A new citizen of the Soviet Union was born on one fine March day in 1956. The boy was given the name Nakhim, since it was difficult for people to name his diminutive form, the name was transformed into Fima, and then into Efim. The place of birth was a small village with the beautiful name Nexikan, which is located near Magadan. Father - Zalman Shmuilovich Shifrin was a political figure accused of espionage, who was later completely rehabilitated. He had an older brother, Samuel, with whom the artist maintained a truly friendly relationship.

At the beginning of 1966, the family was allowed to move to Jurmala (Latvian SSR), where the young man graduated from school and became a university student. Having received the coveted diploma, the talented young man goes to Moscow, where the biography of Efim Shifrin continues. He enters the GUTSEI in the variety department. The course was supervised by the outrageous artist Roman Viktyuk, who invited the talented student to play in student productions. Soon the guy was already performing in several performances. In particular, the audience liked his work in “Goodbye, boys!” and “Nights After Graduation.”

The talent of the aspiring artist was also noted by the competent jury. In those years, he received several awards from the most prestigious show jumping competitions among pop artists. Creative path

Efim began his path in the world of art on the stage of the Moscow State University Student Theater, where he made his debut in such productions as “The Night After Graduation” and “Goodbye, Boys.” Later, the artist began performing in one-man performances. The most successful performances during that period were solo performances:

  • “I play Shostakovich”;
  • "Round Moon";
  • "Three Questions";
  • "I would like to say".

By the mid-80s, Shifrin had already “matured” so much as an artist that he became a two-time winner of the Moscow and All-Union pop artist competitions. However, truly great, all-Union fame fell on Efim Zalmanovich in 1986, when the humorous television show “In Our House” was aired, in which the artist read the monologue “Mary Magdalene”.

Since then, the artist has become a constant participant in such popular humorous programs as “Around Laughter”, “Full House” and many others.

Realizing that he was ready to move on, in 1990 Efim Zalmanovich created his own “Shifrin-Theater”, which he still directs to this day. His repertoire was always full of musical plays, and the artist himself performed romances by Klevitsky, Minkov, and Kochetkov with great pleasure.

The year 1993 was marked by the first benefit performance of Shifrin, who performed his number “Hello, artist!” together with the popular group "Na-na".

Since then, over the next 13 years, the comedian has annually delighted fans of his talent with new concert programs. Despite his great success with the public as an artist of the humorous genre, Shifrin always wanted to play deep dramatic roles . And he fully succeeded when he made his debut on the stage of the Theater in 1994. Vakhtangov in the production of “I Don’t Know You Anymore, Darling.”

Subsequently, the artist appeared before the public more than once in a completely unusual theatrical role. He managed to perfectly convey the complex images of the characters in the productions:

  • "Gossip";
  • "The Dragon";
  • "Rubber Traders";
  • "Princess Yvonne."

Wanting to try himself in all areas of entertainment art, Efim Shifrin began acting in films. In the 90s, this was the film “Bolotnaya street, or a remedy against sex,” dubbing cartoons and filming for the children’s magazine “Yeralash.” In the musical “Angel with a Fool,” Shifrin performed thirteen songs, securing his fame as a beautifully singing artist.

In the 2000s, Efim Shifrin took part in such projects as “Gloss”, “Hero of Our Tribe”, “A Play for a Man”. A special niche in the artist’s creative biography was occupied by filming in New Year’s fairy-tale musicals: “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Three Heroes”, “The New Adventures of Aladdin”, “The Golden Key”.

Efim Zalmanovich managed to realize himself not only as an artist, but also as a successful writer.

His first literary creation was the autobiographical novel “The Theater Named After Me,” which was followed by a series of biographies, as well as several books in the new format of Internet diaries. In 2016, the artist published a book intended for the youngest readers, “I Am a Big Panda.” Shifrin also paid great attention to recording audio books, including “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”, “The Swineherd” and many others.

In 2020, the artist received an invitation to become the host of an updated version of the humorous television show “Around Laughter.” In the same year, the popular sitcom Philfak was released, in which Shifrin brilliantly played a Russian language professor who began a passionate affair with a young teacher.

In the series, the artist not only demonstrated his excellent physical shape, but also once again proved his talent as a versatile actor. Thanks to his jokes and witticisms, filming the series turned out to be extremely easy and enjoyable for everyone involved in the filming process.

The artist, who has irrepressible vital energy, continues to work actively: he regularly participates in various pop concerts, plays in the theater, acts in films, tours a lot in Russia and abroad, and even manages to write his own blog.

Personal life of Efim Shifrin

Mysterious and hidden from the views of strangers is the personal life of Efim Shifrin. He was never met by idle journalists with a woman whom he would call beloved and desired. This gave rise to a lot of rumors and gossip. Information often appears in the media that the reason for this behavior of a popular actor is gay.

The artist himself answers all questions about this in a humorous manner. He says it should be no one's business who he is friends with or has an affair with. But this does not calm the pen sharks. Family of Efim Shifrin

Numerous fans of the artistic and humorous talent of the popular actor are interested in the question: “Is there a family for Efim Shifrin?” It is impossible to answer it reliably. The artist himself does not say anything on this issue.

Efim Shifrin calls his parents his family, who supported his son’s aspirations until the last days of his life. They believed that Fimochka would achieve glory. In the 80s, the mother of the popular comedian invariably appeared at all of his concerts.

His family and numerous colleagues who have ever worked with him in various projects, including television.

Efim Shifrin's father studied in Vitebsk twice

Zalman Shifrin entered the Vitebsk Jewish Pedagogical College in 1926. In his memoirs “Sad Rhapsody. Biography of Zalman Shifrin,” he recalled that the technical school was located on the Vitba embankment:

“At that time of famine, the technical school had its own canteen: the food there was relatively good and inexpensive. Funds for it came from a number of countries, including the United States. I received a stipend of 12 rubles a month and, eating in the canteen, living more than modestly, I could barely survive on it. At the technical school there were two dormitories located on Zaduvnaya (now Frunze) and Malomogilevskaya (now Kalinin) streets,” wrote Efim Shifrin’s father.

Zalman Shmuilovich was an active participant in the drama club and helped compile a catalog of books in Hebrew for the city library. But due to denunciations from informants who told the technical school administration that he was the son of a nepman and did not have the right to study at a state educational institution, Zalman Shifrin was forced to leave the educational institution of his own free will.

He returned to Vitebsk in 1931 and entered the industrial department at the Vitebsk Financial and Accounting College. At the same time, he worked as an accountant at a yeast factory, thanks to which, according to his recollections, he lived better than most students:

In the student canteens the food was meager, but at the enterprises, in the workers' canteens, it was quite filling, and they provided more bread.

At the technical school, Zalman Shifrin was the executive editor of the wall newspaper, headed the counting office, was engaged in various social work and loved the theater:

“I often visited the theater, usually sitting in the gallery - according to my budget. The BDT-2 theater was located on Lenin Square. There was also the Tikhantovsky Theater (as it was called after its former owner), located in a small cozy building on Kanatnaya Street, in a public garden. Performances were staged here by the State Russian Drama Theater, whose station was in Bobruisk, and the Minsk Jewish Theater under the direction of Rafalsky, who came on tour,” wrote Zalman Shmuilovich in his memoirs.

But denunciations began again. This time, letters began to arrive to the administration that Zalman Shifrin was the son of disenfranchised people and was hiding his origin. When it was confirmed to the director of the technical school in the village council in Dribin that Shmuel Shifrin was deprived of voting rights as a NEPman, Zalman was expelled from the technical school.

Children of Efim Shifrin

The question of Efim Shifrin’s children is a secret behind seven seals. There is no information anywhere. The popular comedian himself prefers not to answer such questions. Even in the program “Alone with Everyone,” answering all questions honestly and openly, he avoided the topic of children and wife.

The children of Efim Shifrin have numerous roles in various performances that have been loved for almost 30 years. He equally successfully plays drunks, unfaithful husbands, elderly women, etc. It is very difficult to list all the characters in which Shifrin performed.

Moving to Moscow. Carier start

In 1973-1974, Efim Shifrin studied at the Faculty of Philology of the Latvian State University. In the evenings, the student took part in amateur art groups, and after one of the performances he realized that his calling was the stage. By the way, his father was an avid theatergoer who, while studying in Vitebsk, did not miss a single performance at the local Melpomene temple. Perhaps it was he who instilled in his son a love of acting.

Efim Shifrin with his parents After the first year, Shifrin took the documents and left to conquer Moscow - he entered the Rumyantsev State School of Circus and Variety Arts in the variety department (course of Roman Viktyuk). He graduated from it in 1978.

In 1977, Shifrin began playing with Roman Viktyuk at the Student Theater of Moscow State University. Among his theatrical works of that time, one can highlight roles in the productions “Goodbye, Boys!”, “Duck Hunt”, “The Night After Graduation”. A year later, the artist joined the Mosconcert, where he worked for the next ten years.

Young Efim ShifrinAfter college, Efim Shifrin continued his education at GITIS, where he graduated from the department of pop directing in 1985. At the same time, Shifrin’s first solo performance, “I would like to say,” was performed, based on the works of Viktor Koklyushkin. Based on the monologues of the same author, in 1988 and 1990 the plays “Three Questions” and “Round Moon” were staged on the stage of the Moscow Variety Theater.

Efim Shifrin gained national fame in 1986, after the TV show “In Our House”, on the air of which the artist read the monologue “Mary Magdalene”. Efim Shifrin - “The Penitent Mary Magdalene”

Efim Shifrin's wife

Nothing is known about the wife of the popular comedian. Everyone knows that he never officially married and did not lead a joint household with a woman. This is precisely what is strange, according to numerous admirers of Efim Shifrin’s talent.

In the late 90s, some humor lovers believed that Efim Shifrin’s wife was a popular actress performing in the humorous genre, Klara Novikova. They starred together in Regina Dubovitskaya’s “Full House” program. But after a while it turned out that the popular comedy stars were connected by friendship. Klara Novikova had a husband who was Efim Shifrin’s best friend.

Shifrin Efim: biography, wife

The artist has never been married. He also has no children. In addition, Efim never admitted his romantic relationships. Because of this, there are always a lot of rumors and gossip surrounding Shifrin regarding his orientation. But he tells everyone who is curious that he is not going to let the public into his private life, since he has the right to secrets. And in this he is absolutely right. But human curiosity also does not go away. And considering what a huge army of fans the artist has formed over the years, it is strange that so far there has been no leak of information about his personal life.

Efim Shifrin started going to the gym at the age of 40. He became so imbued with this activity that he became seriously interested in bodybuilding and also achieved tangible results in this. For example, he received diplomas from the Committee of Sports and Physical Education, the Federation of Fitness and Bodybuilding for promoting a healthy lifestyle and sports, and also received the Mr. Fitness award from the World Class club.

Childhood and family

Efim's father, Zalman Shifrin, was a political prisoner - in 1938 he was accused of espionage and sentenced to 10 years in a penal colony. He served most of his sentence at the Shturmovaya mine in the village of Adyglah in the Magadan Region. Zalman Shmuilovich spoke in detail about his life in the camp in three books of memoirs, but we are interested in his acquaintance with his future wife Rasha (Raisa) Tsipina.

The 35-year-old woman was told about Zalman’s fate by his brother Gessel. Raisa sent a letter to the colony with words of support, and a correspondence began between them. Soon she was already traveling from the other end of the country to distant Adyglakh to throw in her lot with the man who had captivated her heart from a distance.

Zalman Shifrin was released in 1948, but for another eight years he was forced to live in the Nexikan village of the Magadan Region due to a sentence of lifelong exile in the Dalstroy area.

Childhood photos of Efim ShifrinEfim Shifrin was born in 1956, shortly after his father was rehabilitated. In 1966, the family - parents and two sons, including the eldest Samuel - moved to Jurmala. There, Efim received a matriculation certificate and entered the university.

“You know, the sharks of the pen constantly ask me about Kolyma. And for some reason it seems to everyone that I must tell terrible memories of my misfortunes. But I constantly upset journalists. My place of birth does not speak at all about my difficult childhood. It was happy and cloudless. Misfortunes befell my father and mother, but I did not suffer any grief. I was born the youngest son of a truly happy family, this is firstly, and secondly, the child does not realize the whole tragedy of what is happening. Besides, I was born the same year that my dad was rehabilitated,” said the artist.

Efim Shifrin in childhood and youth By the way, the artist’s real name is Nakhim. Since it is difficult to shorten it to a diminutive, his friends called him “Fima.” This is where the pseudonym “Efim” was born.

Efim Shifrin: “All my villains were charming”

On January 11, the Roman Viktyuk Theater will once again present the play “Prostitutes.” The lyrical comedy of the Italian playwright Nino Manfredi has been running in the theater for 21 years, and all this time the role of the failed writer Armando has been played by Efim Shifrin. An Izvestia correspondent asked the actor how his character and he himself had changed over the years.

Roman Viktyuk: “It’s too early for me to close the curtain”

People's Artist of Russia - about creative longevity, unrecognized revolution, love for an opera diva and connection with God

It’s incredible how many years the play hasn’t been closed, and you play this role...

— When I started playing this performance, I was much younger than my hero, now I’m much older. That case when Romeo is played by a pensioner (laughs). But we will play as long as the audience walks.

12 years ago you said that “Putan” can be played for a long time. I quote: “As long as I can move around the stage.”

“I have retained the ability to move, and therefore the fate of the performance is not in danger yet (laughs). We are making minor changes to the text: the word “computer” has been replaced with “tablet”. When we started, there were no mobile phones. True, our typewriter still clatters, although it has already disappeared from use, but it is a sound monument to the time when the play was created. The rest is not outdated. The play is wonderful, everything there is eternal. Warm human relations. Simple plot.

Did Viktyuk bet on you?

- Yes. The only performers who have not changed all these years, the two main characters - Ekaterina Karpushina and I - we are permanent. We never had a second cast. The Putti changed, they became younger and younger, and we became older.

Has the audience's reaction changed?

Psychoanalysis session from Roman Viktyuk

The director opened the new theater with a controversial play by Tennessee Williams

— Viktyuk, like all innovators, slightly anticipated his time. Over the years we have become better accepted. At the end of the 1990s, “Putans” was very unexpected in form and Viktyuk’s aesthetics were not yet familiar to theatergoers. I remember there were difficulties with perception. They played, for example, in Saratov, and after intermission, to our horror, the hall thinned out. Then they played with an intermission, without microphones, and there was the acoustics of an opera house. Then time and technology came to the rescue. The form of the performance no longer frightened the audience. The performance has fans; they follow us from city to city. The fans have matured during this time, the set of items in our acting kitchen has changed, and we go out in the same makeup.

Let’s turn to your television works. How did you get into the series “Philfak”? Didn't it stop you that it was a youth comedy?

“It seemed to me that I needed to shake myself up with rigidity, partly rude. A very blissful picture has developed in my life, everything in it is in a straight line, from goal to goal. And then an unexpected offer. I didn’t think twice when I read the script. Everything was in favor of me starring there. The role is the head of the department of Russian literature, and I once studied at the philology department, I know the atmosphere well. I took on the job with pleasure. I've never played anything like this. This Gudkov is a rather unpleasant guy. A complex person, bilious, cynical, jealous.

All my villains used to be charming. I remember how warmly the audience received my Burgomaster in “Dragon” based on the play by Evgeniy Schwartz, directed by Vladimir Mirzoev. And in the film “Gloss” by Andrei Konchalovsky, my hero is the famous fashion designer Mark Schiffer, who fancies himself a kind of Napoleon, although mannered and unpleasant, but I have not heard a single review that he turned anyone away from him.

The death-defying stunt from 'Circus Princess' will be shown live for the first time

The long-awaited premiere of the musical by Mikhail Shvydkoy at the Moscow Theater

You come up with something new all the time, you are many-sided and diverse. Suddenly they started singing romances, and then they saw you in musicals. Participated in the show “Circus with the Stars”. You have written several books, becomeMr. Fitness ”, you have a blog on social networks , you have thousands of subscribers . You're acting in a movie. What else will you surprise us with?

“I didn’t have any goal to surprise, it just worked out that way.” Projects spontaneously appeared in my life. Did I think that I would sing complex vocal parts (with a symphony orchestra) and participate in four musicals? “You Can’t Choose Times,” “Life is Beautiful,” “Circus Princess,” rock opera “Crime and Punishment.” Konchalovsky told me this while working on “Crime and Punishment”: “My friend, you have gone to first grade.”

I actually went to first grade for the umpteenth time, which I don’t regret: I graduated from the whole school during rehearsals. Amazing music by Artemyev, who also sat in the hall, and duets, and choirs... And in “The Circus Princess” strange choreography appeared that I had never done: for example, in the grand banquet scene at the end of the first act - hand ballet, stylized, synchronized eating food and drinking alcohol. I had no right to let anyone down in the mass scene, so I sat at home in front of the mirror and learned all this. There is generally a lot of movement and plasticity.

Raskolnikov moved to the dashing nineties

"Crime and Punishment", having become a rock opera, has not lost its drama, but has acquired healthy humor

There is one more thing that I love as much as others: recording audiobooks. Something became a bestseller. Dovlatov’s “Foreign Woman”, for example. I myself suggested the St. Petersburg writer Sergei Nosov, I fell in love with his novel “Curly Brackets,” for which he received the “National Best 2015” award. I was then a member of the small jury and am proud that my vote became decisive in determining the winner. The book is very complex, there is an incredible number of characters, voices, and they should not intersect. I was terribly worried about what Nosov would say. And I just melted when he wrote to me that he was happy with the result.

I write everything with the director, St. Petersburg resident Dmitry Kreminsky, and don’t just sit in front of the microphone and read a book. For me, this is the same serious acting work as a performance. I wrote down Dostoevsky - “Someone else’s wife and husband under the bed.” Wonderful books “White on Black” by Gallego (I’m glad that he was also pleased with my reading), Etgar Keret, “This ancient, ancient, ancient world! History Lessons" by Andrey Usachev - it is written in an ironic key, very interesting, for children and adults.

Russians criticized new domestic films

- Serious loads. How and where do you relax?

— I don’t rest anywhere. For what? In the summer, if possible, it’s good to swim in the morning, and in the evening to go see people and give a concert. I switch the switch: I take a break from one thing (from musicals, for example), and recover from another.

What kind of filming and rehearsals are coming up?
