Yuri Shevchuk is a personality known to millions of domestic listeners and, perhaps, hardly needs any special introduction. This artist stood at the origins of Soviet and Russian rock music. The main theme of the author, performer and leader of the group “DDT” is protest against any manifestation of violence, hatred and incitement to war. In addition to the generally patriotic component, the other side of Yuri Shevchuk’s work are very personal lyrical songs dedicated to his first beloved wife Elmira Bikbova, who left this world so early... Brief profile of a musician
The place of birth of Yuri Yulianovich Shevchuk was the Magadan region; he was born in the village of Yagodnoye in May 1957. The boy's creative inclinations manifested themselves from childhood, although at first they were expressed in a love of drawing. In those years, the future rocker could most often be seen sitting at an easel with a brush in his hands. However, during his student years, a new passion prevailed over his artistic inclinations - rock and roll, which was becoming fashionable.
Brought up on the bard works of Vladimir Vysotsky, Bulat Okudzhava and Alexander Galich, Yuri Shevchuk began to compose his own songs. Very soon he could already be seen in such amateur rock bands as “Free Wind” and “Kaleidoscope”. Despite the harshness and topicality of Shevchuk’s texts, which already in those years received the most negative reaction from the authorities, his work was repeatedly awarded with various awards.

In 1979, Yuri Shevchuk became a member of a then nameless group that was rehearsing in one of the cultural centers in the city of Ufa. In the summer of 1980, this musical group received the name “DDT”, and Shevchuk himself became its permanent leader and author of almost all the songs.
In the 90s, real fame came to DDT and Yuri Shevchuk. It was during this period that many of his songs, the most famous of which are “Actress Spring,” “Rain,” and “What is Autumn,” became real hits. “DDT” has existed for almost forty years, during which each Shevchuk’s performance is still a unique and very personal conversation with the public, dedicated to the eternal themes of love, hate and death.

Although Yura was born in the village of Yagodnoye in the Magadan Region, from the age of four his parents brought him every summer to his mother’s homeland in Bashkiria. The future leader of DDT graduated from school in Ufa, where the family moved in 1969. 16-year-old Yura Shevchuk looked like a real hippie: he wore long hair, bell-bottoms and listened to foreign rock. He often received punishment for his appearance. Parents were constantly called to school, my father demanded a haircut, but the guy was stubborn. He took out portraits of classics - Gogol, Dobrolyubov, Chernyshevsky: “Look, they have long hair!” One day, Yura caught the eye of activists who were chasing hippies. There were five of them, and he was one. A squabble ensued. Shevchuk didn’t mince his words, and that’s what he got for it: enraged activists set his hair on fire. While putting out the flame, Yura burned his hands quite badly, but he never went to the hairdresser.

28-year-old Yuri met the main love of his life, Elmira Bikbova, when she was only 17 years old. The age difference - Shevchuk was eleven years older than his girlfriend - did not interfere with the romance. Big-eyed, fragile Elya fell madly in love with an aspiring rock musician. But it was not destined to grow old together - at the age of 24, Elmira died of cancer. The loss left an unhealed wound in the hearts of the rocker and their son Petya.

Shevchuk met the mother of his youngest son, actress Maryana Polteva, in the late nineties. A graduate of the Moscow Art Theater School (Oleg Tabakov’s workshop) met Yuri at the Moscow club “Pilot”, where at one time she worked as a coordinator of concert programs. But the romance between the rocker and the actress was fleeting - Yuri was in no hurry to get married, despite the fact that his girlfriend gave birth to his son Fyodor (pictured). Soon Maryana emigrated to Germany with her son. She never got married. The musician's youngest son, who will turn twenty in September, is very similar to his famous father. Fedor and Yuri see each other infrequently, mainly when DDT tours Europe.

Shevchuk met his current common-law wife Katya in 2004 in Kyiv. For a long time, the Ukrainian woman, who is 15 years younger than the musician, was in the status of a friend. And in 2014, Yuri introduced her to society as his wife. Katya is a doctor by profession, but after moving to St. Petersburg, she chose to run the household of her famous husband. She often accompanies the leader of DDT on tours, especially foreign ones, and is an excellent cook. “Ekaterina Georgievna feeds me,” admits Shevchuk. “Katya is not a public person, she doesn’t like it when I talk about her.”

Shevchuk raised his first-born as a real man. Pyotr Shevchuk graduated from the Kronstadt Naval Corps and served in the Marine Corps of the Baltic Fleet. But he didn’t become a military man—he followed in his father’s footsteps. True, he prefers techno music: Shevchuk Jr. became a DJ. He doesn’t boast about his big name: only his close friends know that the fashionable Dj Pete is the son of a rocker. This year Peter will turn 30, but he has not yet started a family and is in no hurry to become Shevchuk Sr.’s grandfather.
Elmira Bikbova and Peter
Yuri Shevchuk met his first wife, seventeen-year-old dancer Elmira Bikbova, in Ufa. Despite the rather large age difference, a real, huge, bright feeling immediately arose between them. Yuri affectionately called Elmira “My Spring”...
In 1986 they got married, and in November 1987 the couple became the happy parents of their son Peter. According to his mother’s recollections, the boy was born healthy, big and handsome. In March 1992, Shevchuk’s beloved wife passed away.
So, at thirty-five, Shevchuk became a widower, and six-year-old Peter lost his mother. Grandmothers on both sides helped the musician in his upbringing. When the boy grew up, he chose to study at the Kronstadt Naval Cadet Corps, after which Peter served for some time in the Baltic Fleet.

After breaking up with Maria, another woman appeared in the artist’s life, her name is Ekaterina Dyatlova. She is constantly with Yuri, whether on tour or important events. She tried to surround him with attention and care, while remaining in the shadows. The second wife of Yuri Shevchuk is not a particularly public person. She does not like to attract unnecessary attention to her person, but prefers to live a quiet family life.
Yuri himself greatly appreciates such care for him and believes that he was lucky in his life to meet a woman for whom he became important. And that makes him happy.
What are Peter and Fedor doing today?
It is noteworthy that the sons of Yuri Shevchuk hide the identity of their father from the public. For the youngest son Fedor, who lives in Germany, this is a little easier to do, since the musician’s name is not so well known in this country. He meets his father only during the tour of the DDT group in Europe. In September of this year, Fedor will turn twenty-two years old. Outwardly, he is very similar to his father in his youth, but has not yet decided on his place in life.
Shevchuk's eldest son Peter also became a musician. His love for programming was not in vain, and he became the creator of the group Trium Techno Night, in which he plays electronic music under the pseudonym DJ Pete. In his spare time, Peter develops applications for mobile phones, websites and interface design. Despite his excellent relationship with his famous father, he prefers to do without his help.
