied the biography of Stanislav Cherchesov. He has a very extraordinary playing career behind him. He started at Spartak (Ordzhonikidze), then from 1984 to 1993 (with a break of one year at Lokomotiv) - goalkeeper of Spartak. And from the moment he left for Spain, Rinat Dasaev has been the main goalkeeper. Two USSR champion titles, two Russian champion titles, recognition as the country's best goalkeeper (1989, 1990, 1992), victory in the USSR Cup. In the national team, Cherchesov competed with another excellent goalkeeper Dmitry Kharin (CSKA). Stanislav Salamovich has 8 matches for the USSR national team, two for the CIS and 39 (!) for Russia.

In 1993, when our football players were leaving en masse for the West, Cherchesov became a player for Dynamo Dresden. Games in the Bundesliga against the great Bayern and other strongest clubs did not diminish the authority of the Russian player. His club fought for survival and remained among the strongest, largely thanks to the keeper. When the inevitable relegation took place, Cherchesov, in transit through Spartak, went to the Austrian Tyrol, where he played until 2002 (he won the championship three times and the Austrian Cup once), and ended his career in the same 2002 at Spartak. at 39 years old.

The path to the World Cup

Football “retirement” found Cherchesov a popular person in Russia, Germany, and, especially, Austria. Perfect knowledge of the German language and German football. It is quite logical that the Austrians invited the Russian to a coaching position. He headed the Wacker-Tirol club (ex-Tirol), and in 2006 he was invited to his native Spartak as a sports director, and in 2007 he became the head coach. Under Cherchesov, Spartak was unable to break the “curse”, that is, become a champion after several years of break, but won silver in the 2008 season. At that time in their history, the “red-whites” fired a coach for this. Moreover, the fans were unhappy with the mentor. Under his leadership, the club lost heavily to its principal rivals - CSKA (1:5) and Dynamo Kyiv (1:4).

Then Cherchesov headed Grozny “Terek” (2010-2012, best result 8th place), then Perm “Amkar” (2013), then there was work in Moscow “Dynamo” (2014-15). And in October 2020, a new foreign appointment. Cherchesov became the head of the Polish Legia, made this club a champion, won the National Cup and then... resigned. Due to disagreements with the club's management regarding strengthening before the Champions League. This happened on June 1, 2020. Already on August 10, Cherchesov replaced Leonid Slutsky as head coach of the Russian national team. So it became clear who will be the helmsman of our team at the 2018 World Cup.

TO THE POINT

Stanislav Cherchesov: We don’t have the word “problem”, we have questions

— With victory, Stanislav Salamovich. How did you manage to beat the Egyptians?

— We had to win this match in order to solve our problems, and Egypt had to win in order to stay in the tournament. These are completely different psychological attitudes, especially considering that Egypt plays as number two (details)

HOW IT WAS

The Russian national team beat Egypt and for the first time in its history reached the playoffs of the World Cup

Just a couple of weeks ago, this team was considered a worthless gang of millionaires, tired of football and of themselves. But the first victory was 5:0 over Saudi Arabia, the second was 3:1 over Salah and his Egypt. And now the whole country is in love with the Russian team. If this is a dream, then don’t wake us up – I want to watch it until the end. (details)

Stanislav Cherchesov – coach

Club career

Stanislav Cherchesov began his coaching career from the very bottom - the Austrian third division team Kufstein, then worked with Wacker-Tirol, which many mistakenly consider to be the successor of the Tyrol for which Cherchesov once played.

Then Stanislav Cherchesov worked with Russian clubs for eight years: Moscow Spartak and Dynamo, Zhemchuzhina-Sochi, Terek, Amkar.

Of course, I will dwell on Spartak in more detail. Having led the team after the 13th round of the 2007 Russian Championship, Stanislav Cherchesov almost led the “red-whites” to the championship. Spartak was in the lead until the penultimate round, where it tied in Ramenskoye with Saturn and let Zenit take first place.

Stanislav Cherchesov was fired from Spartak on August 14, 2008, after the team lost a home match in the third qualifying round of the Champions League to its once principal rival, Dynamo Kyiv. And for a long time, the fans of the “red-whites” could not forgive Cherchesov for transferring the club legend Yegor Titov to the reserve team.

The only club with which Cherchesov the coach achieved success was Legia Warsaw. However, despite winning a double with the team, Cherchesov was fired from the club, according to the official version “by mutual consent.”

Stanislav Cherchesov – head coach of the Russian national team

In August 2020, Stanislav Cherchesov became the head coach of the Russian national team. His task was to prepare the team for the home world championship; in fact, an employment contract was signed for this period.

Stanislav Salamovich had many critics - he did not take one player, and released another in the wrong position. These critics could not understand one simple thing - Cherchesov took on a thankless job and was virtually doomed to failure.

Why? Yes, because practically no one believed in the national team, and if it had not come out of such a weak group (Uruguay, Egypt, Saudi Arabia), which before the World Cup did not seem something incredible, Cherchesov would not have been forgiven for this - everyone It's a home tournament after all. And leaving such a group would definitely not bring him fame.

But what the Russian national team did under the leadership of Stanislav Cherchesov simply defies description: two beautiful victories in the group - 5:0 over Saudi Arabia and 3:1 over Egypt, and a victory over the Spanish national team in a penalty shootout. Even if our team only defended in that match, we were lucky, but this is the World Cup, this is Spain, we couldn’t have won any other way.

Moreover, our guys did not lose in the quarterfinals with Croatia, and if Fedor Smolov and Mario Fernandez had used their attempts in the penalty shootout, the Russian team would have fought with the England team to reach the World Cup final! Fantastic!

Well, I just remember the slogan that was born during the 2018 World Championships:

“You’re just space, Stas!”

Childhood and youth of Stanislav Cherchesov

The future goalkeeper was born into a large and friendly family. His father worked as a bus driver, and his mother was a housewife and raised five children. Stanislav was the youngest in the family, and was always under the protection of his four older sisters.

Childhood photo of Stanislav Cherchesov: the future goalkeeper and his family

Studying at school was difficult for him, and the restless boy was sent to the city football section. An amazing fact, but for a long time Cherchesov could not decide who he wanted to be more: a goalkeeper or a striker. He made his final and irrevocable choice only at the age of 14, taking his place at the goal.

In 1980, Cherchesov entered the Ordzhonikidze Institute of Physical Culture, and a year later he took a place in the goal of the local branch of Spartak. The young goalkeeper played for this team from 1981 to 1984, after which he received an invitation to Spartak Moscow.

Stanislav Cherchesov: the path to success As you know, you don’t get invited to Spartak twice, and therefore Cherchesov without hesitation went to Moscow for a tryout.
