Ramzan Kadyrov is a bright personality in the Russian political arena. As the head of the Chechen Republic, he has been maintaining peace and order on his territory for more than ten years. The biography of Ramzan Kadyrov shows that his path was quite contradictory. And today, one part of the population considers him a cruel dictator, while the other considers him a peacemaker. At the same time, he is a hero of Russia and a candidate of economic sciences.
Childhood and youth
Ramzan Akhmatovich Kadyrov was born on October 5, 1978 in the village of Tsentaroy, which at that time was part of the Chechen-Ingush SSR. The boy became the last child in the family of the famous politician and future president, Akhmat Kadyrov. Mom headed the Mercy Foundation.
The Kadyrov family were representatives of the Benoy clan, one of the largest clans in the country. Loyalty to the traditions of his people and family, honesty and courage - all these principles formed the basis of the universe of the future president of Chechnya. The main authority for the future politician in childhood was his father, whose approval he always tried to win.
Ramzan Akhmatovich succeeded not only as a politician, but also as a scientist:
- Kadyrov received his secondary education at an ordinary rural school in the village of Tsentaroi. At the same time, the guy mastered the military science of the field highlanders, where he learned to ride a horse early and was fluent in cold steel and firearms.
- The guy graduated from school in 1992, but put off higher education “for later” and joined the ranks of the Chechen troops advocating the independence of Chechnya. After the first military campaign in Ichkeria, he received the position of head of his father’s security committee. But despite his position, he actively took part in political decision-making.
- In 1998, he enrolled as a lawyer at the Institute of Business and Law in Makhachkala. He graduated from the university in 2004 with honors, after which he was enrolled as a student at the Academy of Civil Service under the President of the Russian Federation. The knowledge gained there, according to Kadyrov himself, more than once helped him in the fight against illegal groups in Chechnya.
- In 2006, he defended his dissertation and received an academic degree, becoming an academician in economic sciences. Ramzan Akhmatovich is also a master of sports in boxing and the head of the Boxing Federation in the Chechen Republic. In addition, he is the chairman of the Ramzan football club.
Kadyrov Ramzan Akhmatovich
Russian statesman. Head of the Chechen Republic from April 5, 2011. President of the Chechen Republic from April 5, 2007 - April 5, 2011 Member of the Bureau of the Supreme Council of the United Russia party. Hero of the Russian Federation. Major General of Police. Prime Minister of the Chechen Republic 2006-2007. Son of the first president of the Chechen Republic within the Russian Federation, Akhmat Kadyrov.
Ramzan Kadyrov was born on October 5, 1976 in the village of Tsentoroy, Chechen Republic. The boy was the second and youngest son in the family of Akhmat Abdulkhamidovich and Aimani Nesievna. The family also raised an older brother, Zelimkhan, and older sisters, Zargan and Zulay. The Kadyrovs belong to one of the largest Chechen families, the Benoi. In religious terms, they are confessors of the wird of Sheikh Kunta-Haji, who belongs to the Qadiri branch of Sufi Islam, to which all the highest clergy of Chechnya belong.
The future politician’s most important authority during his childhood was his father, Akhmat Kadyrov, whose praise was a great reward for Ramzan. In his youth, Ramzan studied at an ordinary rural school, and at the same time studied the military science of the mountaineers.
During the First Chechen War, together with his father, he was in the ranks of the Chechen separatists and fought against the Russian Armed Forces. Further, since 1996, he worked as an assistant and personal bodyguard of his father, at that time one of the leaders of the separatist and anti-Russian movement in Chechnya, who declared “jihad” on Russia.
In the fall of 1999, Ramzan, together with his father, who opposed the growing influence of Wahhabism, went over to the side of the federal authorities. During this period, the young man entered the Makhachkala Institute of Business and Law, Faculty of Law, from which he successfully graduated. After receiving a law degree, he was enrolled as a student at the Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation.
Further, Ramzan Kadyrov began to actively engage in government activities. In 2000, he became a member of a special company under the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, ensuring the security of buildings of government agencies and senior leadership of the Chechen Republic. In 2002, he was appointed commander of one of the platoons of this special company, then headed the presidential security service.
During this period, Kadyrov's influence on the territory of Chechnya increased significantly, thanks to his active work and successful negotiations with fighters of illegal armed groups in Chechnya, who in most cases renounced their beliefs and joined the security service of the top leadership of the Chechen Republic. Together with his people, he personally fought the remnants of the separatist military formations. During this period, the young politician survived at least five assassination attempts.
In 2004, Kadyrov's father died during a terrorist attack while celebrating Victory Day. After this, the son of the ex-head of Chechnya was appointed to the post of Deputy Prime Minister of the Chechen Republic. According to Russian law, Ramzan Kadyrov, who was 28 years old at that time, could not succeed his father and lead Chechnya, since the candidate for this position must be over thirty years old. In 2005, the young politician took the post of acting chairman of the government of the Chechen Republic.
In 2006, Ramzan Kadyrov’s education and his ability to overcome negative phenomena in Chechnya associated with the actions of illegal military formations allowed the future politician to become an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. In the same year, Ramzan Akhmatovich defended his dissertation at the Institute of Business and Law in Makhachkala and became a candidate of economic sciences. In addition, Kadyrov received several more honorary titles, became an honorary academician of the Scientific Academy of the Chechen Republic and an honorary professor of the Modern Humanitarian Academy.
On March 1, 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed the candidacy of Ramzan Kadyrov for consideration by the Chechen Parliament. The next day, his candidacy was supported by 56 out of 58 deputies of both chambers of the Chechen parliament. On April 5, 2007, the inauguration ceremony of Ramzan Kadyrov as President of the Chechen Republic took place in Gudermes, where former Chechen Prime Minister Sergei Abramov, heads of several regions of the Southern Federal District, and President of the Republic of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh were present.
From the first days, the presidency gave positive results in terms of stabilizing the tense situation in the republic, as a result of which terrorist attacks decreased and residents felt the long-awaited peace. In addition to resolving the military situation, the head of the republic was actively involved in restoring infrastructure and constructing a number of architectural objects. The main source of large-scale construction was subsidies from the Russian budget and resources from the public fund named after Hero of Russia Akhmat Kadyrov.
Also, the first period of Ramzan Akhmatovich’s reign is characterized by the Islamization of the republic. Kadyrov opened the Russian Islamic University and the Heart of Chechnya mosque in Grozny in support of Sufi Islam, which is the traditional religion in the republic.
In 2011, Ramzan Kadyrov was re-elected to the next presidential term in the Chechen parliament and continues to successfully lead the republic. According to Kadyrov himself, the key role in his political career is the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom he regularly expresses his personal loyalty.
On December 26, 2020, Ramzan Akhmatovich defended his dissertation at the Dagestan State University for the degree of Doctor of Economic Sciences on the topic “Organization and management of the investment and construction sector and the restoration of the construction industry in a region with a destroyed economy.”
Five years later, on March 25, 2020, due to the expiration of his term of office, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Ramzan Kadyrov as acting head of the Chechen Republic. In the next elections on September 18, 2020, Kadyrov won, according to official data, with 97.56% of the votes with a turnout of 94.8%.
In addition to high achievements in economic sciences, Ramzan Kadyrov is a master of sports in boxing, and also holds the post of head of the Chechen Boxing Federation and heads the Ramzan football club of the same name, whose branches are located in all regions of the republic.
On June 21, 2019, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko awarded Ramzan Kadyrov the Order of Friendship of Peoples for his significant personal contribution to strengthening friendly relations and comprehensive cooperation with Belarus. Kadyrov arrived in Minsk to participate in the opening ceremony of the II European Sports Games.
On August 31, 2020, the head of Chechnya met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ramzan Kadyrov informed the head of state about the socio-economic situation in the region and spoke about the opening of the largest mosque in Europe. Putin emphasized that Chechnya’s development is proceeding at a rapid pace thanks to the efforts of its people and leader. At the end of the negotiations, Kadyrov invited the president to visit the republic.

Civil service
In 1999, Akhmat, together with his son, went over to the side of the Russian federal troops and began to confront their former comrades from that moment, and Ramzan’s path to the post of President of the Chechen Republic began:
- In 2000, he became a member of a special police unit whose task was to ensure the security of the republic's top leadership. Thus began his public service. Two years later, Kadyrov became a company commander. During this period, Ramzan's influence in the territory gradually increased; he was responsible for conducting special operations and negotiations with militants. Kadyrov also fought with the remnants of enemy combat formations. During this period, at least five attempts were made on his life.
- After Akhmat Kadyrov was appointed head of the Chechen Republic, his son became the head of his own security service. At the same time, Kadyrov Jr. held a number of important government positions, for example, assistant minister of internal affairs.
- In 2004, Akhmat Kadyrov was killed, and his son took over as first deputy prime minister of Chechnya. A year later he held the position of... O. Chairman of the Government of the Republic. The year 2006 will be remembered for the conflict that arose between Kadyrov and President Alkhanov. The leader of the state was supported by units of the federation, and Kadyrov was supported by his loyal soldiers of his personal company. At the beginning of 2007, Alkhanov resigned, which was accepted by Vladimir Putin. Kadyrov nominated his candidacy for the post of President of Chechnya. It was supported and approved by both Vladimir Putin and the Chechen parliament.
Position of President
The first direction that the politician took on as president was the issuance of decrees aimed at combating terrorism . The results were amazing: two years later, the number of terrorist attacks in the Chechen Republic was halved. The country finally became calm, the long-awaited peace reigned.
The new president was actively involved in restoring the country and eliminating the consequences of the Chechen wars, this was especially noticeable in Grozny. New infrastructure facilities began to open. The capital was filled with new iconic architectural objects. The source of large-scale construction was support from the Russian state budget and the Ramzan Kadyrov Foundation. For his activities as President of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Akhmatovich was awarded the title of “Hero of the Russian Federation” and the Order of “Service to the Fatherland” and other awards and titles.
The years of his reign are marked by the Islamization of the country. The head of state himself opened the Islamic University in the city of Grozny, as well as the “Heart of Chechnya” mosque.
In addition, the politician personally supports many historically important traditions of Chechnya. So he repeatedly appeared at various celebrations and official events in national costumes. In addition, the president likes to spend his leisure time riding horses, which served as the basis for the emergence of rumors. A rumor was started that he had fallen from his horse and broken his neck. Soon the politician denied this information.
But at the same time, Kadyrov, as president, showed himself in a different light. Military personnel who worked closely with the head of state were repeatedly accused of murders and kidnappings of citizens of their own country.
Proof of this is the information provided by the human rights organization Memorial, according to which, during 2006-2008, 256 cases of kidnappings were officially registered in the Chechen Republic. Fifteen of whom died as a result.
The legal organization Human Rights Watch argued that methods of “collective punishment” of citizens are flourishing in the Chechen Republic. For disobedience, the houses of all members of his family and close people could be burned. Also, journalists working in Chechnya were repeatedly attacked and received threats. The head of the Chechen Republic himself claims that such attacks are slander, and there is not a grain of truth in them.
In 2011, the Chechen parliament re-elected Ramzan Akhmatovich to the post of president of the country. According to Kadyrov himself, he was able to achieve so much thanks to the support of Vladimir Putin. He considers the president “the savior of the people of Chechnya.”
In 2020, the Levada research center conducted a survey, the results of which showed that about 65% of the Russian population trusts the president of the country. Most citizens believe that it was he who became the key to the emergence of peaceful life in the Caucasus.
Ramzan Kadyrov now
On January 13, 2020, Ramzan Akhmatovich signed a decree on the temporary appointment of Muslim Khuchiev to the post of head of Chechnya. Rumors appeared in the media that Kadyrov resigned from his post in connection with further promotion.
After the resignation of the Russian government led by Dmitry Medvedev, speculation arose that the Chechen leader was preparing to receive the post of representative of the Russian president. In an interview, Ramzan assured that there would be no resignation and that he plans to end his political career in his native republic.

Muslim Khuchiev and Ramzan Kadyrov
According to Kadyrov, he is going to organize an advisory council in Grozny, which he will later lead. Later it became known that the head had temporarily stepped aside from his duties due to undergoing a course of treatment. For many years, Ramzan Akhmatovich has been working without vacation or weekends, which could not but affect his health.
News about the change of government in Russia did not pass by Ramzan Akhmatovich. Through social networks, he congratulated the current Prime Minister of the Russian Federation on his appointment and wished Mikhail Mishustin the implementation of all planned plans to improve the socio-economic sphere in the country.
Personal life
In Ramzan Akhmatovich’s family life everything is as good as in politics. As a young man, he began a relationship with a girl from his native village, whom he married in 2004. His wife's name is Medni Musaevna Kadyrova. The girl, as the first lady of Chechnya, regularly attends important state events and does charity work.
Ramzan and Medni had 10 children in their marriage:
- six daughters - Aishat, Ashura, Karina, Hedi, Tabarik and Eishat;
- four sons - Abdullah, Adam, Akhmat and Zelimkhan.
Kadyrov and his wife also raise two adopted sons, who were officially adopted by Kadyrov’s mother, since he was forbidden to raise teenagers due to the age difference. Aimani adopted the first boy, 16-year-old Victor (after Visit), in 2006 at the request of Ramzan. A year later, she took another fifteen-year-old teenager as her son. So officially Kadyrov is raising his half-brothers. Taking this into account, there are 12 children in the family - six girls and the same number of boys.
Having many children in a family is normal for the peoples of the South Caucasus. Medni gave birth to her last child in 2020 and the couple is not going to stop there yet. Ramzan believes that there should be as many children as God gives, and his wife supports him in this. The entire family, including Kadyrov’s wife, mother and children, lives together in a large house, which indicates the financial security of the clan.
In 2012, Medni Kadyrova realized herself as a designer and opened her own fashion house “Firdaws”. The brand became the first fashion house engaged in the design and production of national clothing of the Czech Republic. Only Chechen designers produce their collections under the name of the brand. The assortment ranges from luxurious, expensive outfits to affordable clothes for every day. One of the fashion designers and managers of the fashion house is the eldest daughter of the couple, Aishat.
Medni claims that he will be calm if Ramzan marries several more women. Sharia law allows Caucasians to marry up to 4 times, but only with the permission of the first wife. The head of the Chechen Republic himself repeatedly asserted that for the second time he could only marry a woman superior to Medni in beauty and intelligence. But in 15 years of marriage, he never met such a girl.
But at the same time, every now and then there are news reports that Kadyrov has a second wife. The girl's name is Fatima and at the time of her civil marriage she was only 18 years old. It is impossible to formalize such a wedding according to Russian laws, and the ceremony has not yet taken place.
Also, the media constantly attribute various love affairs to Ramzan. The loudest was Ksenia Sobchak’s statement in 2013 that Kadyrov was vacationing with TV presenter Tina Kandelaki in Dubai, and their relationship had long gone beyond friendship. Ramzan, in response to such attacks from journalists, says that accusations of him having a mistress and being unfaithful to his wife are lies that have no basis. However, this sparked rumors about them as a couple for many years to come.
Wedding of Ramzan Kadyrov
Ramzan Kadyrov's wedding took place in 1996. The celebration was rich. Although Ramzan himself was just starting his political career and, in fact, didn’t really have anything yet, his father arranged for him a luxurious wedding with a fellow villager.
And although it is now believed that the current president of the Chechen Republic has many women, he has only one official wife - the one who married him at the very beginning of his political career. He has no other official wives. But Ramzan Kadyrov doesn’t seem to need anyone else. He is quite happy with Medni, who, in turn, gave her man many children.
Friendly relations with Timati
Kadyrov honors with his special affection not only his family, but also other people close to him, colleagues and friends. Ramzan Akhmatovich has a strong friendship with rap artist Timati; he has repeatedly called him brother.
The personality of the rapper, as well as the head of Chechnya, has repeatedly been at the center of scandals. One of these occurred in 2014, when he accused another performer, Dima Bilan, of using drugs. Timur Yusupov (the rapper’s real name) had no evidence or basis for his statements. Because of this, a noisy scandal broke out, during which Dmitry Bilan was supported by Yana Rudkovskaya.
Kadyrov supported Timati’s side and stated that, in his opinion, the performer has every reason to bring such accusations against Bilan, since he himself leads a more diligent and healthy lifestyle. In response to counter statements, Timur said that he agreed to undergo any tests to check for the presence of narcotic substances in his body. This finally convinced Ramzan that he was right.
At the height of the scandal, as a sign of solidarity, the president awarded the performer the title of Honored Artist of the Chechen Republic.
President's life now
He has held his position for 17 consecutive years. According to the results of a survey conducted at the beginning of 2020, more than 65% of citizens trust the president of the country and note that he has made a huge contribution to restoring a peaceful, decent life for the residents of the Caucasus . Among other things, Kadyrov is the head of the Boxing Federation, goes in for sports and runs pages on Instagram and VKontakte. The popularity of the politician is also associated with his active life position and maintenance of national traditions.
