Actor Alexey Fomkin: the terrible death of Kolya from the film “Guest from the Future”

Today, hardly anyone among school youth will remember the name of this actor. But three decades ago, almost every teenager knew him. We can safely say that Alyosha Fomkin became famous and famous throughout the country thanks to one brilliantly played role. It was he who played the schoolboy Kolya Gerasimov in the adventure-fantasy film “Guest from the Future,” filmed by director Pavel Arsenov back in 1984. In fact, after this film Alyosha Fomkin was supposed to become a sought-after actor. But he was never able to succeed in this profession...

Childhood years

Alyosha Fomkin was born on August 30, 1966 in an ordinary family (place of birth - Moscow). He went to a regular school, and his interest in amateur performances awoke in early childhood. As a first-grader, Alyosha Fomkin attended theater clubs.

Alyosha Fomkin

Once he took part in a reading competition and won a prize in it. After some time, the “promising” boy was invited to screen tests for the film “Scarecrow,” which was directed by Rolan Bykov in 1983. But, despite the fact that they turned out to be unsuccessful for Alexey, fate still gave him a brilliant chance to start an acting career.

Biography

Alexey Leonidovich Fomkin was born in the capital of the USSR in 1969. His parents were not actors, but his mother Tatyana Nikiforovna was involved in a theater group at school age. Since childhood, the boy grew up kind and cheerful. In the first grades of secondary school No. 516, he studied very well; teachers recommended sending Alyosha to an artistic reading club. The young reader made great progress there, and his mother decided to take him to the children's theater studio at, and then to the creative group at the ZIL Palace of Culture, in which she herself studied at one time.

Alexey Fomkin in childhood

At the age of 13, Alyosha Fomkin performed at the capital's children's reading competition, for which he received a second-degree award. In the same year, the talented boy became part of a children's group that performed in front of the government of the Soviet Union on the victory day of the October Revolution.

In addition, Alexey Fomkin was invited to screen tests for the film “Scarecrow”. The boy did not get a role in the film, but his photos remained in the files of the Gorky Film Studio. After some time, a bell rang in the Fomkins’ apartment. Luck smiled on Alexey, he was invited to film in the episode of “Jumble”, which was called “Auction”.

"Jumble"

As has already been emphasized, the creative biography of Alyosha Fomkin is tragic, and in this sense it is similar to the biographies of many talented actors of the past. He had to go through fire, water, and copper pipes. However, copper pipes should be placed first on this list. Fame and fame turned the young man’s head overnight. And the humorous newsreel “Yeralash” served as a springboard for them. Although unsuccessful, the filming of “Scarecrow” was still noticed.

The release called “Auction”, where Fomkin skillfully sold his test work for a grade of “5”, became the first victory in cinema for the young actor. Already a well-known actor, Alexey will again star in “Yeralash” - the episode will be called “It’s Not Good to Peep.”

Alexey Fomkin

Who from the current generation is familiar with the name of this young actor? Almost no one. And for a schoolboy in the second half of the 1980s, this name spoke volumes. Maybe it’s not so much the artist’s surname as his film character Kolya Gerasimov from Pavel Arsenov’s cult TV movie Guest from the Future. This film became fateful for young Alyosha Fomkin. Fame and glory came to him, which opened the way to difficult trials and a tragic ending.

Alexey Fomkin was born into an ordinary Moscow family, in no way connected with the theater. But already from the first grade he began studying in theater studios. Soon he took second place in the capital's recitation competition and even went on stage in front of members of the Politburo, where he read poetry and slogans with other guys. And after a while, Alyosha was invited by one of R. Bykov’s assistants to a screen test for the film Scarecrow. Fomkin did not get the role, but his photos remained in the Mosfilm archive. Probably someone noticed these pictures, because Alyosha quickly received an offer to star in one of the issues of Yeralash. The first funny story in which he played was called the Auction (who remembers, in which the young actor sold his math test paper for grades, and finally sold it to the minister for an A). Many TV viewers remember Alexey Fomkin’s roles in this film magazine; in total, he starred in six jumbled stories. And during this period he played in the most important film of his life, Guest from the Future. Almost all the children of the big country followed the brave struggle of Kolya Gerasimov and Alisa Selezneva with the space pirates who were trying to take possession of the miracle - the invention of the myelophone. The film was a resounding success, and part of this success was, undoubtedly, the performance of Alyosha Fomkin. But this was essentially the end of his film career.

Afterwards, more films with the participation of Alexei Fomkin were released - Occasion and On Our Own Land, but they were not successful. And then came timelessness. Rumor has it that it was then that the young actor became addicted to drugs. There were no invitations; obviously, the matured Alexey did not suit the directors for some reason. After serving in the army, he got a job at the Moscow Art Theater, but didn’t stay there long either. After working a little as a painter, he left Moscow and went to the Vladimir region, where he settled in an empty village house. There Alexey started a family, moved to Vladimir, and seemed to have given up drugs. Life has gotten a little better.

It all happened during the celebration of February 23, 1996. Already at night, a fire suddenly broke out. Everyone who was in the apartment left it. Except for Alexei, who was already asleep and suffocated by carbon monoxide.

Alexei’s grave was searched for a long time by his fans, who united on a memorial website. When they found her, there was only a rusty monument there. Today, at the entrance to the cemetery there is a sign, and on the well-kept grave there are always flowers and the sound of the song The Beautiful is Far Away.

Alexey Fomkin has brown eyes, naturally light brown hair, fair skin and medium lips. The face shape is triangular, the forehead is medium, the hair is straight and soft. Alexey Fomkin changed his hair color, preferring light. The actor has a medium snub nose and a rounded chin.

"Guest from the Future"

And after participating in a humorous film magazine, Fomkin’s finest hour will strike. Director Pavel Arsenov, having watched the episode of “Jumble,” in which the talented boy starred, will offer him one of the main roles in the fantasy “Guest from the Future.” Well, who would refuse such an offer? And painstaking work began on the set, which lasted almost three years. Most of the episodes were filmed in Moscow, although we also had to go to Gagra. In general, Alexey had little time to rest; in between filming “Guest from the Future,” he managed to work in “Jumble.” The film about the girl Alice was a huge success among young viewers. A large army of fans of the film flooded them with letters from the director. Natasha Guseva (performer of the role of Alice) and Alyosha Fomkin (performer of the role of Kolya Gerasimov) became famous throughout the country. It seemed that success in the acting profession was already guaranteed for them.

But the paradox is that neither Natasha nor Alyosha achieved great heights in the field of acting. Yes, Fomkin will also act in films, but his role in the film “The Occasion” will be of secondary importance, and it will go unnoticed by the viewer.

the main role

Work in a humorous film almanac brought Fomkin the necessary fame; the boy was noticed by director Pavel Arsenov, who at that time was looking for an actor to play the main role in his new film “Guest from the Future.” The director made the right decision: the character of Kolya Gerasimov turned out to be so bright that in terms of popularity he competed with the heroine Alisa Seleznyova.

Alexey Fomkin in the film “Guest from the Future”

In addition to filming the cult children's film, Alexey continued to star in Yeralash. As a result, a total of 5 more issues of the satirical magazine were published with his participation: “A fairy tale is a lie, but there is a hint in it...”, “Miracles in a sieve”, “Field dandelion”, “It’s not good to spy” and “Let’s give each other compliments” .

After the resounding success in “Guest from the Future,” Alexey Fomkin becomes a welcome guest in programs for children. He often gives interviews for television and newspapers, including Pionerskaya Pravda. Subsequently, the boy had two more works, but now of an episodic nature, in the film “Occasion”, and after graduating from school - in the drama “On My Own Land”, where he played a negative character.

What's next?

In 1986, the aspiring actor will graduate from the school. It’s not hard to guess that because of his work in cinema, Alyosha Fomkin, whose photo every second teenager knew, devoted practically no time to studying. As a result, he received a certificate in which it was written in black and white that he had “attended” 10 classes.

After some time, the young man will be invited to participate in the filming of the film “On My Own Land” (1987). Alexey will respond to the proposal of director Igor Apasyan. But again he gets a secondary role. And again the viewer leaves her without much attention.

short biography

Alexey Leonidovich Fomkin was born on August 30, 1969. His life, which began quite successfully, could have continued now if not for the tragic incident.

Schooling

The boy lived on the working-class outskirts of Moscow (at that time), on Trofimova Street, passing through the Yuzhnoportovy and Danilovsky districts of the city. He studied at school No. 516, located on Odesskaya Street. Almost from the 1st grade, I looked at the world with the eyes of a dreamer, whose eyes followed what was happening outside the window more than in the classroom. This was the reason that very quickly Alyosha “migrated to Kamchatka” - the last desk from the teacher.

This attitude towards studies and regular absence from school due to frequent filming became the reason that Alexey graduated from 10th grade with a certificate instead of a certificate. It contained a note that the student “listened to the school program.”

Filming in "Jumble" and films

Despite the fact that Alyosha studied at the ZIL Theater Studio, it was not thanks to this that he first appeared on television. From early childhood, he discovered a talent for poetry, he recited poetry expressively, and sometimes composed something of his own.

One day, the young poet was taken to a gala event dedicated to the anniversary of the October Revolution. After Brezhnev's speech, the pioneers read patriotic poems. Among them was 13-year-old Alyosha Fomkin. The broadcast of November 1, 1982 was the guy’s first appearance on central television.

The General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee died 3 days later, and the capable boy was invited to audition for the film “Scarecrow”. Although someone else was approved for the role, the remaining personal data went to Boris Grachevsky. This is how the creative biography of Alexei Fomkin began.

During his school years, he managed to star in six episodes of “Jumble” and three feature films:

  • “Guest from the Future” (1984) - Kolya Gerasimov;
  • “Reason” (1986) - Misha;
  • “On my own land” (1987) - Borka.

One of the witnesses to the selection of Fomkin for the role in “Guest from the Future” said that the management of the film crew came to the House of Culture at the time of preparation of an amateur production of “The Snow Queen”. They asked the guys to form a line and, looking around, pointed to Lyokha, saying: “This one will suit us!”

The script for the drama film “Plumbum, or a Dangerous Game” was written in his image, but suddenly Alyosha was hospitalized, as a result of which Anton Androsov was invited to play his role.

When he recovered, the guy expected a filming offer, but never received an invitation. Having reached the age of 18, he goes into the army.

Military service

The lack of a school certificate and outstanding physical abilities did not allow Alexei to join the elite troops. After distribution, he is sent to a construction battalion.

Army life is no different from school life. The guy does not stand out from the crowd, he behaves simply, both with the colleagues with whom he is shown in the photo, and with the command staff. However, this does not protect him from several hits on the “lip”.

Future life

Having returned from the Army, he enters the Gorky Moscow Art Theater, it may seem that now professional training will begin, there will be roles. But during the first courses he understands that just as he was not “adapted” to the educational process at school, he is not suitable now. As a result, after 3 months he is expelled from the educational institution due to frequent absenteeism.

He works as a painter for some time, but he understands that something needs to change. He quits his job and moves to the village of Bezvodnoye in the Vladimir region. When he was little, his parents often brought him here to visit his grandmother for the summer. The old woman moved to the city, so Alexei moves into her empty house, works as a miller, and plans to start a farm.

During periodic trips to Vladimir, he meets his future wife, Elena. Despite the fact that the girl has a small son, he marries her, moves to her in Vladimir and accepts the child as his own.

Alexei Fomkin’s life had everything: fame, acting recognition from serious people. The turning point in his life was the period of creative stagnation in the Soviet Union, which occurred in the late 80s and early 90s. At this time, not just an inexperienced boy, famous people broke down. Abuse of Royal alcohol and reassessment of the meaning of life changed the fate of many.

Alexey Fomkin overcame all these obstacles on his own. And if it were not for the ill-fated fire that occurred on the night of February 23-24, 1996, who knows how his future creative and personal life would have developed. And so, he will forever remain in the memory of student 6 “B” of the 20th Moscow school, Kolya Gerasimov.

Creative crisis

After filming with Apasyan, the directors were in no hurry to provide work for the young actor. Alexey fell into depression: he could not accept that he had become useless to anyone on the set. But he managed to gather his will into a fist and distract himself from gloomy thoughts. Fomkin decides to join the ranks of the Soviet army. He is sent to Irkutsk Angarsk. But even there, experiencing all the hardships of army service, he does not stop doing amateur artistic activities.

After demobilization, Alexey will come to get a job at the Gorky Moscow Art Theater. He was accepted into the troupe, but the young man often ignored the rules of labor discipline. A few months later, Fomkin was fired from the theater for systematic absenteeism.

Still from the film “Mishka, Seryoga and Me”

Alexey Leonidovich Fomkin studied at Moscow school No. 516. From the first grade he studied at the Children's Puppet Theater at, and from the third grade he studied at the Theater Studio of the ZIL House of Culture. Alyosha was brought here by his mother, Tatyana Nikiforovna, who herself studied in this same studio as a child.

(An interesting fact: as a child, Alexei’s mother herself starred in a cameo role in the film “Mishka, Seryoga and Me”, uncredited).

According to the directors, even in those years it was clear that Alexey was a talented child, and in the future it would be nice for him to try himself in the acting profession. Fate itself came to meet Alyosha halfway: subsequently he could no longer live a day without a movie. In the fifth grade, Alexey won the Moscow citywide reading competition and took second place. Alexey studied well, but until he began to disappear on the set.

At a reading competition, he was noticed by the assistant director of the feature film “Scarecrow”. You, of course, remember what film we are talking about. Alyosha was invited to a screen test. It would seem that in a little more time the childhood dream would come true... But it so happened that Alyosha did not pass. Another boy was invited instead. And at the film studio. Gorky (screen tests took place there), photographs of Alexey remained in the actor’s database. Several months passed, and suddenly Alyosha received a call from the children's humorous film magazine "Yeralash". His first “Jumble” was “Auction”.

(According to other information, Alexey was selected for Yeralash in the very theater studio that he attended).

In “Jumble” he was noticed by Pavel Arsenov, director of the feature film “Guest from the Future”, and invited him to a screen test. So Alyosha got the role of the main character Kolya Gerasimov. In parallel with the filming of this epoch-making film, Alexey continued to act in Ealashevo short films. He worked very hard and diligently. After finishing filming “Guest from the Future,” he was invited to the Odessa film studio to participate in the television film “Occasion.” True, this role was only of secondary importance.

In 1986, Alexey graduated from school. But it so happened that due to constant filming, he did not receive a certificate: he graduated from ten classes with a certificate of “passed.” Soon, Alyosha received an offer from the Odessa Film Studio to star in one of the main roles in the feature film “On My Own Land.”

After this filming, no filming offers were received for six long months in a row. Alexey was very worried. And he couldn’t believe that he wasn’t invited anywhere. Then I decided - finally and irrevocably! - go to the army. I went to the military registration and enlistment office and literally a few days later I was already on my way to overcome the hardships and deprivations of military service... to far-off Angarsk. In the army he was involved in amateur performances. According to the law of meanness, almost immediately after leaving, Alyosha began receiving offers from directors, but that was the end of his film career...

After the army, Alexey came to work at the Moscow Art Theater named after. Gorky." I went to work every other time and three months later was fired for systematic absenteeism. But life didn't end there. Alexey went to work at a construction site as a painter, but he couldn’t work there for long either and quit.

(There is information that around these years Alexey also managed to work as a lighting technician at the Gorky film studio).

Problems with drugs began. After some time, Alexey decided to give up absolutely everything. At that moment, he probably wanted to distance himself even from himself and think about the meaning of life.

Alyosha went to the Vladimir region, to the small village of Bezvodnoye, with only thirty houses, where he spent every summer of his childhood. An old grandmother lived in Moscow. Lyosha settled in an empty house alone. In winter, the village literally dies out, and almost no one lives there. To get to the store you need to walk through a field to another village. The places are very beautiful... So the summer passed. Alexey decided to postpone leaving for the capital and stay in the village. Soon he got a job. Became a miller. Life seemed to be slowly getting better. Of course, he had friends in Bezvodny, but they were all Vladimir summer residents.

At some party in Vladimir, Alyosha met his future wife Lena. Then he got married and moved from Bezvodny to Vladimir. He began to live with his wife. Three years have passed. All this time Alexey did not leave this city. There have been no offers to act in films for a long time. And Lyosha himself tried not to remind anyone of himself. I became seriously interested in mysticism and esotericism. He wrote some good poetry.

On February 22, 1996, friends invited Alexey and his wife to visit them to celebrate the Day of the Soviet Army and Navy. On the night of February 23-24, the apartment suddenly caught fire. Everyone managed to escape. Lyosha was sleeping at that time, so he could not leave the apartment and suffocated.

Alexey Leonidovich Fomkin is buried near Vladimir, at the Ulybyshevo cemetery.

Here you can find out how to find his grave.

Tragedy

One day, friends invited Alexey to a party in Vladimir, where he met a girl, Elena. After some time, the actor moves to the regional center and marries Lena. The newlyweds began to live in the wife’s apartment.

In 1996, on the eve of Soviet Army Day, Alexei and his wife were invited by friends to celebrate such an important event. At night there was a sudden fire. Everyone was able to escape, but not Alyosha Fomkin. The cause of death was carbon monoxide poisoning. When the apartment was burning, he was sleeping peacefully. Such is the fate of Alyosha Fomkin.

Death during a fire

After his marriage, Alexei Fomkin’s life began to improve. He stopped drinking, became interested in mysticism, and began to engage in creativity and write poetry. Maybe my acting career could have continued if not for the fire.

He and his wife were invited to visit by friends. The occasion was February 23. Alexey honestly gave his 2 years of life to military service. The fun continued until late at night, as a result of which they did not go home, but stayed overnight at a party.

At night, the apartment caught fire, and everyone there was able to run out into the street. Fomkin was sleeping so soundly that they could not wake him up, and perhaps they forgot about him in a panic. The firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire, but the guy was already dead; in his sleep he had suffocated with smoke. At the time of his death he was only 26 years old.

Why did the fate of Alyosha Fomkin, the young star of the film “Guest from the Future”, turn out this way?

In “Beautiful Far Away,” the actor who played Kolya had to fight drugs, work as a miller and unsuccessfully dream of new filming

Alexey Fomkin - this name doesn’t mean much to today’s youth. But in the mid and late 80s there was not a single schoolchild in our country who did not rush to the television screen at the sound of the song “Beautiful Far Away” - after all, this meant that the five-part adventure film “Guest from the Future” was beginning. In this film, Fomkin played the second most important role - the Moscow schoolboy Kolya , who found himself in the future and met a girl Alice . After the release of “The Guest...” on screens in 1984, Fomkin, like the entire “team” of young actors, became a real star. All the facts were for Alexey to become a famous and sought-after actor. Did not work out…

Childhood in a theater group

Muscovite Alyosha Fomkin, when he became a schoolboy, enjoyed participating in theater clubs. Classmates recall that during lessons he often recited poems or stories by heart - and did it in an interesting, very natural and artistic way.

The road to cinema was natural, although bumpy. At first, the boy was filmed in screen tests for the film “Scarecrow”. He was not given the role, but his details remained at the Gorky Film Studio. Thanks to this, Fomkin soon received an invitation to star in Yeralash, a humorous children's film magazine.

Following the release of “Jumble,” which was called “Auction,” filming followed in other series, and everywhere the young actor coped with his roles brilliantly.

"Guest from the Future"

Successful roles in Yeralash became a real springboard for Alyosha. He was seen on the screen by experienced film director Pavel Arsenov , who was just selecting talented children for the filming of a new science fiction film based on the story “One Hundred Years Ahead” Kir Bulychev Such offers, of course, are not refused, and Alyosha plunged headlong into film life.

Most of the scenes were filmed in Moscow, but for some time the actors and the entire film crew had to leave the capital and go to Gagra.

By the way: As one of Alyosha’s classmates recalls, “Foma” (Fomkin’s school nickname) starred in “Guest from the Future” in the same uniform in which he went to school, and with his own “diplomat”. But they gave him branded sneakers on the set and told him to walk and run in them as much as possible so that they wouldn’t look new.

Filming lasted almost three years. The work was difficult and serious. At the same time, Fomkin continued to star in new episodes of Yeralash.

Still from the film “Guest from the Future”

By the way: While studying in the eighth grade, Alyosha Fomkin smoked quite a lot. He had to regret this during the filming of scenes in which his Kolya was running away from space pirates. “How is it that Innocent is so fat, but runs better than me?” — the young smoker was perplexed.

“Don’t come to prom!”

Meanwhile, school was almost abandoned. The boy simply had no time for classes - he was completely captivated by the shooting. Alyosha’s classmates remember: respectable “uncles” often came to pick him up and take him straight from class, finally sternly shaking their finger at the teacher: “Make sure that they give him decent grades - no less than a four!” Some gave it reluctantly, while others did not want to inflate the grades of an almost always absent student. As a result, instead of a certificate, like everyone else, he was given a certificate with the wording “Course completed.” Of course, without a full-fledged certificate, the road to the university was closed. And the guy really wanted to go to the Cinematography Institute...

According to the recollections of one of his classmates, the leadership of the school where Alexey studied forbade the young man to come to the prom, citing the fact that he only received a certificate. And this despite the fact that others - the same classmate who told about this - generally left after the eighth grade for vocational school, but were present at the graduation. What was it – accumulated complaints against the “negligent” student? Envy? Using power?

Few people know that the capable young man starred in several more, though not so noticeable, roles: in the films “The Occasion” and “On My Own Land.” Almost no one noticed them.

Creative throwing

Realizing that the road to the university was closed, and not receiving new offers from directors, Fomkin went to the military registration and enlistment office and decided to serve in the army. And after demobilization he was accepted into the Moscow Art Theater troupe. Gorky . Despite his obvious talent, no one tolerated Fomkin’s absenteeism and episodes of drunkenness for long. They say that it was during that period that he became friends with drugs... After his dismissal, work as a painter followed. It seemed that life was sliding down an inclined plane and nothing good would ever happen again.

When Alexey realized what this lifestyle meant for him, he found the strength to change everything at once. In a tiny village in the Vladimir region, he began to come to his senses. He once spent his summer holidays here with his grandmother. Now Alexei lived here alone, in an old house without amenities, and went to buy groceries at a store located in a neighboring village. And then he began to work at the mill.

A modest, quiet life seemed to do its job. The young man gradually recovered from all the shocks that fate had prepared for him. I even met a girl - I met Lena in Vladimir, where I traveled from time to time. The young people got married, Alexey moved in with his wife. It seemed that everything would be fine now.

Still from the film “On My Own Ground”

The tragic incident occurred on a holiday - Soviet Army Day, February 23. Alexey and Lena celebrated it with friends. Perhaps they had too much alcohol. In any case, when the fire started, everyone managed to jump out of the apartment except Fomkin, who was fast asleep on a smoldering mattress. It was not possible to resuscitate the young man. He was not even 27 years old.
