Name: Bogdan Stupka Date of birth: 08/27/1941 Where was born: Kulikovo Height: 179 cm Date of death: July 22, 2012 Cause of death: acute heart failure secondary to long-term cancer Where is buried: Baikovo Cemetery, Ukraine

This actor was loved by audiences in many countries. He was able to create vivid images in theater and cinema, remaining above historical events and changes. Having made a dizzying career from a young actor to the Minister of Culture, he will remain in the hearts of his admirers primarily as a multifaceted and talented performer of poignant roles.

It was August 1941, the second month of the war. The spouses Maria and Sylvester Dmitrievich Stupka, living in the town of Kulikovo, not far from Lvov, had a boy named Bogdan.

The young parents had known each other since childhood and were distinguished by their artistry: Maria played in the amateur artistic group “Prosvita”, and Sylvester was a famous local singer who sang in the choir with his brother. Aunt Bogdana was an accompanist.

From birth the child was surrounded by a musical atmosphere.

He was Ukrainian by nationality. But the branches of Russian and Polish families were closely intertwined in the family.

Bogdan Stupka recalled his childhood and youth with warmth. He told how he ran fishing with the boys, picked mushrooms near the house, and went to church with his parents for services.

When the war ended and the boy needed to start his studies, the family moved to Lviv.

Bogdan entered the 37th Lviv secondary school. During his studies, Bogdan participated in amateur productions, even being a school entertainer and Santa Claus. Then he remembered that he liked playing.

Despite his creative family environment, Bogdan did not dream of an acting career. He tried to enter the Polytechnic Institute, but did not overcome the competitive selection.

It was the time of the thaw. In his youth, Bogdan Stupka, a handsome man and a famous Lviv dude, sang well, danced rock and roll and worked... as an astrologer. He was a real night photographer of variable stars and a romantic "sixties". Stately (almost 180 cm tall), fashionable and musical, he simply could not be anyone other than an actor.

The young man entered the studio of the Lviv State Drama Theater named after. M.K Zankovetskaya. At the same time, he worked as an entertainer with the first Lviv jazz band “Rhythm”, which later became known as “Medicus”.

An eventful life did not prevent the young actor from completing his studies with honors. He was talented, everyone noticed it. Even in the army, he served as a spoken word artist.

After demobilization, the young actor returned to his native theater. He was a success with the public, and soon moved from supporting roles to playing leading roles. While still very young, he had the opportunity to perform the main role in the play “Richard III” based on the play by William Shakespeare. It was a brilliant success and recognition among audiences and theater critics.

In 1978, Bogdan Stupka received an invitation from the Kyiv Drama Theater. He accepted the offer and moved to Kyiv.

Artistic director of the theater. I. Franko did not disappoint the actor’s expectations: on this stage the actor played the main roles in many famous performances.

In 1984 he received a diploma in theater studies, having completed his studies at the Kiev State Institute of Theater Arts.

In 1999, Bogdan Silvestrovich headed the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. During his two years as minister, he managed to do a lot for the development and popularization of Ukrainian culture, and people remember his law “for pensioners”: elderly people were allowed into unoccupied seats in the hall for free. This law has now been repealed.

Since 2001, Bogdan Stupka was the permanent artistic director of his native theater, until his last day.

Personal life and family of the actor

Despite all his charm and incredible success with girls, Bogdan was serious about choosing a life partner. He respected and honored his parents, and his mother and father were able to raise him in good family traditions, showing by their own example that the profession of an artist does not oblige a person to lead a bohemian lifestyle. At first, the parents did not approve of their son’s choice precisely because they feared for the peace and harmony in Bogdan’s family life. Later, Bogdan’s father was proud of his daughter-in-law, and the family that Bogdan and his young wife were able to create.

Bogdan met Larisa Kornienko in Lvov, where she came from Baku after graduating from the choreographic school. They met in theaters and crossed paths at work. But they began to communicate closely some time after the first meeting.

Larisa was 21 years old. Bogdan immediately liked the young, slender ballerina. They talked and found more and more common views on life, acting and art in general. Their romance lasted four years before they got married.

The parents' fears were unfounded. Bogdan and Larisa created a good, strong family. Bogdan Silvestrovich said that he always loved one profession and one woman. Larisa Semyonovna, in turn, was able to prevent creative jealousy from developing, accept the fact that the husband is the main talent in the family, and devote her life to him. Moreover, maybe it was the work in the theater of both spouses that helped them understand each other and overcome the difficulties that arose.

At the beginning of their married life, the couple did not have enough money, like many others, and one day the family was on the verge of breaking up. But having been in this situation once, the couple never again allowed themselves even the thought of separation.

Larisa took upon herself the solution of many everyday issues: from getting an apartment, putting together a wardrobe, to planning family vacations and Bogdan Silvestrovich’s diet. They lived rather closed lives, did not allow anyone into their personal lives, and did not like noisy feasts. We enjoyed the time spent within the family.

Only one child was born in the family - son Ostap. He is very similar to his father, and continues the acting family tradition.

Ostap Stupka appears on the stage of the theater, which was directed by his father for many years.

Ostap gave his father two grandchildren and a granddaughter: Dmitry Ostapovich, Ustina Ostapovna and Bogdan Ostapovich Stupka. Dmitry became an actor, known for his participation in the film “We are from the Future.”

Family

Bogdan was born in a small village called Kulikov. Now it is Zholkovsky district of Lviv region. At the time of Stupka's birth, the village was under Nazi occupation.

Bogdan's father, Sylvester Dmitrievich Stupka, was an opera singer. But about the mother, Maria Grigorievna, there is no information about her type of activity - most likely, she was simply raising her son and maintaining the house.

In general, the actor’s family was more than musical. My father sang in the choir at the Lviv Opera House, his sister was an accompanist, and my mother’s brother was a soloist.

So, even if only from the musical side, Bogdan grew up in a theatrical atmosphere. Already as a child, he often had to be on the other side of the stage - and wait behind the scenes for his father, not to mention often attending his academic concerts. When the time came to send Bogdan to secondary school, in 1948 the family moved to Lviv.

In Lviv, Stupka studied at secondary school No. 4, after graduating from which he wanted to enter the chemistry department of Lviv University. The family did not dictate the direction in life for young Mortar, and he set off on a free voyage...

Movies

The actor’s first experience of working on a film set was in a small, inconspicuous role. And the very next film made the actor popular. In 1970, the film “White Bird with a Black Mark” was released. Bogdan got the complex, ambiguous role of Orestes the Beller, which he performed simply brilliantly!

Since then, despite being busy in the theater, he has starred in several films every year. The actor’s filmography, according to Wikipedia, includes 109 roles, many of which are major. In any role, even a supporting one, Bogdan Stupka was memorable thanks to his unusual, artistic manner.

During his long acting life, Bogdan Silvestrovich embodied the images of kings, the general secretary, and several hetmans. According to cinema experts, Bogdan Stupka created, one might say, the “standard” image of Bogdan Khmelnitsky in the Polish film “With Fire and Sword”, and Taras Bulba in the film by Vladimir Bortko based on the story by N.V. Gogol.

Films with actor Bogdan Stupka are well known and loved in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.

Only those closest to him knew about Bogdan Stupka’s serious illness. For several months, doctors struggled with the artist’s serious illness. Bogdan Stupka spent the last six months in the Feofaniya hospital, and before that he was operated on several times by German doctors. On Sunday night, the actor suffered a stroke and fell into a coma. At the beginning of eight in the morning, the heart of the most famous actor in Ukraine stopped; Bogdan Stupka died of acute heart failure.

In an interview with Segodnya, Ostap Stupka said that there were no doctors near the actor at the time of his death. “When he died, there were no doctors near him - our medicine had days off. But they did not reassure us; the disease was eating him up before our eyes. We even wanted to take him home,” said Ostap.

The presidents of Russia and Ukraine expressed their condolences to the actor’s family and friends. Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov called Stupka “a truly people’s artist, whose work was admired by millions of people in many parts of the world.” And Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky described him as “one of the greatest actors of our time.”

During his life, Stupka played more than 100 roles in the theater and starred in more than 90 films. His every appearance on stage or on camera is memorable. Acting talent, masculine energy, amazing honesty, sincerity and truthfulness of every word spoken and movement made made the audience believe in the image created by Bogdan Silvestrovich.

Director Vladimir Bortko told RIA Novosti that Bogdan Stupka was a very “cheerful, kind, and most importantly, wise person.” “We worked on “Taras Bulba” for a whole year. Filming sometimes took place in extremely difficult conditions, but Bogdan Silvestrovich was always remarkably easy to communicate with. He also encouraged his young comrades, showing that “there is still gunpowder in the flasks. And the film crew, looking at his energy, lived,” the director shared his memories.

Actor Igor Petrenko, who worked with Bogdan Stupka on the films “Driver for Vera” and “Taras Bulba,” also said that he was “an incredible partner, a keeper of great acting traditions, a sensitive person.”

“Bogdan Silvestrovich was always at the center of the film crew. He shared his experience with us, young actors. Even if he was in pain, he continued not only to play, but also to live with a smile on his face,” Petrenko shared his memories.

Bogdan Stupka was remembered not only for his large roles in Russian cinema, but also played in the theater. One of his most notable works is the play “Old World Love” by Valery Fokin.

Fokin remembers the actor as a unique professional and a person of rare spiritual qualities. “I would like to say that this is a very serious loss. These are not empty words, this is truly a great loss for both Ukrainian and Russian culture. He was an absolutely unique artist who could play everything. Just everything - in any genres, any roles, big and small, comedic and tragic, whatever... Besides this, he was a wonderful person..." Fokin told the agency.

“When we were rehearsing the play “Old World Love” based on Gogol, we all came to the rehearsal with the anticipation of something interesting and fun. He knew how to create an atmosphere, and even in difficult moments courage did not leave him; he loved to communicate. It happens rarely when such a huge talent is also combined with unique human qualities... He often came to Russia, acted in films, played on tour, but “Old World Love”, where he worked together with Liya Akhedzhakova for several years, is the only such Russian theatrical a project in which Bogdan Stupka participated from the first rehearsal to the premiere,” recalls Fokin.

Liya Akhedzhakova, who played with Bogdan Stupka in the play “Old World Love,” is in awe of the entire work of the actor.

“He was a wonderful actor and an amazing person. We kept in touch and were friends. Two months ago I saw him at the Franco Theater, we played a play there. He came, gave me a book, and told me about his operation in Germany. He often had a fever, he drank Fervex and went to the theater. He came to the theater every day and could not live without him. A real artist,” said Akhedzhakova.

According to the actress, the roles created by Bogdan Stupka have always been distinguished by a subtle psychological pattern.

“I saw him in the role of Tevye, in the famous play “Tevye-Tevel” at the Franco Theater, in which he played for many, many years. When he came out, it seemed as if he was being tied up behind the scenes, and then he finally broke his bonds and burst onto the stage. Moreover, as an actor, he used some of the finest colors. He did not play Jewishness in the usual way, but very subtly, almost imperceptibly, he portrayed a stunning classical character. There was so much life in his Tevye that even misfortune, even tragedy, appeared in him in some special way. Everyone wanted to live in it,” the actress shared her impressions.

Akhedzhakova called Bogdan Stupka one of her best stage partners: “I have had many good partners in my life, but, perhaps, no one can love the way he knew how to love on stage.”

According to the actress, the play was played for several years, but then Stupka was forced to abandon the role due to his heavy work in cinema.

“He played greedily and played wonderfully. He was in great demand in Russia, he was madly loved here. I remember meeting him at a film studio, it seems, at Lenfilm. He went to the shoot with a high fever. As always, I rushed to him, he always picked me up, kissed me and said “my blue-winged quail”... He was some absolutely bright person,” says Akhedzhakova.

According to her, Stupka was a cheerful person who knew how to create a festive atmosphere.

“I remember how our Sovremennik theater came on tour and played at the Franco Theater. Bogdan came and gave us an incredible banquet, it was the most fun, the happiest banquet that I remember at Sovremennik. He sang, he had an operatic voice, he laughed, he told theatrical stories, jokes, he got everyone going. He was a brilliant man. He and I worked together only once, but then we were friends until the very end,” recalls Akhedzhakova.

The acting duo of Liya Akhedzhakova and Bogdan Stupka also appeared in documentaries. In 2009, TV journalist Leonid Parfenov made the film “Bird-Gogol”, where he asked actors to play “old-world landowners”.

“I called Bogdan Silvestrovich in Kyiv and asked: “Could you and Liya Akhedzhakova show on camera what it means to be old-world landowners?” “Yes, with pleasure!” he replied. And how they selflessly bathed in these images, feeding each other imaginary dumplings! How we dreamed of playing together - it always seems that good people have an eternity left,” Parfenov shared his memories.
