Life as it is... Oksana Baiul

Biography

Oksana is a famous television presenter, actress and model who represents global brands of cosmetics and clothing on the catwalk. Many fans and journalists attribute such success to the beauty’s external characteristics, but this is only a shell under which hides a talented person with quick acumen and a strong character. The sultry brunette recently appeared on the radar of the paparazzi and in social life. Despite this, the girl was able to conquer the whole world thanks to her charisma.

Oksana Lavrentieva in childhood

In 1978, on December 30, just before her birthday, the future star of show business appeared in the cultural capital of Russia - St. Petersburg. Lavrentieva’s parents have nothing to do with the world of art and creative activity; they devoted their entire lives to working at an industrial enterprise. My father is an engineer by title, and my mother is a technologist. They met on .

Soon the girl went to first grade, like all her peers, and began to learn the basics of education. From an early age she was popular in class and was always the center of attention from the opposite sex. Soon she captured the school with her beauty and strong character, the girl showed excellent results in her studies. In her youth, Oksana was used to achieving her goal no matter what.

To channel her energy in the right direction, the girl was enrolled in a local art school, where she began to realize her talents. Even then, Lavrentyeva’s dream arose in her heart to become a clothing designer and create new images. The schoolgirl planned to become a professional ballerina, but this was not destined to come true. Although, in the future, she did not forget about her childhood desires and began to dance for herself, as a hobby and relaxation.

At the age of 14, Oksana Alekseevna’s father was sent to Hungary for permanent work. A year later he returned and took his loved ones with him. Life awaited them in a military town, where there was no secondary education. As a result, the girl had to continue her studies at evening school. Soon she passed her final exams and received a certificate.

For a long time she could not decide where to enroll and eventually chose the local Institute of Advertising and Design, where she was successfully enrolled as a first-year student. But our heroine did not continue her studies and dropped out due to moving to Moscow. In the capital, Oksana did not fool around and entered the financial academy. Her student years began again, four years later she defended her diploma and successfully graduated from the university.

For a long time, the girl sat idle in search of a suitable job, but she did not plan to connect her life with her specialty. Soon fate gave her a lucky ticket; Lavrentieva tried herself in the modeling business. In 2007, she began to appear on the covers of glossy magazines, including serious publications “Elle”, “Ok”, “Hello”, “InStyle”.

After that, she became the face of a famous jewelry company. She instantly gained popularity. Proposals poured in from all sides. But she could not avoid the envy of her colleagues. The girl’s external characteristics are quite unusual; her height and weight are 164 centimeters and 49 kilograms, which is rarely suitable for the modeling business.

The heroine of the article herself spoke about her appearance in one of the interviews, saying that she does not consider herself a beauty in the standard sense; in many ways, the girl captivates with her charm and inner character. From this moment on, her career receives a strong boost and doors open to the social life of the capital.

Meaning of a girl's name

Early childhood:

Looking at Oksana, you can immediately understand that there is something special, elusive about her. Little Oksana gives the impression of a gloomy and withdrawn child. The girl prefers to communicate with girls. She tries to avoid noisy companies and games; she prefers board games that require attention and intelligence. She loves checkers and chess, in which you need to play with one opponent. Having become a little older, Oksanochka shows herself creatively in games - she puts on plays, plays with dolls, jumps rope, or even initiates a game called “Cossack Robbers.”

Teenager:

Oksana holds her own, persistently achieves what she wants and does not easily accept attempts to hinder her in any way. She doesn’t really like to study, so she does it without much diligence, but nevertheless she does well in all subjects. Oksana prefers to make friends mainly with girls, but she doesn’t trust anyone with her secrets.

Adult:

Ex-husbands of Oksana Lavrentieva

She does not try to share her private life outside of fashion shows and magazine covers with journalists and fans; the girl tries to protect her loved ones from unnecessary attention from the public. But it’s unlikely to be possible to hide secrets and hidden aspects of existence from fans. Our heroine is famous for her large number of husbands, with each of whom she was unable to build strong relationships.

While still a schoolgirl, she was very popular among boys, this is not surprising, it is difficult to hide such beauty. At the age of 15, she found her first love; it was a whirlwind teenage romance. Soon Oksana became a mother for the first time; a girl, Alina, was born from her lover. At that time, she was only 19 years old, she had to grow up in a short time and turn on her maternal instinct. Unfortunately, the happiness did not last long; the child's father died of cardiac arrest when Alina was two years old.

The girl was left completely alone with her little daughter in her arms. At that time, she had to combine education and raising a child. It was then that she decided to go to Moscow. At the age of 20, she settled in the capital and took her mother and child with her. A career in the modeling business was just beginning to take off. Soon she meets a successful businessman and chairman of the board at VTB Bank Andrei Kostin. He became her first husband and she gave birth to a son, Yegor.

After meeting her husband, her career in the modeling business skyrocketed, and she was showered with contracts from famous brands and glossy magazines. He made a serious contribution to her development in social life. Her husband began to give her expensive gifts - a prestigious Aston Martin car and a huge apartment in the Kuntsevo residential complex. An interesting fact is that there is quite a big age difference between them. The girl plunged headlong into the world of luxury.

Soon, due to disagreements, the marriage broke up, and in the winter of 2011 she again went to the registry office, this time for the chairman of the board at the MFK bank Anton Pak, but three years later the couple decided to separate by mutual consent.

In 2020, she began an affair with a businessman and head of an IT company, Dmitry Komissarov. They began to be often noticed at public events, and joint photographs appeared on the Internet. For a long time, the lovers were cautious, but the girl planned to move to a new level in the relationship. This couple was not destined to build happiness and they separated.

More recently, in the summer of 2020, our heroine got married again. Her chosen one was the famous publicist and writer Alexander Tsypkin. The romance between the young people began back in 2020; at the end of this year they officially confirmed that they began dating after attending a charity evening together.

The next year a new family appeared and they got married. The couple began to often appear at public events and flew together on vacation to Thailand. Currently, they lead a happy family life and inspire each other to new achievements in their careers.

To do this, the model hires governesses and servants, who spend most of their time with them. The mother spends every weekend with the children, the young talents’ everyday life is scheduled minute by minute, with various sections and training sessions.

Now it continues to delight lovers of exclusive clothing with products from famous domestic designers. She also opened her own beauty and wellness salon, “White Garden.”

Life as it is... Oksana Baiul

It is about her, Oksana Baiul, Olympic champion (1994) in single figure skating, world champion (1993), silver medalist of the European Championship (1993) and two-time champion of Ukraine (1993, 1994) that we will talk about today.

Having promised to make this post about the famous Ukrainian figure skater, I set about searching for material... and immediately repented - “it was not easy that pulled my tongue!” ))) As it turned out, writing about Oksana is not so easy, and see for yourself by reading this “difficult” story... But, as the proverb says, “when you grab the tug, don’t say it’s not strong!” - so we had to fulfill our promise)) So let’s begin our story...

//"Ours" - because in the story, in addition to many articles, I use several interviews with Oksana Baiul made at different times, which reveal interesting aspects of her extraordinary personality... So it turns out that Oksana is kind of talking about herself... //

______________________

CHILDHOOD

Oksana Baiul was born on November 16, 1977 in Dnepropetrovsk in an ordinary family and studied at an ordinary school.

Although... Dnepropetrovsk secondary school No. 34 has something to be proud of - many talents emerged from the walls of this school who became known throughout the world. Next to the school is the Meteor sports complex, where Tatyana Navka, Dmitry Palamarchuk, Tatyana Volosozhar and, of course, Oksana Baiul conducted their training.

She started figure skating in 1982, at the age of four. But Oksana’s sporting and human destiny was not so simple.

Oksana's parents divorced in 1980 due to her father's drunkenness, when she was 2 years old. After this, her father Sergei Baiul, who worked as a mechanical engineer, completely disappeared from her life and her daughter was raised by her mother, Marina Baiul, a French teacher, and stepfather Anatoly. Oksana’s mother took up dancing in her youth and dreamed of her daughter becoming a ballerina.

“But I was four years old when my grandmother said that I was too fat and they wouldn’t accept me into the ballet school, but she gave me skates,” Oksana recalls.

Oksana never became a ballerina, but she began skating very diligently. Her first coach was Stanislav Korytek.

School director Valentina Vasilyevna Ivanova recalls with a smile:

“Oksana remained in my memory as a thin schoolgirl... She was so passionate about figure skating that she didn’t pay any attention to classes at school. I had to reprimand her more than once for frequently missing lessons. I remember how once, after such a “dispersal,” coach Valery Dolgov stood up for her. “Don’t scold her,” he said in a friendly manner. “You’ll see, this girl will be a great athlete.” - That’s what happened. I remembered his words on the day when I found out that Oksana became an Olympic champion. At school she was an obstinate and ambitious student. Now I think that it was these qualities that helped her become known to the world at such a young age.”

And Oksana Baiul herself does not hide the truth about her antics at school, as she says in one of her interviews:

—What did you want to become as a child?

— I wanted to become a famous figure skater. Honestly. Since childhood I wanted to be the best. No one has ever pushed me. They didn’t take me by the hand, didn’t lead me to the skating rink and didn’t say: “You must!” On the contrary, for the sake of additional training, I myself, on my own initiative, was ready to even skip school. I drew grades in my diary, forged teachers’ signatures, and showed them to my mother. When they called her and asked why I wasn’t in class, she was surprised: “How is that possible? Today she brought me a diary with fives!..” And in high school, I went even further - I stole the class magazine from the teachers’ room and gave myself grades in various subjects. Can you imagine what I did?.. I got a lot of trouble from my mother for this.

But in August 1991, when Oksana was only 13 years old, her mother died. And after her mother, literally a month later, her grandmother died, and the girl was left an orphan. Oksana's coach initially looked after her. But after he emigrated to Canada, the girl was left completely alone and slept on a cot at her home skating rink.

Oksana studied at Dnepropetrovsk Secondary School No. 34 until the seventh grade. Galina Zmievskaya , Odessa’s leading figure skating coach, took her in that Valentin Nikolaev became Oksana’s second coach who, in fact, invited the young figure skater to skate in Odessa.

“I still need this person because he knows me better than I know myself,” says Oksana.

It was with him and Galina Zmievskaya that she went through the difficult and lightning-fast path of her ascent to Olympus of world fame.

RISE

Through hardships to Olympus... Baiul’s career is full of funny and dramatic situations.

The future champion first skated at the age of four. But at first, the trainers did not see Oksana’s gift at all, and at first she studied in the “Health” group. And six years later, in 1987, she began to take part in the USSR championships. True, she could not rise above 10th place.

In one of her first performances at international competitions, at the Nations Cup in November 1992, 14-year-old Oksana fell on a spinning jump, but managed to unexpectedly beat the fall with dance moves, and then performed a triple Salchow on her third attempt.

In January 1993 he made his debut at the European Championships .

In the original program, she makes a mistake in a cascade of jumps, performing a double Lutz instead of a triple Lutz; a minute and a half after the start of the program, she discovers that she is skating with an unlaced boot, she stopped her performance and turned to the judges. After the meeting, the referee allowed the entire program to be performed again. For the second time I performed a triple lutz in a cascade. The amazed judges gave scores as high as 5.8.

And then the most interesting thing happened. In the free program, despite two falls, Oksana performed the most difficult triple lutz and triple loop, eventually taking second place.

The thing is that Zmievskaya did not fly with me to Helsinki at that time and I was accompanied by Valentin Nikolaev: he knew better than me from the technical side. After the first day, I stood second, but I still didn’t have the five triple jumps necessary for the free program. So the coach tells me: “You don’t need five. If you do the four elements cleanly, you can still fight for gold.” I grabbed the side with my hands and stood. Valentin Alekseevich whispers to me threateningly: “Well, go ride, otherwise I’ll kill you.” When I heard this, I immediately turned on and went. The first four jumps I jumped with a bang, I felt that everything was going well, well, I thought: wow, right now I’ll do a triple flip! Yeah, I did... I fell flat on the ice and took second place.

She created a sensation at World Championships ; the debutant immediately became world champion. She performed both programs in a breathtakingly emotional and artistic manner, decorating the program with dance movements, delighting the audience.

TRIUMPH

“I actually planned to compete at the 1998 Olympics, but the Soviet Union collapsed. And Ukraine urgently needed a candidate to participate in the 1994 Olympics, which took place in Lillihammer, and they sent me. And I took it and won,” recalls the champion.

At the 1994 Olympics, Oksana Baiul performed one of the best short programs in the history of figure skating (to the music of P.I. Tchaikovsky).

The first part, lyrical, is decorated with an elegant combination of spirals; in the second part, emotions literally overflowed; an original sequence of steps and interesting rotations were performed at high speed (coach Zmievskaya called from behind the side to calm down).

Despite the error in the triple lutz-double toe loop cascade (touching with the free leg when landing), some judges practically did not reduce the scores (scores up to 5.9 were given).

During training before the free program, figure skater from Germany T. Shevchenko collided with Baiul, damaging her shin with a skate, and her back was also bruised. Baiul received stitches. The German team doctor gave Oksana several injections of painkillers.

— I still can’t understand how you managed to collide with the Ukrainian German Tanya Shevchenko at the last skate?

— We both made a mirror entry to the Lutz. She instinctively pushed my chest with her hand and threw her skate forward, hitting me on my right leg. Imagine: I’m sitting in white tights and watching the blood flow through them. But then Katka Witt arrived, pulled me to the side, and then the German doctor gave me several injections. We always kept in touch with him at all tournaments; he was a specialist of the highest class.

In this state, overcoming the pain, injected with painkillers, she crossed herself and went out onto the ice.

She performed a free program, performing five triple jumps, again with her usual artistry and musicality. At the end of the program, Zmievskaya, realizing that the program was missing a cascade of jumps, shouted about it from behind the side and Oksana changed the program, adding a double axel-double toe loop cascade in the last seconds. After completing the program, Oksana had a nervous breakdown.

— I’m wondering what you said when you performed your free program?

- I can repeat it word for word. The music ended, I exhaled and said: “...fuck, thank you, Lord, that it’s all over.” And I went to the coach. It was very difficult. All my life I have been doing improvisation right on the ice. But that day I was skating with an injury...

With intense competition, the outcome of the competition was decided by one vote of the German judge, world champion J. Hoffmann, who placed Baiul second in the short program, and changed his mind in the free program and gave her first place.

After the performance, the young athlete admitted:

“I didn’t expect to become an Olympic champion.”

ZIGZAGS OF DESTINY

Then Baiul, together with coach Galina Zmievskaya, moved to live in the USA and performed professionally.

— Did Galina Zmievskaya make the decision to leave for the USA?

— Yes, because the contract for our tour was signed back in Norway at the Olympics. I reacted positively to this. Every person wants progress in their business. And America was a dream. And it came true.

There, overseas, everything started to spin: a lot of money, awards, and media attention fell on the girl.

And she could not resist the temptation, having taken part in alcoholic drinks that were by no means light. Problems with alcohol appeared.

In 1997, her Mercedes crashed into a tree, and Baiul’s blood was found to contain alcohol above the normal limit. Although according to the laws of the state of Connecticut, alcohol is generally prohibited until the age of 21, Oksana was 19. She was sentenced to three months of treatment for alcoholism.

As Oksana herself told reporters more than once, genetic dependence apparently took its toll...

“I had a lot of problems and I didn’t know how to solve them. And alcohol dulled these feelings. Since the moment I went through rehab, I have not drunk a single drink that contains alcohol. This is a thing of the past. Just an anecdote - she smiles - when I left the rehabilitation center, I turned 21. This is the same milestone, having reached which, you can already buy alcohol. At this age, everyone is just starting, but I’m already finished...”

From 1994 to 2000 I spent in limbo, not understanding what was happening to me, what was happening around me. At my age, teenagers go to college, where, through trial and error, they choose what suits them, and receive information about themselves, their bodies, and life. I didn’t have all this, because nothing existed in my life except ice. And there was no one to ask. I understand that my perception of my new life was largely influenced by the fact that I grew up without a mom and dad. I wouldn't feel so lonely and hopeless.

But it always seemed to me that I was a professional and tried to do everything as best as possible. When I failed at something, I would bite myself. Immediately I couldn’t do anything, and I didn’t know what to do. I argued with agents, coach, producers. But I can't blame them for that. They got what they needed, what they needed from me, I just couldn’t accept it. And I broke down.

This is how Oksana Baiul grew up, and later admitted:

“The Olympic crown is worn throughout one’s life. Sometimes it makes my legs give way.”

Later, she finally found her father - as they say, he had “given up” with alcohol. Oksana found him through the school where she trained as a child, and along with him, her paternal grandmother.

He was not actually present in my life, and I don’t know whose decision it was - his or my mother’s. I saw my father only at my mother's funeral. I remember that day well. He came up to me with the words: “I am your dad,” and wanted to hug me to him. And I foolishly pushed him away and stayed with my mentor. Then a lot of people wanted to replace my parents and helped me become a champion. I thought that I could live without my dad, since he abandoned me when I was very young. But sooner or later a person wants to know his roots and see his loved ones. I realized this in an American clinic, where I was treated for alcoholism for three months. I realized that, in fact, there was no one next to me...

When Oksana came to her father, Sergei Baiul met his daughter on the threshold of his house in Dnepropetrovsk. The grandmother was holding bread and salt in her hands, and he stood behind her with a bouquet of flowers. Seeing the noble granddaughter, the grandmother began to cry. Oksana too... Then the family sat down at the common table, talked for a long time about life, and Oksana asked her father, probably the most difficult question: why didn’t he look for her for so many years?

In response, Sergei Baiul silently opened the sideboard and took out newspaper clippings and photographs of his daughter. It turns out that all these years he did not stop monitoring her life, even secretly came to her training and, hiding behind the stands, watched his daughter.

In a word, the reconciliation of Sergei and Oksana Baiul took place. Since then, Oksana has visited Ukraine more than once. But, alas, her father is no longer alive - he died in 2006.

In America, business people asked: “Why do you need this? He wants to communicate with you only for the sake of money.” But I didn’t listen and did the right thing, because two years after my arrival my dad passed away... I would never have forgiven myself if I hadn’t found my father and made peace with him. But, thank God, I made it,” says Oksana.

Now Oksana has only one grandmother left in Dnepropetrovsk, to whom she comes.

ABOUT PEOPLE AND ABOUT YOURSELF

Now Oksana Baiul continues to perform and is involved in business; she has published two books in English - “Oksana: My Own Story” and “Secrets of Skating”.

Oksana makes costumes for figure skaters. Stars and aspiring figure skaters perform in her dresses. But few people have been able to see Baiul’s entire collection, because shows are rarely held. She dreams of dressing young Dnepropetrovsk figure skaters in her dresses.

“The suit is 80 percent of success in figure skating,” says the athlete.

Tell us about your designer clothing collection...

- Another one of my creations. When I grew up a little, I decided to introduce my clothing line into the world of figure skating. She created the sketches herself, developed the design from scratch, and selected and purchased the material. So I learned the basics of business.

The Olympic champion is unpretentious in everyday clothes. He feels most comfortable in a sweater and jeans. Although he loves the clothes of an American designer - his friend Randolph Duke.

In 2001, Oksana Baiul left FC, but in 2005 she returned to the sport again.

— Oksana, many years have passed since your triumph...

- Really? Did you count well? You know, every time I am reminded how much time has passed since then, something sank inside me. Because it feels like it was just yesterday. And the main thing is that, by and large, nothing has changed in my life since then. Just like then, I put on skates every day, I don’t remember myself without them at all. Ice is the main thing in my life. The dedication to what I do has not waned at all. Life has thrown me a lot over the years, but I haven’t hung up my skates. Although I tried to do it. There was a big break about five years ago, when I did absolutely nothing for two years. But this attempt to finish with ice, fortunately, did not work out well for me.

Besides sports victories, what do you consider the greatest success in life?

- The fact that I can do what I love, that I have enough strength and health to do it. And that there are always people next to me who can understand and help. Remember, as the hero of one movie said: “Happiness is when you are understood.”

— What do you value most in people?

— Honesty and openness. I know that there are no sinless people in the world, no one is a saint. And it often happens that the higher a person is, the more he has sinned in his life. But when he starts swearing that he didn’t hurt a fly, it looks very ugly.

— Do you like reading?

— Books are in my blood from my grandfather on my mother’s side. Here's someone who read a lot. If I found myself on a desert island, I would look for salvation in books. I would take some kind of novel. For example, "The Three Musketeers". Something mystical would be nice, ideally “The Master and Margarita.” It wouldn't have happened without Shakespeare either. It would probably be Romeo and Juliet. You will also need to take something funny.

— Over the years spent in America, have you lost the habit of Ukrainian cuisine?

- But why? Near my house in New Jersey there is a Russian store where you can buy homemade cottage cheese, herring, sausage, and honey. I often make cutlets, mashed potatoes, and most of all I love fried liver. Americans can't stand it, but I just adore it, and with onions and sour cream - you'll lick your fingers! I don't have any diets. It’s just that when I need to lose a couple of kilograms before a performance, I reduce the portions.

— What’s the story with the pictures for men’s magazines?

— There were no pictures. Find me at least one so that I can be there without Photoshop. I’m ready to play with you for the rest of my life - there is no such thing. I was offered a million dollars for a nude photo on the cover, but I refused. I work with children and I want them to see me as a mentor, not a model.

— How do you spend your vacation?

— I don’t even remember the last time I was on vacation. I’m such a workaholic that for me it’s actually a dirty word! You can write that I’m afraid of rest. It's very relaxing, and I can't afford to relax for a long time. I know that no one will do my work for me.

—Are you a superstitious person?

— I am a fatalist in life. I believe that whatever happens cannot be avoided.

At Christmas 2000, Baiul met Evgeniy Sunik. Businessman, son of Ukrainian emigrants who moved to the United States in the 70s. They lived together for five years, got engaged, but...

— Do you now have a partner in life?

— No, there is no such person about whom I could say: “We live together and are building a family,” next to me now. Zhenya and I were together for five years, but we broke up. You know, I have a very difficult character, and it’s very difficult for any man to be with me. I'm not an easy person.

Then Jim Brannon appeared in the gossip column, whom Oksana herself characterized as follows: “One hundred percent American. He is 42 years old, works in road construction and gets along with my dog.” But I broke up with him too.

I'm too young to become the wife of some oligarch. Do you imagine me in this form? I always say: if you sell me off to some billionaire, we can still earn some money. He will bring me back, pay extra so that he will never see me again and shout: “Communicate with her yourself!”

- Why so?

— My character is tough. In business I get along with people easily, but family is not a business. Here we need to look for compromises. This is how I am by nature - I don’t trust anyone, I don’t trust anyone, I don’t let anyone get close. Although from the outside I probably give the impression of an open and very sociable person.

- And what trait of your own character do you not like the most?

- My directness. I always tell people what I think to their faces. And this very often causes harm. But I can’t change this trait in myself, I was raised that way. No matter how hard I try, I can’t be different.

Oksana Baiul remains a citizen of Ukraine, having a residence permit in the United States.

In 2010 she returned to Ukraine, where she aims to open a world-class children's figure skating school. Now she is a student at the Faculty of Coaching at the Institute of Physical Education and Sports of the National Pedagogical Institute. M. Dragomanova (Kiev).

No one would blame you if you stayed in America forever - this is what many artists and athletes do. Why did you come?

— To be honest, I was just leaving to work, I didn’t even change my Ukrainian passport! I came to restore spiritual harmony. But the second and no less important factor is the desire to help others; I only developed it when I met my father. When I was little, everyone helped me. Now I feel that it is my duty to repay this debt, and best of all I will do it here - in my homeland.

— How would you describe Oksana Baiul in one sentence?

— He is a very good person, a creative person; has a bunch of problems that only she herself can solve, and this is a person who believes in God.

— In the morning, a woman looks at herself in the mirror. Do you like yourself?

- Yeah. When I wash my face, I see a young girl. And it always seems to me that I’m not 33. I’ve heard such things about Scorpios that they are very active, madly love gardens, flowers, roses... But I don’t love them. There were too many flowers in life. Too much! Therefore, dear readers, there is no need to give me flowers, I will re-gift them later. Nothing personal. And please, no offense.

Fresh photo - 4 years later.
