Natalya Bondarchuk: We were all his favorite children

The biography and personal life of Natalya Bondarchuk is remarkable in that from childhood the baby knew exactly who her parents were. Mom is Lyubka Shevtsova, whom the Nazis did not dare to kill, but only wounded. She stayed in the hospital, healed her wounds, came to Moscow, changed her last name to Makarov, entered VGIK, became an artist, married the hero Valko (Sergei Bondarchuk), who beat the enemy, and gave birth to a daughter, Natasha. Both mom and dad turned out to be heroes.

Therefore, to the age-old question from adults, what do you want to become, the girl answered - a hero. She truly became a heroine, starring as the mysterious Hari in Andrei Tarkovsky's film Solaris.

Biography of Natalia Bondarchuk

In life, Natalya Sergeevna is not at all like her long-suffering, confused heroine from the film “Solaris”, who looks like a ghost. She stands firmly on her own two feet, knows how to lead people, directs, writes books, stages plays in her Bambi theater, thus multiplying her creative treasury.

Natalya Bondarchuk was born in 1950 into a famous acting family. And this became the subject of jokes: they said that the girl was born not in a shirt, but in a film. Father is the famous director and actor Sergei Bondarchuk, and mother is no less famous and beloved actress Inna Makarova, who turned 91 this year.

The biography of Natalya Bondarchuk is also noteworthy for many because she was born in the family of two People's Artists of the USSR. Although they received this honorary title years later, they were nevertheless quite recognizable and popular actors of the middle of the last century. Having starred in the film “Young Guard,” Sergei Bondarchuk and Inna Makarova received a one-room apartment on Novaya Peschanaya Street and immediately sent Inna Vladimirovna’s mother, Anna Ivanovna German, there, instructing her to take care of raising her granddaughter, and nanny Nyura.

Guests often gathered in the small apartment - Nikolai Rybnikov, Alla Larionova, Klara Luchko, and the one-room dwelling seemed huge to the girl. At that time, little Natasha had no idea who these uncles and aunts were who threw her up to the ceiling and sometimes caught her (Natalya Sergeevna’s joke).

Natalya Bondarchuk made her film debut in 1970 in the film “By the Lake”, then starred in the films “A Soldier Came from the Front”, “You and Me”. Her greatest success came after playing the role of Hari in Andrei Tarkovsky's film Solaris. Natalya Bondarchuk made her debut as a director and screenwriter in 1975 with the short story “Happy Matryonka” in the anthology “Poshekhonskaya Antiquity”. The most famous were two films directed by N. Bondarchuk in the late 1980s from his own scripts - “Bambi’s Childhood” and “Bambi’s Youth”.

She organized her own children's theater "Bambi". As of 2014, there are three branches of the theater in Moscow, Aprelevka and Odintsovo. The Aprelevsky branch is managed by her husband. The theater goes on tour throughout Russia and neighboring countries.

Father

Natalya Bondarchuk was eight years old when her father left the family. Years later, the actress shared her memories, saying that she felt torment, considering herself guilty of her father’s departure. Five years after that, Sergei Bondarchuk could not see his daughter. Inna Makarova was categorically against their relationship.

According to Natalya Bondarchuk, the biography and personal life of children who suffered such a blow of fate takes on a tragic connotation. They suffer from this complex all their lives, although they say that time heals.

At school, many people envied Natalya and were burning with curiosity, wanting to see how her role model, the main character of her favorite movies, lived. However, Natalya Bondarchuk, whose biography changed dramatically after her father left, had nothing to answer the curious. She herself saw her father only in the movies.

The second discovery of her father took place only after the girl entered VGIK.

Student years

From the age of twelve, Natalya Bondarchuk “fell ill” with the theater. After graduating from school, I submitted documents to VGIK and entered Sergei Gerasimov’s course. It was a “star” course, which was called the course of four Natashas. As it turned out, Natalya Belokhvostikova, Natalya Gvozdikova and Natalya Arinbasarova studied with her. All Natashas turned out to be popular actresses in Soviet cinema. Among the guys were: Nikolai Eremenko, Talgat Nigmatulin, Vadim Spiridonov, who, unfortunately, did not live to this day.

One day, having decided to come in for a few minutes to watch his daughter’s graduation performance, Sergei Bondarchuk stayed until the end. Afterwards, coming up and hugging his daughter, he talked to her for a long time, remembering the past and making predictions about the future. It's time for father and daughter to bond.

In character, Natalya Sergeevna is more like her father than her mother. Just as dynamic, open, thoughtful. She prefers directing, so without thinking twice, Natalya Sergeevna also completed directing courses. And at the age of seventeen she was offered a small role in the film “By the Lake.” The first experience was unsuccessful, but two years later Natalya Bondarchuk began to be recognized not only in the USSR, but also abroad.

Natalya Bondarchuk: We were all his favorite children

After an interview with actress Inna MAKAROVA “The Fatal Mistake of Sergei Bondarchuk,” the daughter of the brilliant director, a wonderful actress and wonderful director Natalya BONDARCHUK, responded. Here is her letter.

— I really love my mother, Inna Vladimirovna Makarova, and my father, Sergei Fedorovich Bondarchuk. But I also love my brother Fyodor Bondarchuk and the recently deceased Alena Bondarchuk. And it was very painful for me to read the phrase in the newspaper: “Bondarchuk’s fatal mistake.” Mom - even more so. She shared her memories, her long-standing pain, and they made some kind of sensation out of it. I would like to express my view on these dramatic events.

As a child, after my parents separated, I didn’t see my dad for five years. Just recently I learned from my mother that he did come to us more than once, but I was at school at the time. I was not informed then that my father was coming. But in vain! There would be fewer of my childhood grievances against my father.

My parents lived ten years and gave birth to me. Irina Konstantinovna Skobtseva lived with Sergei Fedorovich for 38 years. The father loved all the children very much, and was especially attached to Alena. She was sick as a child, and he did everything to help her. Now their graves are together - father and daughter.

I have always tried and am trying to unite broken threads. As I grew older, I began to communicate more with my father. He came to VGIK to see the play “Red and Black”. Seeing me in the role of Madame Renal, dad cried. He understood how difficult my fate would be in art, where there is envy and intrigue. Dad was one of the first to watch the film “Solaris” by Tarkovsky, where I played the main role. I remember his words, spoken with particular concern for me: “What are you going to play now?” After all, my father knew that there were few such roles in cinema.

Shared pain and pride

I visited Irina Konstantinovna and Sergei Fedorovich’s house several times and saw little Alena and Fedya. Gradually the old pain began to go away. In my first directorial work, “Living Rainbow,” I directed Alena Bondarchuk. We became very good friends then. She looked like dad, I also went into the Bondarchuk breed. Besides, we both starred in this film. One editor of the Gorky Film Studio, after watching the film, decided that both roles - the teacher and the mother of the main character - were played by me. And I was very surprised to learn that it was Alena.

One day my mother saw her sister’s photo tests. “You turned out well,” oh. - “My God, how similar you are...” At one of the film premieres, my mother, who also starred in “The Living Rainbow,” met Alena. She came up to her and kissed her, feeling something familiar. When Alena passed away, my mother cried. The saddest moments in our family's life have always been unifying. I learned about my father’s death from Alena; she called me in Kyiv, where I was then, and, sobbing, reported what had happened. All his children came to his father's funeral. Alyosha Bondarchuk, Sergei Fedorovich’s son from his first marriage, also arrived.

Irina Konstantinovna took the passing of Sergei Fedorovich very hard. The family did everything to save him. But cancer is relentless. He took away first his father, then his half-sister. I saw Fyodor and Irina Konstantinovna in the church where Alena’s funeral service was held. She kissed Fyodor, he whispered: “Mom asked about you, come to her.” Irina Konstantinovna, heartbroken, sat on a small stool opposite the coffin. I walked up, leaned over, and kissed her. But it’s unlikely that she saw anyone... She loved her father very much. And her daughter was her life.

After the death of Sergei Fedorovich, Irina Konstantinovna wrote a book of memories about him and organized a film festival bearing his name. Documentary films have been created with her participation...

Nikolai Petrovich Burlyaev, president of the Golden Knight film festival, established an award named after Sergei Bondarchuk, which was to be presented by family members. Once Irina Konstantinovna and I presented it. Before the ceremony began, photographs of deceased filmmakers appeared on the screen—among them was the father. At this time, music was played written by my son, the grandson of Sergei Fedorovich, Ivan Burlyaev. The requiem deeply touched Irina Konstantinovna. Tears were streaming down her face.

It seems to me that in the anniversary year of Sergei Fedorovich, and he turns 90 on September 25, we need to forget all internal grievances, worthily and beautifully celebrate the anniversary of a man who devoted himself completely to serving cinema and culture. And he loved us, his children, very, very much, I know that.

"Solaris"

The finest hour of Natalya Bondarchuk, whose biography is intertwined with happy, trembling and at the same time sad moments, struck when she starred with the famous director Andrei Tarkovsky. It’s probably not worth introducing Tarkovsky, whose name can be safely placed among the directors who have reached the world’s pinnacle.

At first, he did not want to take a nineteen-year-old girl for a serious, dramatic role. But after several screen tests conducted with other actresses, Andrei Tarkovsky came to the conclusion that no one coped with the role better than Natalya Bondarchuk (apparently, the Bondarchuk breed had an effect).

The success of the film was stunning. Together with the film crew, Natalya Bondarchuk traveled half the world. In the West, she met Hollywood and European famous actors and directors who applauded her. This turned the young actress’s head. After “Solaris,” offers to act in films kept pouring in, but the girl was fervently convinced that once she had set a high standard, she needed to stick to it. She was meticulous about her roles, so the actress’s track record does not include a huge number of films, but she does have the role of Maria Volkonskaya in the film “Star of Captivating Happiness,” which she loves very much. There is Princess Sophia in the films “The Youth of Peter” and in “The Beginning of Glorious Deeds.”

Many people remember Madame de Renal played by Natalia Bondarchuk in the film adaptation of Stendhal’s novel “The Red and the Black.” It seems that the biography of Natalya Bondarchuk (there is a photo in the article), related to the world of cinema, is more connected with the nineteenth and eighteenth centuries.

Natalya Bondarchuk made her film debut in 1970, in the film “By the Lake”, then starred in the films “A Soldier Came from the Front”, “You and Me”. The actress’s dramatic talent was most clearly demonstrated in the role of Hari in Andrei Tarkovsky’s philosophical and fantastic film “Solaris” (1972).

After the success of Solaris, there were up to 40 offers a month to act in films, but Natalya Sergeevna was in no hurry to accept them, she did not want to devalue her image. Over the following years, only about a dozen roles were played, but none of them were passable: Maria Volkonskaya in Vladimir Motyl’s drama “The Star of Captivating Happiness”, Madame de Renal in the television adaptation of “Red and Black”, Princess Sophia in the historical duology “The Youth of Peter” " and "At the beginning of glorious deeds", staged by Sergei Gerasimov.

There were many letters about the role of Sophia - why did Bondarchuk agree to star in such a role as a “bloodthirsty butcher”? But she understood this heroine differently. For her, Sophia is the forerunner of Catherine, the first emancipated woman.

Director

Natalya Bondarchuk made her debut as a director and screenwriter in 1975 with the short story “The Unhappy Matryonka” in the anthology “Poshekhonskaya Antiquity” based on the novel by Saltykov-Shchedrin - it was a diploma, they did it together with Nikolai Burlyaev and Igor Khutsiev. Then there was Pushkin’s “The Bronze Horseman” with Sergei Apollinaryevich Gerasimov, who starred in her leading role as a teacher to a student. The next film is “Living Rainbow” based on the novel by Nosov.

The most famous were two films directed by N. Bondarchuk in the late 80s based on scripts co-written with the writer Yuri Nagibin - “Bambi’s Childhood” and “Bambi’s Youth”. Natalya Sergeevna's closest relatives starred in the film: son Vanya Burlyaev, mother Irina Makarova, husband Nikolai Burlyaev and, finally, Natalya Bondarchuk herself. This whole warm family company is successfully diluted by Maris Liepa and Lev Durov. The dilogy about Bambi was awarded a large number of awards - more than fifteen. These films were watched by 9 million children in the first months.

N. Bondarchuk: “Everyone told me: “What an amazingly beautiful shot!” And we were watching this! ... We arrived on the set before dawn, and the most beautiful shots were shot just at dawn, when there is no sun yet, but there are already clouds, there is enough light.”

The children loved this film so much that they began to unite around Natalya Sergeevna, and this is how the Moscow Children's Theater “Bambi” arose, of which she is now the director.

Roerich's influence

In 1992, Natalya Sergeevea directed “Ask, and it will be done for you,” an Orthodox film based on Leskov’s novel “The Beast.” It became difficult to film further, because this was the beginning of the collapse of domestic cinema. From that time on, Natalya Sergeevna began making documentaries dedicated to the family of Nicholas Roerich, whose worldview she accepted by the age of 30.

The name of Roerich is associated with the Trans-Himalayan Expedition, so it covered part of this route. It ran along the Belukha River, which is in the Altai Mountains, very inaccessible. “We rode horses for half a month,” says Natalya Sergeevna. — There were a lot of unusual things there. In general, Altai is our protected sacred zone, which should be treated specially. This is a direct connection between the earth and space, so it’s better not to just walk there with your nose in the air. This is the zone about which Tarkovsky shot his film. And there is another zone - the Himalayas, and I visited there too.” This is how television documentaries about the Roerichs and the Himalayas appeared.

In 1999, Natalya Bondarchuk completed the film “One Love of My Soul,” which tells about the destinies of Alexander Pushkin and Maria Volkonskaya.

N. Bondarchuk: “When writing the script, I had to rummage through more than two thousand books. For example, in the memoirs of contemporaries they looked for references to phrases characteristic of Pushkin. I’m so immersed in the material that sometimes I feel like I’m living in the 19th century.”

She considers this film not an accident in her creative biography. “I want to create Pushkin, whom the people love,” says Natalya Sergeevna. — I want to create an artistic image of Pushkin, and a young one, when he was in love, very bright. This is not a biographical Pushkin, this is Pushkin the legend. Why? Because the film is structured as the memories of Maria Nikolaevna Volkonskaya about Pushkin. This is the image that remains in her memory. You can give Pushkin the demon, or you can give Pushkin the genius. The artistic image is closer to me, so I will shoot a romanticized image of Pushkin, I will have him with a fluttering cloak, he will look after women, but sweet and wonderful and very aesthetically pleasing, not the way the events from the bathhouse would now be conveyed. It will not happen".

Personal life

Although Natalya Sergeevna was born in Moscow, she does not like cities and prefers to live in the country. She doesn't like to drive, but she has traveled to 42 countries, including Norway and New Zealand entirely by car. He doesn’t like computers, but he can sit for days in his own editing room, which he “plays like a piano.” Despite her dislike for technology, she used the most advanced technologies when filming and editing the film “One Love of My Soul.” It was not easy to master editing, but after crossing this line, I felt that she had “grown wings”!

Natalya Sergeevna is married to actor and director Nikolai Petrovich Burlyaev (born 1946). He was an artist of the Academic Theater. Mossovet, theater named after. Lenin Komsomol, Gorky Film Studio; starred in the films: “Ivan’s Childhood”, “Andrei Rublev”, “The Player”, “Field Romance”, etc.; directed the films “Lermontov”, “Vanka-Cain” and others. Gen. director of the cinema center.

Burlyaev's son Ivan (born 1976) is a student at the Moscow State Conservatory. P.I. Tchaikovsky.

I express my admiration for the work of Natalia Bondarchuk. It seems to me that she is very similar to Helena Roerich, whom I idolize. I would like to establish correspondence with Natalia and ask her a few questions about the Roerichs. Please help me with this.

Personal life of the actress

Success on the screen was accompanied by tragedy in the actress’s personal life. Love flared between the famous director and the inexperienced actress. Life circumstances did not allow Andrei Tarkovsky to part with his wife, and Natalya herself was married.

Out of despair, she even tried to cut her wrists. After this, the biography of Natalya Bondarchuk, whose family consisted of her mother (she had divorced her first husband by this time), changed dramatically. She became a believer. Having received holy baptism, the actress calmed down, it became much easier for her to endure all the hardships of life, and at the same time Natalya Sergeevna met with her second husband, actor Nikolai Burlyaev.

The leading lady in the film “Solaris” fell in love with Nikolai Burlyaev. Nikolai Burlyaev immediately felt that Natalya Bondarchuk would be his wife. Having met on the set, they fell in love with each other and eventually cemented a relationship for seventeen years. The marriage produced two children - Ivan and Maria. And although years later the actors separated, this did not stop them from maintaining friendly relations. Being a director, Natalya Bondarchuk in her films films not only Nikolai Burlyaev, but also his second wife.

Natalya Bondarchuk opened her veins because of unrequited love

Natalya Bondrachuk, according to her admission, made many mistakes in her youth, for which she paid too high a price. While filming the legendary film Solaris, the young actress met the already famous director Andrei Tarkovsky. She fell in love with him at first sight, despite the fact that he was in an official relationship. And Natalya, in turn, by the age of nineteen had already managed to marry a cameraman. The artist spoke briefly about her first husband; according to her recollections, he was a wonderful, caring man who was incredibly jealous of her. However, the presence of a stamp in the passport did not stop the girl’s passion. Natalya and Andrei Arsenievich began dating, hiding the affair even from their colleagues. Soon Bondarchuk realized that her feelings for Tarkovsky were taking precedence over her reason.

“It so happened that he confessed his love to me. That's it... The recognition I've been waiting for for so long. What should I have done? Go to your husband? It was impossible for me. I cut my veins without realizing anything. I had a borderline state, when a person has a lot of pressure on him, this can happen. Moreover, I constantly played the suicides of my heroines in films,” admitted Natalya Sergeevna.

The actress decided to take the fatal step at a friends house. Friends of the artist called an ambulance, and doctors took Bondarchuk to the hospital. “They escorted me there at night... But they hid it from everyone for a long time. Tarkovsky saw what I did, he was there. In Soviet times, as today, suicide was not considered the norm,” the artist shared.

Natalya Sergeevna admitted that she understood: her beloved would never part with his wife. Moreover, the director had other women. “He wouldn’t have married me, he had so many hobbies. I am not the only passion. Tarkovsky destroyed my marriage. I am one of those women who cannot enter into a dual relationship,” noted Natalya Sergeevna. Soon Bondarchuk divorced her first husband and met theater and film artist Nikolai Petrovich Burlyaev. The actor courted the star for a long time, realizing that she was still in love with Tarkovsky.

“In Italy I broke up with Tarkovsky completely. He came to my room, knelt down, and I told him: “You know, now mom will come.” And he slammed the door, because he was madly afraid of his mother. At that time I was already with Kolya. He very carefully brought me out of my state of despair. Thanks to Kolya, I survived,” the actress recalled.

In her marriage to Burlyaev, Bondarchuk had two children - son Ivan and daughter Maria. However, the couple broke up, the actor met another woman. Despite the betrayal, Natalya Sergeevna noted that Nikolai Petrovich has always been and remains a wonderful father who supports his heirs in everything.

Today Bondarchuk is married for the third time to director and actor Igor Dnestriansky. The man is 14 years younger than the artist, however, this does not prevent the lovers from understanding each other perfectly. “We traveled a lot at the beginning of our acquaintance. Together with him they created a studio. It is important that people do not look at each other, but in one direction,” concluded Natalya Sergeevna.

Component of happiness

Having experienced an unhappy love for Andrei Tarkovsky, the actress never loses heart again. The meeting with her third husband, Igor Dnestriansky, took place during the production of the children's play “Bambi”. Igor helped direct her and also played several roles in the production.

Another feature of the actress is her boundless love, especially for her loved ones. And she is often reproached for this, saying that the actress’s relatives play in all the films. So, Bondarchuk invited her third husband to play the role of Pushkin, and Alena Bondarchuk, the actress’s half-sister, starred in the film “Living Rainbow”.
