Childhood and youth
Caroline was born on January 23, 1957. She became the first child in the family of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace Kelly. Her entire childhood was spent in Philadelphia, and her youth in France, where she studied. Perhaps that is why, to this day, Caroline, Princess of Monaco, has remained attached to this country. But her unconventional upbringing made her more like an American than a European aristocrat.
As a child, Caroline was very capricious; any of her wishes had to be fulfilled immediately. Actually, that’s what happened. In her youth, she was more than once a victim of scandalous paparazzi reports, probably no less than Princess Stephanie, her younger sister. But my parents attributed everything to youth and youthful maximalism.
After the birth of her brother Albert, Caroline lost the opportunity to claim the throne, but she was able to devote more time to education. She is fluent in five languages: English, Italian, French, Spanish and German, and has a degree in philosophy. Of course, like any aristocrat, equestrian sports, dancing, and music are not alien to her. As a child and teenager, she dreamed of becoming a ballerina and journalist.
Only in later life did Caroline begin to act more like her mother, Princess Grace Kelly. Princess of Monaco is not just a title. Carolina must bear certain obligations.

In 2002, in order to ensure succession to the throne and ensure that the Grimaldi dynasty retained the crown, changes were made to the Monaco constitution.
The new law provides that the right of succession can be exercised by the brothers and sisters of the deceased monarch, as well as his nephews and nieces.
If Prince Albert II does not have children, the throne will pass to the heirs of the first line - Albert II's elder sister, Princess Caroline, and her children from two marriages.
The material was prepared based on information from open sources
First marriage
One of the crazy acts of her youth was the beauty’s marriage to banker Philippe Junot. She is only nineteen, and he is already thirty-six. Philip, not endowed with an attractive appearance, had true masculine charisma and was known as a great rake. However, it is precisely such men that inexperienced young girls always like. Their romance lasted just over a year before Junot proposed.
The parents were against it, but were forced to agree to this marriage, because otherwise Caroline threatened to move in with her lover as a mistress. On June 28, 1978, the wedding took place. The next day is the wedding. The bride was beautiful in a Christian Dior dress. But the cloudless happiness did not last long. Unable to withstand the constant betrayal, Carolina filed for divorce. The marriage lasted only two years. It took another twelve years for the divorce to be recognized by the Vatican.
Most likely, this marriage was an act of protest against the mother’s attempts to instill decency in her daughter. Carolina did not hide her attitude to this, saying that she was not going to follow her parents’ lead.
Caroline Matilda of Denmark: The Unlucky Queen
At all times, the sympathies of the people leaned towards the humiliated and insulted. Princess Caroline Matilda, sister of King George III of England, was nicknamed "the unlucky one."
Mad Monarch
Fifteen-year-old Caroline Matilda was married to the ruler of Denmark, Christian, and in 1766 she came to Copenhagen. Christian's stepmother, Juliana, disliked her young daughter-in-law at first sight, as she dreamed of seeing her own son on the throne of Denmark.
Christian VII
Christian was only seventeen, and he did not hesitate to have fun with courtesans. The appearance of his wife did not stop him and this greatly upset Matilda. Soon the royal couple had a son, Crown Prince Friedrich, and Juliana hated the young queen even more.
Those around Christian began to notice frequent changes in mood - from exuberant fun to black melancholy. He did strange and illogical things. Matilda, hoping for a recovery, invited her husband to travel. Indeed, new impressions and a change of scenery helped him calm down for a while, but very quickly the illness returned and the monarch lost the ability to rule the country.
Matilda - reigning queen
He formally remained king, but Matilda began to rule. And although the queen was smart enough to rule, she urgently needed loyal assistants. Soon the royal physician Friedrich Struensee appeared in her life, becoming Matilda’s favorite and secretary. He persuaded the sick king to sign a decree equating the royal signature with Struensee's signature.
Second marriage
After the divorce, Caroline had many affairs. She even almost married Robertino Rossellini. And her relationship with tennis player Guillermo Vilas brought a fortune to the photographer who photographed their first date.
Caroline, Princess of Monaco, remarried in 1983, when divorce from her first husband was not yet recognized by the Catholic Church. Young businessman Stefano Casiraghi became the greatest love in her life. They had three beautiful children.
Casiraghi gravitated toward extreme sports and was very fond of speed, which ultimately cost him his life. In 1990, he crashed in a yacht race.
Carolina took Stefano's death very hard, her health seriously deteriorated, and her hair began to fall out greatly. She left with the children to a secluded estate in Paris.
Who knows, maybe Caroline and Stefano would still live happily. True, according to some sources, Casiraghi had a constant mistress throughout the seven years of his marriage. But still, from the outside, their family life looked very happy. How can one not believe in the ancient curse of the Grimaldi family?
"Grandmother of Europe" Part V
In the first third of the 19th century. The English monarchy was in decline. The crown, the symbol of the state, “was trampled into the mud by the reigning Hanoverian dynasty, numerous representatives of which had reached an extreme degree of decay.” At the beginning of the century, the situation in the Royal House was difficult. King George III had seven sons and five daughters (who by law could not inherit the crown if there were direct male heirs), but none of them or their children were legitimate contenders for the throne: their behavior and lifestyle did not meet the requirements law on succession to the throne.
George IV
Caroline of Brunswick
The eldest son, Prince of Wales George Augustus Frederick (1762−1830), secretly married the Catholic widow Mary Ann Fitzgerbert (1756−1837) in 1785. Georg was clearly aware of the consequences of such a decision. After all, according to the Act of 1701, a Catholic could not be queen. But when the question of succession to the throne and the payment of debts arose, the prince abandoned his long-term girlfriend and chose a bride from the German principality of Brunswick (Brunswick), daughter of Charles II Wilhelm-Ferdinand, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1735−1806) and Princess Augusta Friederike-Louise of Hanover (1737−1813) - Caroline of Brunswick, who was the granddaughter of Prince Frederick Lewis of Wales (1707−1751) and Princess Augusta of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg (1719−1772). By the way, Princess Augusta was the second cousin of Catherine II (1729−1796). And thus, Princess Caroline Amalie Elisabeth of Brunswick (1768−1821) was the cousin of George IV.
Frederick, Duke of York
Frederica Charlotte of Prussia
Frederick, Duke of York (1763−1827) - the second son of King George III, according to one historian, "the only one of the royal family who had the feelings of a gentleman." The gentleman, in his desire to become closer to the heir to the throne, married Princess Friederike-Charlotte-Ulrike-Katharina of Prussia (1767−1820), daughter of the Prussian king Frederick William II (1744−1797), from his first wife Princess Elizabeth-Christina-Ulrike Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1746−1840). But they had no children, since the Duke of York soon divorced her and married his mistress Mary Ann Clarke (1776−1852).
William IV
Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen
The Duke of Clarence (1765−1837), the future King William IV, lived for many years with the actress Dorothy Jordan (1761−1816), with whom he had ten children. Having incurred a lot of debt, he decided to marry with a rich dowry, but the matter ended scandalously. He later married Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen (1792−1849). The children from this marriage died in infancy.
Ernst August, Duke of Cumberland
Friederike of Mecklenburg-Strelitz
The most unpopular in the country, Ernst Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1771−1851), later King of Hanover under the name Ernst Augustus I, “disgustingly ugly, with ... a bad and vindictive character,” “bitterly reactionary in politics,” was suspected of murdering a footman and “had an affair of an extremely scandalous nature.” In order to produce a legitimate heir to the throne, he married Princess Friederike-Louise-Caroline-Sophia-Charlotte-Alexandrina of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1778−1841), who was the niece of the British Queen Sophia-Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1744−1818) and was the younger sister of the Prussian Queen Louise-Augusta-Wilhelmina-Amadia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1776−1810), who was the wife of the Prussian king Frederick William III (1770−1840). Princess Friederike was the daughter of Duke Charles II Ludwig-Friedrich of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1741−1816) and Duchess Friederike Caroline Louise of Hesse-Darmstadt (1752−1782). Frederica is a very interesting person, who was not distinguished by high morals and ethics, unlike her sister Louise.
For example, her first marriage was to Prince Friedrich-Ludwig-Karl of Prussia (1773−1796), the second son of the Prussian king Frederick William II (1744−1797) and his second wife Friederike-Louise of Hesse-Darmstadt (1751−1805 ), by the way, the sister of Grand Duchess Natalya Alekseevna (1755−1776), the first wife of Paul I (1754−1801), three children were born in this marriage. The second marriage was to Prince Friedrich-Wilhelm of Solm-Braunfels (1770−1814), from which eight children were born. From his marriage to Erst-August I, there was only one surviving son, the future George V (1819−1878), King of Hanover, who was married to Princess Alexandrina-Maria-Wilhelmina-Catherine-Charlotte-Theresa-Henriette-Louise-Paulina-Elisabeth-Friederike -Dahlia of Saxe-Altenburg (1818−1907).
Here we will briefly note that the line of descendants of George V of Hanover continues to this day. So his son, Crown Prince Ernst-August II Wilhelm-Adolph-Georg-Friedrich (1845−1923) was married to Princess Tire-Amalia-Carolina-Charlotte-Anna of Denmark (1853−1933), sister of the Russian Empress Maria Feodorovna (1845−1928) ), Greek King George I (1845−1913), English Queen Alexandra of Denmark (1844−1925) and Danish King Frederick VIII (1843−1912).
The next generation is the grandson of George V - the titular King of Hanover Ernst August III (1887−1953), in turn married to Princess Victoria-Louise-Adelheide-Matilda-Charlotte of Prussia (1892−1980), daughter of the German Emperor and Empress - Wilhelm II (1858−1941) and Augusta Victoria-Frederica-Louise-Theodora-Jenny of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg (1858−1921). Already their son and great-grandson of George V of Hanover, Ernst August IV (1914−1987), was married to Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1925−1980). And, who was the brother of Frederica-Louise-Thira-Victoria-Margarita-Sofia-Olga-Cecilia-Isabella-Christa of Hanover (1917−1981), wife and mother of the Greek kings - Paul I (1901−1964) and Constantine II (1940) .
Ernst-August V (right)
And the son of the latter, the great-great-grandson of George V - Ernst-August V Albert-Paul-Otto-Rupprecht-Oscar-Barthold-Friedrich-Ferdinand-Christian-Ludwig of Hanover (1954), is currently married for a second marriage to Princess Caroline of Monaco (1957). The high-born couple had a daughter, Alexandra of Hanover (1999). And one more curious fact - he is the nephew of the aforementioned Frederica of Hanover (1917−1981), and, accordingly, a cousin - Constantine II of Greece (1940) and his sister Sophia of Greece (1938), Queen of Spain. And his uncle, Prince George William of Hanover (1915−2006) was married to Princess Sophia of Greece and Denmark (1914−2001), sister of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh (1921), wife of Queen Elizabeth II of England (1926).

And again the wedding...
After Stefano's death, Caroline had more lovers. The relationship with Vincent Lindon lasted almost five years, but did not end in anything. Most likely, Caroline needed this novel to heal her spiritual wound, because the next time she walked down the aisle only in 1999. The third husband was the aristocrat Ernst V of Hanover, a scion of the British royal family, and now she became known as Caroline, Princess of Monaco and Hanover.
This marriage took place in a very original way. Caroline actually “bought” her husband from her friend Chantal Hochuli, paying her 60 million euros. Perhaps this was done to facilitate the divorce process.
However, this time family life did not work out. Ernst of Hanover is distinguished by such scandalous and defiant behavior that even the reputation of the Grimaldi princesses seems impeccable against his background. There is no intimacy between the spouses, the marriage is bursting at the seams, they openly cheat on each other.
Caroline
Caroline is the daughter of the late Prince Rainier III of Monaco and his wife, American film actress Grace Kelly. She spent most of her childhood in her mother's parents' house in Philadelphia (Philadelphia); by right of birth she was considered the heir to the throne - until the birth of her brother in 1958. She is also the legal heir of the Dukes of Polignac - and, as a result, a descendant of French nobles.
In 1974, the princess received a French baccalaureate (the equivalent of a regular high school) with honors. Caroline continued her studies at the University of Paris; She received a university diploma in philosophy with additional specialization in psychology and biology. The princess is known to speak fluent French, English, Spanish, German and Italian.
Caroline got married for the first time on June 28, 1978, to Parisian banker Philippe Junot; already on October 9, 1980, they separated - and absolutely peacefully; It is interesting that the Catholic Church recognized the divorce only in 1992. For some time the princess had an affair with Robertino Rossellini, the son of Roberto Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman; however, nothing serious came out of this novel.
On December 29, 1983, Caroline married Stefano Casiraghi, an athlete and heir to a large Italian industrial enterprise. Carolina and Stefano had three children. This marriage could have lasted much longer than the first, if not for a tragic accident - on October 3, 1990, Casiraghi died during a boat race.
Caroline's third - and currently last - husband was Ernst August, Prince of Hanover (Ernst August Prinz von Hanover). Ernst's title ceased to mean anything in Germany back in 1918 - but this did not stop the wedding; Interestingly, in Monaco Ernst's titles are still considered valid.
Their wedding took place on January 23, 1999 in Monaco; The prince divorced his previous wife, Chantal Hochuli, Caroline's former girlfriend, in September 1997. In her third marriage, Caroline had a daughter, Princess Alexandra (Princess Alexandra Charlotte Ulrike Maryam Virginia of Hanover).
Caroline's third marriage was not destined to last long - already in September 2009, the princess and her husband actually broke up. In January 2010, the keen eyes of journalists noticed Ernst kissing an unknown woman; After this, rumors spread in the press that Caroline and Ernst were getting a divorce.
At the moment, Caroline is the official ruler of Monaco - due to the fact that her brother, Albert II, has not yet acquired legitimate children. If Albert does not improve in the future - and lives less than his sister - Caroline will become the second sovereign princess in the history of the country. Previously, this title was held by Louise-Hippolyte Grimaldi; however, she managed to stay in power for only a few months, and the regent ruled for her. Albert now has two children - a son and a daughter - but both of them were born out of wedlock. Until Albert has a legitimate heir - or marries his son's mother, flight attendant Nicole Coste - the throne will belong to Caroline; Adoption will not help Albert either - in 2002, the Constitution of Monaco was changed, making this method useless in the struggle for the throne.
Children
Caroline, Princess of Monaco, gave birth to four children. Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre Caseraghi were recognized as legitimate in 1993, after the Vatican officially annulled their divorce from Philippe Junot. After Stefano's death, his father was replaced by his uncle, Prince Albert II of Monaco. The third marriage produced Princess Alexandra of Hanover.
Andrea Caseraghi could have claimed the throne of Monaco if Albert II had not produced heirs. His name is on the list of 50 most beautiful people in the world...
Charlotte Caseraghi is now one of the most popular figures in the aristocratic circle of Europe. She is considered similar to Grace Kelly. Charlotte is passionate about equestrian sports, literature, and fashion. She is a true princess, her reputation is impeccable.
Pierre does not lag behind his sister and is also distinguished by his versatility of interests; he loves music and sports. The prince plays the saxophone and enjoys surfing and skiing. Apparently, he inherited his penchant for extreme sports from his father.
The birth of Alexandra did not strengthen the marriage with Ernst. The young princess is seriously involved in figure skating.
Princess Charlene of Monaco cheats on her husband with a rugby player
Prince Albert was never able to make his wife happy
Prince Albert was never able to make his wife happy
The German Bild broke some unexpected news: according to the publication, Princess CHARLENE of Monaco is having an affair with her old friend, 36-year-old New Zealand rugby player Byron KELLEHER. Looking at the always sad face of the princess at official events, when she is photographed next to her husband, one readily believes in her betrayal. It is obvious that Prince Albert was never able to make his wife happy.

The scandal in the royal family was savored by all European tabloids today. Representatives of the ruling family of Monaco have not yet commented on this news. Byron Kelleher is a dark-haired handsome man, an old friend of Charlene, who was also a professional athlete before her wedding to the prince.
“If anyone could get along with this woman, it was only him,” a source from Bild magazine said about Byron.
Princess CHARLENE is constantly seen in the company of Byron KELLEHER |
Kelleher attended Charlene's wedding to Albert in 2011 - just before the wedding, she tried to escape from Monaco after learning about the third illegitimate child of the reveler prince. Kelleher and Charlene holidayed together on the Italian coast last year. And recently he joined the monarchs at a tennis tournament in Monte Carlo. And finally, according to sources, it was with Byron that Charlene had fun in her native South Africa, while her husband congratulated the newly-crowned Dutch king Willem-Alexander. And so that Charlene’s absence at this important ceremony for European ruling houses would not be conspicuous, Albert was forced to take his sister Caroline with him to the Netherlands.
When Albert and Charlene first got married, everyone expected that the princess would finally give the nation the long-awaited legitimate heir to the throne. But the years go by, and the child never appears in the palace. Many blame the fact that Albert is no longer so young and playful and that his wife’s sports career could have a negative impact on her childbearing function. However, the monarch himself explained the reasons for childlessness with a completely different problem: they simply do not have time to have children. In an interview with the Swiss TV channel SRF, the monarch once said:
“We have a lot of responsibilities, meetings and official events,” said 54-year-old Albert II. In addition, according to the prince, the pregnancy of the 35-year-old princess would prevent her from performing her representative functions.
Let us recall that Albert II, although he has not yet given the country a legal heir, is the father of three illegitimate children who were born to his former mistresses. However, by law they cannot claim the throne. Until Albert acquired legitimate offspring, the first place in the list of heirs to the throne is occupied by his older sister Caroline of Hanover, and then by her son Andrea Casiraghi.

Social and social life of Caroline of Monaco
The tragic death of Princess Grace Kelly in 1982 forced the eldest daughter to take her place in secular society. The famous actress sacrificed her career for the sake of her family and the title “Princess of Monaco.” Her biography is reflected in books, and a film was recently made about her. Caroline headed the Princess Grace Foundation, whose activities are aimed at helping sick children. She also actively helps the Monaco Red Cross. All of Europe attends his balls, and proceeds go to charity.
His childhood passion for ballet was not in vain. By the way, Monaco was the favorite place of the famous Diaghilev. Caroline is honorary president of the Monte-Carlo Ballet and chairman of the organizing committee of the Monte-Carlo International Arts Festival. Her active assistance in the reconstruction of the Library of Alexandria is known. She also chairs the annual Grand Literary Prize of the Prince Pierre Foundation.
Her stormy youth is behind her, now this beautiful woman is a real high-society lady and an example of style and elegance.
What jewelry did Charlotte Casiraghi wear to her wedding?
On June 29, a month after the civil marriage ceremony at the Princely Palace of Monaco, Princess Charlotte Casiraghi married film producer Dimitri Rassam in the town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. The celebration took place in a narrow circle of relatives and friends, however, the couple posted two photos on Instagram. In one of them, a large brooch is visible in the bride’s hair, reminiscent of the one another princess of Monaco wore to her wedding eight years ago.
For her wedding attire, the bride chose a Giambattista Valli dress and a light translucent veil, which hairdresser John Nolle pinned to the bride's hair using a large diamond brooch. This is part of the so-called traine de corsage, which can be translated from French as “corsage train”, which Karl Lagerfeld once gave to her mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco.

Traine de corsage is a French expression that at the end of the 19th century was used to describe a set of several matching brooches that could be used to “frame” the décolleté area.
Princess Caroline's set was made by jewelers from the French house Boucheron using the “en tremblant” technique (from the French “to tremble”), in which some fragments of the jewelry are attached to the base using small springs, as a result of which the diamonds shine even brighter. The Boucheron house also uses this technique in modern high jewelry pieces.

Princess Caroline wore these pieces herself and lent them to her brother Prince Albert's fiancée, Princess Charlene, for her wedding almost exactly eight years ago on July 2, 2011. Charlotte chose the wedding date (June 29) exactly on the day when her mother, Princess Caroline, married Philippe Junot for the first time.
