Childhood
Alexander was born in the Bulgarian town of Kazanlak on April 1, 1947, and in May his parents Grigory Solomonovich and Sima Mikhailovna left Bulgaria. There were several moves, and in the end the family settled in Leningrad.
Since childhood, the child had a dream - to become an artist. He participated in productions prepared by the theater group at school. He liked to be the center of attention; he simply adored the school theater stage and the applause of the audience.
Alexander Rapoport sang beautifully, so he was visible at school evenings. The parents wanted their son to study music from a teacher, but since Alexander was restless and did not like to learn notes, which were not interesting to him at that moment, the parental idea failed. But from the “yard musicians” he very quickly learned to play the guitar. His parents did not like his childhood and youth hobbies for the theater, and they did not perceive them as an upcoming profession.
Childhood and youth
Alexander Grigorievich Rapoport was born on April 1, 1947 in the Bulgarian city of Kazanlak.
His father, Grigory Solomonovich, was a former military man, but during his life he changed many professions, having worked as a diver, actor, doctor and turner. The future artist’s mother, Sima Mikhailovna, supported her husband in everything.
Immediately after the birth of Alexander, the Rapoport family moved to Leningrad. From an early age, the boy dreamed of becoming an actor, but his parents treated this profession with irony.
Father and mother insisted that Alexander enter medical school. It is curious that Rapoport Sr. also studied at the same university at the same time as his son.
Alexander Rapoport had no interest in medicine, so he studied carelessly and never prepared for exams. His only hobby was amateur theater, in which he often performed on stage. In addition, he was on the student basketball team.
When he began specializing in psychiatry in his fourth year, Rapoport became seriously interested in the new subject. In this regard, he began to diligently prepare for classes.
After receiving his diploma, Alexander Grigorievich got a job at the famous Moscow clinic named after. Kashchenko.
Initially, his career was going very well, but in 1980 he was arrested for refusing to recognize conscripts trying to evade military service as unhealthy.
Rapoport was charged with political charges, as a result of which he faced the threat of spending about 4 years behind bars. In this regard, he decided to leave Russia.
Rapoport and his son went on foot to Barcelona. There was a catastrophic lack of money, so along the way he took on any job and even sang in the streets.
In 1990, Alexander Rapoport ended up in America, where he initially worked as a taxi driver. After some time, he returned to medical practice. He soon entered Adelphi University to improve his knowledge in the field of psychiatry.
Currently, Rapoport is acting in films and is engaged in medical activities. He also conducts trainings on human relationships.
Medical Institute
After graduating from school with not exactly good grades, Alexander Rapoport, at the insistence of his parents, entered the Perm Medical Institute (Jewish children were not admitted to the Leningrad and Moscow Institutes). He studied with his father, who also wanted to become a doctor. This is explained by the fact that my father began to seriously study hypnosis, and without the appropriate diploma he would not have been able to work.
At the institute, the guy takes part in amateur theater, sings in an ensemble, and plays basketball. They took him to the team because of his height - 188 cm. But the young man was not very interested in his studies, and only when he began specializing in psychiatry did Alexander Rapoport literally become interested in this subject. From that moment on, interest appeared, and he began to study with zeal. Several times during his studies, Alexander was sent to the capital to see the luminary of sexology, Professor Vasilchenko.
Biography
Alexander Rappoport was born on April 1, 1947 in the small Bulgarian town of Kazanlak. During this period, little Sasha's father served as an officer. Immediately after the birth of a child, the family leaves the country, settling first in Georgia, and then in Russia, settling in Leningrad. From early childhood, the boy dreamed of becoming an actor, but his parents were strongly against such a frivolous profession. At the insistence of his father, Sasha enters the Perm Medical Institute (by the way, at the same time as his father). But even there the desire to become an artist does not fade. At first, medicine did not attract the young man’s interest at all; he listened to lectures with half an ear, and often had to retake exams. But in his final years, when they began to study psychiatry itself, Sasha became interested, and studying began to bring pleasure.
After graduating from medical school, Alexander goes to work at the famous Moscow clinic named after P. P. Kashchenko. Everything was fine until trouble came to the house.
Job
The knowledge and experience gained from Vasilchenko came in handy when he was assigned to a hospital as a neurologist in the city of Berezniki as part of a university assignment. I liked the work, and there were enough patients. But Alexander did not forget about the stage. On weekends, he went on tour with singing groups to nearby settlements, played the guitar and sang songs.
No matter how much Alexander liked his work, he was drawn to the capital. Quite by chance, an apartment exchange turned up, and he and his family are going to Moscow. He was hired to work at the hospital. Kashchenko for the position of psychiatrist. Often I had to be on duty around the city as a doctor.
Arrest and prison term
In 1980, a black streak came in the biography of Alexander Rapoport. He was arrested on charges of refusing to recognize as unhealthy conscripts who simply evaded military service. Years later, Alexander will say about this: “The conflict with the authorities on professional psychiatric grounds was worth four lost years.” The years were actually lost, since he was released with the charges completely dropped. However, he was not hired to his previous place of work. For Alexander it was a matter of honor to be restored to Kashchenko.
He was reinstated through court. The residue from everything that happened in his life remained. The desire to leave the country is maturing.
Personal life of Ksenia Rappoport
Ksenia has two daughters. She gave birth to her first child in 1994. Today Dasha is already quite an adult. Even though they have completely different personalities, they get along well.

In 2003, Ksenia had an affair with theater director Boyakov. He was married, but was not against additional relationships. The several-month romance ended in a painful breakup for the actress.
Emigration to America
In 1990, he and his family went to America. It was hard at first when I was in a foreign country. He worked as a taxi driver in the evenings, and during the day he took a course at Adelphi University, confirming his medical diploma and deepening the knowledge acquired in his youth. After completing the course, he received an American diploma as a psychotherapist, thanks to which he was able to get a job in a psychological assistance agency organized for Russian emigrants. After some time, Rapoport had the opportunity to open his own business - a psychotherapy office.
Cinematographic works
Rapoport appeared in Russian cinema in the early 2000s. At first these were small roles in such diverse films as: “Permanent Residence”, “Spy Games”, “Assassination”. In 2005, Alexander starred in 12 films, the most famous being the following works:

In 2010, Alexander played his first leading role in the film Nanolove , in which he played the oligarch Nikolai Davitsky. The following year, Rapoport was involved in many projects, where he again played supporting characters. At the same time, all his heroes always turned out to be memorable, bright, and original.
In 2014, the premiere of the psychological series “The Reader” took place, in which the eccentric artist played the main role of the Reader - a psychologist, a collector of human emotions. In 2020, Alexander replenished his creative treasury with three popular projects: “Fathers”, “Psychologists”, Sleeping. In the latest film, he played a CIA agent, Paul Bradfield, who specializes in organizing protest movements.
In 2020, premiere screenings of four films with Alexander’s participation are planned. Namely: “Green van. A completely different story”, “To Paris”, “Beyond Death”, “The Brightest Darkness”.
Singer and actor
Alexander Rapoport never stopped thinking about the theater and the audience for a minute. He liked the idea of hosting a radio show that highlighted the psychological problems of children. Since 2000, Alexander has acted in Russian-language films. The first film was “My Prechistenka” directed by Georgy Danelia. He also made his debut on Russian screens in the film “Permanent Residence.”
He began acting in adulthood. In 2000 he turned 53 years old. Nevertheless, Alexander Rapoport’s filmography includes more than 100 films and TV series. Most memorable works:

Finally, Alexander Rapoport's dream comes true; he receives an acting education at a New York school, after which he is invited to the American Steps Theater. On television, he takes part in Russian show programs, and later acts as a presenter in the American television program “An Hour to Midnight.”
Rapoport works as a guest actor at the Russian Sovremennik Theater. He takes part in the performances of this theater: “Enemies. Love Story" and "Autumn Sonata". Invited to work in the “Hotel of Two Worlds” project. The actor gained great popularity after playing the main roles in the films “The Reader” and “Nanolove”.
Being a psychotherapist, Alexander Grigorievich did an excellent job with his role in The Reader, a detective series with complicated crimes. The Reader agency began its work only in cases where the police refused. He is a psychologist and avid collector of human emotions who obsessively dives into people's feelings to unravel their secret motives.

Alexander Rapoport has been collaborating with the Sovremennik Theater since 2011. Performs the role of Rav Lambert in the play “Enemies. A Love Story" based on the novel by Isaac Bashevis Singer and Leonardo in Ingmar Bergman's "Autumn Sonata".

Personal life
The personal life of Alexander Grigorievich was never in plain sight. Lyudmila is his only wife; the couple got married while still studying at the institute. When he met, the girl amazed him with her uncontrollable temperament and beauty. Sons were born into the family - Vyacheslav and Kirill.
The wife shared all the difficulties of life in America with her husband after their emigration. The children of Alexander Rapoport, like their father, were able to find their place in life. Vyacheslav received his education in Russia and abroad. He is currently working in America.
The youngest is married. He has his own business in the same country. The grandson of Alexander Grigorievich, who is named Alexander in his honor, is growing up in the family.
At 71 years old, Alexander Grigorievich Rapoport is full of vitality, is involved in films, on the radio and works with patients. In 2017 he starred in the film “Sleepers”, and in 2018 he was invited to a project in the USA, Brazil and Jordan - the drama Roads to Olympia. The same year he starred in the comedy “President’s Vacation” and the continuation of the series “Sleepers.”
When, on one of the television shows in America, Alexander Grigorievich was asked what he could say about happiness, having lived such an eventful life, he answered: “Happiness is when there are people nearby whom you cannot live without, when you have a hobby, I I don't even call it a job you can't live without. And when you have physical health, thanks to which you can live, work and enjoy life.”
