The main director of the theater was sorry to lose a talented artist, and he offered Burkov this option: to work for several months in the troupe, without being included in the staff, on a voluntary basis, or something. How to pass a probationary period in terms of behavior, to prove that the failure of the premiere was an accident. The only requirement of human society: do not be a slave, be who you are called to be on earth, be a man. We rarely meet, for example, I and Sh (Shukshin). But this society frees me from life in another society - in the state one.

We have ceased to be patriots of our Motherland. We have broken our necks looking at the West, have grown dumb with false envy at other people’s money and the brilliance of someone else’s glory, feverishly leafing through the Bible in order to somehow correspond to the terminology of fashionable myth-making. The pseudo-revolutionaries are happy that they have fallen in line with the Western masters; they are knocking on the doorsteps of Hollywood and Broadway, begging for productions.

Am I kind? Many will say yes, good. Moreover, this opinion was authoritatively assigned to me by Shukshin himself. It’s all the same that he received the title, it’s all the same that it was raised to the level of law. And yet this is not so. Or not quite like that. Do not know yet. I'm just ashamed. For what? For whom? And not for anything, not for anyone. Or for everything, for everyone. This is what makes me akin to the majority, what makes me popular - causeless and pointless shame. It is he who forces me to be constantly cheerful, forces me to entertain everyone. Shame forced me to go on stage. And I am talented out of shame, not out of intelligence. So they love me because, like most people, I am ashamed to live.

I have no friends. The only friend I had (Shukshin) passed away. And you need to build your future life based on this.

If it were up to me, I would close all theater schools. They bring nothing but harm to art. If interesting actors appear among graduates, it is because they themselves protected their talent from teachers at school.

said that she met Georgy Ivanovich at the theater school - she was 13 years younger than the artist. The actress loved him madly all her life, and Burkov answered her in kind. Tatiana’s parents objected to her marriage to Georgy, but the girl insisted on her own: “My father was strongly against it. When he found out that I was going to marry him, he hit me on the back with a jump rope for the first time in my life. When Burkov’s mother saw me, she was petrified. I was small and very thin.

I immediately realized that I was finished, because her tears started flowing. She even told Zhora to choose between me and his mother,” recalls Ukharova.

As a result, Tatiana and Georgy’s wedding took place without their parents: “My mother could not come to the wedding because my father was against it,” explains the actress. However, even this fact did not darken the happiness of the newlyweds - they did not part until Burkov’s death.

Georgy Ivanovich always wanted children, but Tatyana’s first pregnancies ended tragically: “I had miscarriages, two boys. I fell... The doctors didn’t save me. Now I could, but then there were no such opportunities,” the actress sadly recalls.

In May 1966, the couple had a long-awaited daughter, Maria.

After the girl was born, Tatyana’s mother-in-law came to visit: “His mother thawed out for a short time to look at her granddaughter.” However, even the appearance of Masha did not completely soften the mother-in-law. And Burkov became a wonderful dad: “He is a very gentle and touching father, he took care of his daughter very carefully, made up fairy tales with her and kept giving her books,” said Tatyana. Tatyana said that Burkov was never treated for alcoholism, despite numerous rumors about it: “Yes, he drank, there were unpleasant moments, but there are more legends. He was not treated for alcoholism and did not suffer from it.

He was in the hospital, but not because of alcoholism, he had nerves and was tired.”

The artist is remembered warmly by numerous friends: “Crowds always gathered around him. He had a quality that not everyone has. If he saw that something was wrong with a person, for example, he was upset about something, then he would start telling some funny stories about himself, the person would immediately become cheerful,” Tatyana recalled.

Death and memory of the actor

In 1990, the legendary director Eldar Ryazanov began filming the film “Promised Heaven.” The actor got a role in the film. He rehearsed a lot, repeated his lines and had no idea that he would no longer be destined to play this role. The accidental injury turned out to be fatal, causing the actor’s death. Georgy Ivanovich wanted to get a book from the top shelf, reached for it and fell sharply. Burkov's hip joint was damaged and a blood clot broke loose. The actor was urgently hospitalized and underwent surgery, but his condition continued to rapidly deteriorate. Doctors could not save the actor and he died. The cause of death was thromboembolism.

According to Ryazanov’s stories, after Burkov broke his leg, one of the actors joked that Georgy Ivanovich could play the role on crutches. However, this, unfortunately, did not happen.

The actor’s date of death is July 19, 1990. The funeral took place a few days later. At farewell to Burkov, only the artist’s relatives and friends were present. The actor’s grave is located at the Vagankovskoye cemetery. A little later, a monument was erected at the place where the actor was buried.

After the death of Burkov, his wife Tatyana Ukharova allowed the publication of the artist’s diary entries, which he kept since 1953. In 1998, the book “Chronicles of the Heart” was published, containing all the essays by Georgy Ivanovich.

The years of the actor’s life were full of creative work. Perhaps the viewer would have seen Georgy Ivanovich on the screen more than once again. Colleagues were shocked when the actor, who was only 57 years old, died.

Burkov underwent surgery, and the actor even began to recover, but soon his health worsened. Unfortunately, the great actor could not be saved. On July 19, 1990, his heart stopped. The funeral was held modestly, in the circle of close people.
