Rocket
If you ask any sports fan about who he associates biathlon with, he will answer without hesitation: Domracheva. This fragile and gentle girl is the pride of the country. All Belarusians are proud of their compatriot for the fact that in just a few years she managed to reach unprecedented heights and beat the most experienced German athletes in competitions.
At the moment, Dasha is usually called a fast rocket, for her agility and dexterity.
How did it happen that a simple girl, from a country that was never famous for biathletes, became the best in the world?
Daria Domracheva: biography. Hesitant steps
The baby was born into a family that had nothing to do with sports. Daria's parents are architects.
A bright star lit up in the summer of August 3, 1986, in the capital of the country, Minsk.
When the baby had just turned four years old, the family decided to move to Siberia.
In the small, one might say, small town of Nyagan, there were practically no opportunities for the development of the physical abilities of a young athlete.
But there was a basketball section, and it was here that Domracheva signed up. Only later, after a while, did the girl give her preference to skiing, and then thanks to the influence of her older brother.
The first time I decided to start skiing was in 1999, and I must say, it was a success. Young Dasha seemed born to skate.
The most interesting facts about Daria Domracheva
27-year-old biathlete Daria Domracheva was called the “Queen of Sochi” by the Russian press, and President Alexander Lukashenko awarded her the title “Hero of Belarus”. The reason is significant: the athlete won three gold medals in individual races in Sochi 2014 - this has never happened in the history of world biathlon.
Naviny.by has collected the most interesting facts about Daria Domracheva - a talented athlete, patriot and enviable bride.
A stunning career
“Daria Domracheva is absolutely unstoppable in Sochi: she runs powerfully, shoots quickly and accurately,” this is how sports commentators described the performance of the Belarusian biathlete. Yes, Domracheva showed good athletic results even before the 2014 Sochi Olympics. But what happened in the Russian southern city was not predicted by any bookmaker: Domracheva is a new star of world biathlon, like the Russian Anfisa Reztsova and the German Kati Wilhelm . Daria became the first three-time Olympic champion in biathlon, who won all her victories in individual races in the entire history of the Winter Olympic Games.
Domracheva and Lukashenko
Alexander Lukashenko was one of the first to congratulate Domracheva on her first victory at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. The champion’s first gold medal was “washed” by the entire Krasnaya Polyana. The history of Belarusian sports will certainly include the legendary night tea party of the head of state with the athletes, when Lukashenko’s youngest son Nikolai personally gave flowers to the Olympic heroes, and father Fyodor Povny admitted over a glass of red wine that he had prayed for the victory of the Belarusians.
Daria Domracheva - Hero of Belarus
On February 17, Lukashenko congratulated three-time Olympic champion Daria Domracheva on winning a gold medal in the mass start at the Sochi Olympics and awarded the athlete the title of Hero of Belarus. "Dear Dasha! This is a huge success! You're just great! All of Belarus is delighted with your new victory. Having won the title of three-time Olympic champion, you accomplished a feat. Modern history does not know such cases. In our Fatherland, exploits are especially honored. We sincerely congratulate you on being awarded the highest award of the Motherland - the title “Hero of Belarus”. Happiness, health and good luck!” says the congratulatory telegram.

When Domracheva refused to carry the flag at the opening of the Olympics in Sochi 2014, the fans started a record: biathletes are superstitious people, none of the standard bearers, except Maxim Mirny , have won anything so far, so Domracheva does not want to be among them... However, the public was mistaken . The biathlete does not believe in omens, because she won one of her last victories while competing under number 13, she adores black cats, and it is simply difficult for such a fragile girl to carry the Olympic flag.
Why Daria Domracheva does not compete for Russia
The athlete is asked this question regularly. She lived in Russia for many years and began playing sports near Khanty-Mansiysk, playing for Russian youth teams. In 2004, Daria received an invitation from the head coach of the Belarusian women's team and accepted it. “I always knew that I would return home and play for my native country. Even when I watched some competitions on TV, I rooted for the Belarusians. My homeland is Belarus. Financial conditions are probably better in Russia. But that’s the kind of patriot I am!” she admitted to reporters in an interview.
But her attitude towards Russia remains warm. After her third victory at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, Domracheva said in an interview with Tribuna.com: “I want to thank all the fans for their enthusiastic support. Members of my family, brother, and mother were present in the stands. Russians and Belarusians are brothers and sisters. I consider Russia my native country.”
KGB officer?
Once “Belarusian Partisan” wrote that, according to their information, biathlete Domracheva holds the rank of KGB officer, but did not provide any evidence. Daria herself never mentioned that she was an intelligence officer. There is no relevant information from the department either.

Although if you google it, journalists have some thoughts on the personal life of the athlete. At one time, even serious sports publications called Norwegian biathlete Ole Einar Bjoerndalen . However, in Sochi, Daria, when asked by a journalist what connected her with the Norwegian athlete, snapped: “We are friends with Bjoerndalen.”
There were quite a lot of publications in the press of photographs of Daria with the director and screenwriter of films Maxim Subbotin . Together they took part in the creation of the film “Representing Belarus”.
But the athlete herself always answered all questions about Subbotin evasively, and explained her reluctance to discuss her personal life on her official website: “I am not a supporter of private life becoming public knowledge, but in connection with the emerging wave of all kinds of rumors, I think it’s worth introducing clarity. The only official information about my personal life will be the message about my marriage.”

Career
It all started when Dasha joined the Russian biathlon team and immediately impressed with her high potential. But the competition was incredibly high, and it was pointless to hope for even a place in the adult squad. But the champion’s persistence knows no barriers.
In 2004, Domracheva continued training with the national team and built a professional career. The girl's success is obvious.
The first competitions in Belarus took place in 2005, and in 2006 Daria made her debut at the World Cup. According to the results, she took only 16th place. But I must say that for a beginner this was an excellent result.
Then the stubborn athlete began to go uphill and only got into the top ten.
It would seem that it would not be possible to jump above this limit, but Domracheva surprises everyone, and the unthinkable happens in Oberhof - the biathlete is leading in the race for the cup. But an unfortunate misunderstanding occurs: during shooting, the Belarusian biathlete Daria Domracheva makes a mistake and shoots at the target while standing, although according to the conditions of the competition it was necessary to take a prone position. She is disqualified, and the victory simply slips away from her hands. The athlete is given only the third place of honor.
By the way, another embarrassment occurs with the young lady, and again in Oberhof. She manages to shoot at a target, but not at her own, but at someone else’s.
But this did not stop Daria from bringing a world champion medal. The girl wins silver. But triumphant performances are yet to come.
Sport
In sports, there were no other grades other than “excellent”. Here she was at her best, she conquered any peak. The very first mentor, Albert Musin, who put the girl on skis, immediately distinguished her from hundreds of others. The second person thanks to whom the world recognized the athlete Daria Domracheva, coach Viktor Postnikov, suggested that in 1999 she try to combine skiing with shooting - to take up biathlon. After finishing his sports career, he participated in the opening of a biathlon school in Nyagan, in which Domracheva became one of the first students.
During one of her visits to her hometown of Minsk on family matters, Daria had a conversation with the coach of the women's biathlon team, she was invited to participate in competitions for the Belarusian team. Dasha loved Belarus, it was her dream to compete for her native country, she gave a positive answer and left Nyagan. Russia did not want to let go of the promising athlete. By that time, Domracheva had victories at Russian junior championships and prizes in European competitions. It took six months to obtain the right to compete for Belarus. The birth certificate in the city of Minsk, Belarusian SSR, played a decisive role.
Year | Sports achivments |
2005 | At the junior world championship, the first was the individual race. The scope on Dasha's rifle falls off, and during the third shooting she misses five times. It ranks 40th. But after this, the sprint and pursuit bring her two victories. |
2006 | In the pursuit race at the junior world championship, Dasha receives a bronze medal. She made her debut in the World Cup (the 1st stage took place in Sweden), Domracheva took 16th position in the sprint. |
2007 | Two silver medals at the junior world championships - in the pursuit and sprint. |
2008 | This season was marked by stability, Dasha firmly established herself in the top 10 biathletes based on the results of all races. During the World Cup stage in Oberhof, a funny incident happened. Daria was the leader of the competition when she came to the second firing position. Inspired by the fight and leadership, she shot while standing when she should have done it lying down. She was not counted as a hit, and Domracheva left the race. However, at the 5th stage of the World Cup, Dasha takes third place in the personal race and for the first time in her life stands on a podium at this level. |
2009 | Dasha clearly had no luck in Oberhof. She was again in the lead in the mass start race and was the first to reach the third shooting range with a large gap over her rivals. But the first three bullets flew at someone else's target. Dasha caught herself, started shooting at her own, missed and the assigned 4 penalty laps knocked her out of the fight for the leadership. |
2010 | Domracheva made her debut at the Vancouver Olympics, where she won bronze in the 15-kilometer race. The Khante-Mansiysk stage of the World Cup brings Daria silver in the mass start race, and together with her team she wins a bronze medal in the relay competition. The overall standings of the World Cup (it is always held at the end of the season) allowed biathlete Domracheva to take sixth place. |
2011 | The heyday of the athlete Domracheva Daria. Finally, a balance between shooting and speed has been found and established. Different stages of the World Cup brought several victories. |
2012 | The first time Dasha won the world championship, it happened in the 10-kilometer pursuit race. |
2013 | Another gold medal at the world championship, now in a mass start race. The World Cup stages brought 3 victories, 9 ascents to the podium and second position in the final ranking at the end of the season. |
2014 | Daria receives the first Small Crystal Globe in her life for the mass start. The season ends with third position in the world according to the results of the overall standings. |
2015 | In the overall standings at the final Khanty-Mansiysk stage of the World Cup, first place is rightfully given to biathlete Domracheva. Dasha is the owner of the Big Crystal Globe. |
Daria Domracheva misses the 2015/2016 sports season due to illness.
Despite such successes and good sports results, not a single bookmaker placed special bets on Domracheva before the Winter Olympics in Sochi. But what happened in this southern Russian city requires a separate chapter in the biography of biathlete Daria Domracheva. She was unstoppable there, ran quickly and powerfully, and shot accurately. A new star has lit up in the world history of biathlon.
Sochi
In 2014, the blue-eyed blonde climbed to the top of success. At the Olympics, she received well-deserved gold in the fifteen-kilometer race.
Three days later - the second gold medal. Once again, all the competitors were behind in the individual race, although this was to be expected, there was a sense of purpose and strength for victory.
And on February 17 - another success and gold again. This is incredible luck. History has never known such a grandiose triumph.
Belarusians are proud of their compatriot and wish her only victories and only first place in every competition.

Personal life
This question worried every fan of the talent of a wonderful athlete and a real Belarusian beauty.
Gossip about Daria’s personal life, her novels and relationships quite often flashed in the media.
But the time has come, and the girl began to be often noticed in the company of Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. The couple stubbornly denied rumors of a love affair, because at that time the man was legally married and the athletes simply did not need such a scandal. Why advertise a relationship that has just begun?
However, the public soon learns that the multiple winner is divorcing his wife. Once again, newspaper headlines are full of news about a new round of relations between Daria and Ole.
But Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Daria Domracheva did not consider it necessary to talk in public about their personal lives and preferred to keep their relationship secret so as not to lead to a scandal.
For many years, the connection between the champions was a big question. Although, I must admit, the couple was always together, they tried to separate only for the period of training and participation in various competitions and championships.
The young people hid from the press and tried to take every possible step so as not to fall under the camera lenses of curious paparazzi.
What does Daria Domracheva do after finishing her sports career?
A correspondent for the Minsk-Novosti agency found out how the four-time Olympic champion spends her time outside of big sports.
A little more than 4 months have passed since that sad June for fans of Belarusian biathlon, when Domracheva announced the end of her sports career at a specially convened press conference. However, having treated the journalists to a cake after the event, Daria tried to slightly neutralize the bitterness of her decision. Since then, the Hero of Belarus has appeared in the news quite often, as if telling us all: “Here I am, in fact, I never left. I just put my skis and rifle aside.” What is there in Dasha’s life instead of them? As it turned out, a lot of things. Domracheva...
- …gathered my team for the Minsk Half Marathon
The name they came up with for it, of course, is not the most original - Darya Domracheva Team, but that’s not what’s important.
The entire amount from the team’s participation in the race was transferred to the accounts of the charitable organization “Children. Autism. Parents" and "Wings of Angels". And the cheerful slogan on the Run, baby, run T-shirts distinguished Domracheva’s team from the rest: “The guys from my team are not professional athletes (with some exceptions), none of them are running for an Olympic record today. They are representatives of various professions, and today they have a big goal - to conquer themselves and enjoy it. “RUN, BABY, RUN” - that’s exactly how, with humor and the desire to get the most out of this day, we support ourselves, each other and all the other participants in today’s race. We hope that our moto will help lift the spirits and overcome their kilometers for those who are running behind,” Domracheva wrote on her Instagram.
- ...received a medal of honor from the International Biathlon Union
This pleasant event happened at a gala evening dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the IBU in Porec (Croatia). Moreover, Dasha did not arrive at the event in the role of a wedding general, but became the host of the show. Of course, having awarded Domracheva, the Biathlon Union could not ignore her husband, eight-time Olympic champion from Norway Ole Einar Bjoerndalen. He was also presented with a Medal of Honor.
- ...mourned along with everyone about the death of Anatoly Kapsky
Alas, some very sad events took place this fall. On September 22, at the age of 53, the chairman of the board of the BATE football club, Anatoly Kapsky, passed away. A huge loss not only for game No. 1, but, perhaps, for the entire Belarusian sport. It is not surprising that Dasha could not stay away:
“It’s very hard to believe... Anatoly Kapsky... A man of action, a man who leads. Thank you for everything that YOU have done for Belarusian sports! In my memory you will remain like this - full of energy, living by business, sincere, with an open smile on your face. I don’t want to and can’t believe it. I offer my condolences to the family and friends.”
- …took part in karate training in the Bright Team project
As we all remember, Domracheva was elected the first star ambassador of the European Games 2020, and therefore her status obligated her to periodically illuminate all sorts of useful events with her presence. One of these was karate training. Daria's company in this case was made up of representatives of Belarusian show business. Let's be honest: the sight of Domracheva in a snow-white kimono inspired more tenderness than fear. But seeing how diligently the ex-biathlete honed her martial arts skills, you can’t help but wonder: won’t karate become the Björndalen couple’s favorite leisure activity in their sports retirement?
- …met with teammates and coaches
Between events in her social life, Domracheva tried to find time for pleasant gatherings with her friends from the Belarusian national team. Dasha shared one of these on Instagram. In the selfie you can easily recognize Anastasia Kinnunen (before Duborezov’s marriage) with her daughter, Irina Krivko, Dinara Alimbekova, Nadezhda Skardino (where would we be without her?) and the former head coach of the women’s team, Austrian Alfred Eder:
“6 beauties and a Real Man! Thanks to Alfred for responding to the invitation and coming to visit us in Minsk! Always welcome!!!" — Daria was modest and playful like a champion in her comment.
- ...celebrated the second birthday of my daughter Ksenia
Daria is not the most generous with photographs when it comes to her daughter.
So, on baby Domracheva’s second birthday, she posted on a social network: “When is your daughter’s birthday. It was a wonderful holiday :)"
In the photo we see smiling parents and balloons. The hero of the occasion must have been somewhere behind them at that time.
- ...went to the sea in October
“When you don’t have time for a summer vacation, summer in October sounds even better!” - this is exactly how the Hero of Belarus described her short October visit to the sea. Without unnecessary details. However, it’s not hard to guess from Domracheva’s wardrobe: the region chosen for her vacation was warm and sunny. And based on the hashtags #seamore #familyvacation #sunshine #activevacation, we can conclude that the vacation was also active and family-friendly.
- ...bragged about the new addition to the family
This is exactly what the Olympic champion decided to call the purchase of a new car in a Moscow showroom - a snow-white Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid.
“As of today, there is an addition to our family. This elegant hybrid snowflake. Moscow - Minsk test drive with Ole Einar was excellent,” Dasha shared her emotions.
By the way, the cost of a “snowflake” on the official website of the brand in Russia starts from 105 thousand dollars. So there is no doubt that the family will now be able to travel with ease.
- ...presented to the public her own line of clothing
The event took place at the Minsk Falcon Club and brought together, perhaps, the entire sports and sports elite.
Famous athletes wore their outfits on the podium: Lyubov Cherkashina, Nadezhda Skardino, Alexandra Sasnovich, Melitina Stanyuta, Ekaterina Galkina, Sergei Dolidovich, Sergei Novikov, Alexey Aidarov, Alexander Syman, Tatyana Drozdovskaya and many others. Of course, Daria and Ole Einar did not deprive their dear guests of their presence. We do not undertake to judge the quality and designer novelty of clothes from DaDo (although the man in overalls is a little shocking), however, the fact that, according to Dasha, the entire collection presented during the show was produced in Belarus deserves respect. Nice bonus
Fortunately, this year fans of Dasha’s biathlon talent will have a chance to see the athlete in her usual image, on skis and with a rifle. This can be done during the traditional Christmas race, which will take place in Gelsenkirchen on December 29. The Belarusian will be accompanied on the ski track, of course, by Ole Einar Björndalen.

Point in controversy
In 2020, the biathletes got married, which became known thanks to photographs from the ceremony published in one of the local newspapers. Only close relatives and friends were invited to the wedding. This is how Ole Bjoerndalen and Daria Domracheva became married. The wedding took place without much pathos.
The happy family also admitted that they are expecting a new addition soon, which they are incredibly happy about.
Daria Domracheva’s child was born on October 1, 2020. She gave her husband baby Ksenia. For the first time in many years, Ole forgot about sports and missed the training season in 2016–2017. The wife said that they will return to the sport at the beginning of 2020.
