Pavel Safonov: biography, creativity, career, personal life

Acting career in theater

Safonov - Russian director

In 1994, Pavel Valentinovich graduated from “Pike” and went to work at the Vakhtangov Theater. There he played in such productions as “The Tale”, “The Lion in Winter”, “The Inspector General”, etc.

At this time, Safonov Pavel Valentinovich continues to play in the theater. However, this happens very rarely, for the reason that the actor is now focusing on his directorial career. It is possible that Safonov will soon leave the stage altogether, much to the chagrin of his fans.

Stage director

For the first time, Pavel Valentinovich Safonov tried himself as a stage director while still a student. His debut work in this role was the production “Beautiful People”. Despite the fact that the performance was received with a bang, then no one could have imagined where all this would lead.

After some time, Safonov will again return to the profession of director. His next work was “The Seagull”. After this performance received many positive reviews, Pavel Valentinovich had no doubt that he was moving in the right direction. Throughout his entire directorial career, which continues to this day, the actor has staged more than ten wonderful performances, including “Woe from Wit,” “Invitation to Execution,” “Dreams of Rodion Romanovich,” “Caligula,” etc.

Olga Lomonosova and Pavel Safonov about their family

Olga Lomonosova and Pavel Safonov have been together for six years. During this time, the director and actress managed to produce four joint performances and give birth to two children. They told HELLO! how they never cease to amaze each other, why they are still not married, and how their five-month-old daughter helps at rehearsals for Tartuffe ! .

They met at the Theater. Vakhtangov, where Safonov served, both played in the play “Princess Turandot”: Olga, a first-year student at the Shchukin Theater School, in the crowd, Pavel in one of the roles. Three years later, Safonov took up directing and staged his graduation play “Beautiful People” in Shchuk, inviting Olga Lomonosova to play the main female role. But then there was no romance between them, and it couldn’t have happened - Olga was married, Pavel was also not free. Only two years later did Lomonosova and Safonov recognize each other. Everything happened so unexpectedly for both of them that they still cannot say how it all turned out, how their office romance began.

They have been together for six years. The eldest daughter, Varvara, is four and a half years old, the youngest Alexandra is only five months old. And the young parents continue to work hard and fruitfully, and again, like many years ago, together. On November 5, on the stage of the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, Pavel Safonov releases the premiere of the play “Tartuffe,” in which the main female role, Elmira, is played by Olga Lomonosova. They shared their successes and secrets with HELLO! .

About the frantic pace of life

My life is crazy now, such a frantic rhythm, a kaleidoscope, that sometimes I don’t even have time to eat. We carry Sasha with us everywhere: to rehearsals, performances. I feed her, she won’t take the pacifier, so I can’t leave my daughter at home. But she’s great, she gives me the opportunity to work. And I learn the texts while walking with her in the yard.

I thought it would be easier. When Olya comes to the theater with Sasha, a nanny and a bag of children's things, special rehearsals take place. (Laughs.) On the other hand, people become stronger by overcoming some obstacles. Therefore, I confess: we are both now in excellent professional shape and feel great.

About collaboration

As a director, I have a strange story with actress Olga Lomonosova. Starting from our first collaboration, from the play “Beautiful People,” I always doubted her. Then, of course, she was just “hatching”, taking shape as an actress, and the role of Natalya Petrovna was difficult, voluminous, and serious. It seemed to me that Olya was too frivolous for such a role. But as a result, she pleasantly surprised me. We started rehearsing “Pygmalion” with another actress, but it so happened that Olya unexpectedly “jumped” into the play. And again she surprised me with her desperate attempts and the way she played in the end. I was never convinced that Olya would play this or that role. And even in Tartuffe, at first I didn’t count on my wife either. But, having received carte blanche from the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya - I was given the time and the right to choose the actress for the main role myself - I thought: “Why not.”

Pavel about Olga

[Olga] constantly surprises me. (Smiles.) After all, how does it happen? A child appears in the family, and the whole life is turned upside down, primarily because the woman changes. But Olya, with the birth of Varya, her eldest daughter, almost did not change at all - even outwardly. And even now, when Sasha was born, Olya remained the same. And I really like it. My wife is a very responsible mother, she handles everything herself. I understand that it is more difficult for her than for me, she feeds, sleeps little, and in the morning she also has to rehearse. This deserves respect, and I see and appreciate all of this.

Filming

Cinema did not spare our hero either. Actor Pavel Valentinovich Safonov did not appear in films very often, but it is simply impossible not to talk about them.

His debut film work was Georgy Danelia’s film “Heads and Tails,” filmed in 1995. Other well-known actors also starred with our hero: Kirill Pirogov, Leonid Yarmolnik, Ivan Ryzhov, Gennady Nazarov, Yuri Stepanov and others. It is worth saying that Safonov coped very well with his role. It was hard to believe that this was a “newbie” playing.

Four years after the release of “Heads and Tails,” actor Pavel Valentinovich Safonov was again invited to act in films. This time it was Alexander Surin’s film “Flowers for Winners”, where our hero got one of the main roles.

In 2002, Pavel Valentinovich once again acted in films, in the series “A Man’s Work.” Then the actor completely stops appearing on film sets, devoting himself entirely to the theater.

About personal

The personal life of Pavel Valentinovich Safonov occupies a special place in the biography. Our hero lives in a civil marriage with theater and film actress Olga Olegovna Lomonosova, known to viewers from such films as “Military Intelligence”, “Private Investigation of a Retired Colonel”, “Secrets and Lies”, “Don’t Be Born Beautiful”, “Big Evil and petty dirty tricks”, “Orca”, “There are no exes”, “Informed source in Moscow”, etc. Together they are raising three wonderful children in whom they dote on – Varvara, Alexandra and Fyodor.

The acquaintance of Pavel Valentinovich Safonov and Olga Olegovna Lomonosova took place within the walls of the theater, or to be more precise, during a rehearsal of the play “Princess Turandot”. However, the romance between the artists began only a few years later.

Despite the fact that the creative couple has been living together for more than 10 years, they still do not intend to register their relationship, explaining this by the fact that feelings do not require any pieces of paper.
