Sergei Lvovich Rogozhin: biography, career and personal life

Biography

Sergei Rogozhin is a Soviet and Russian singer, tenor, actor, Honored Artist of Russia, whose popularity peaked in the late 1980s - mid-1990s, when he was the lead singer of the popular groups "AuktYon" and "Forum". He starred in the popular “cop” series “Streets of Broken Lanterns” and “Liteiny, 4.” In 1998 he became an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation.

Childhood and youth

The artist was born at the end of the summer of 1963 in Balti, the second largest city in the republic after Chisinau. There were no musicians or actors in the Rogozhin family: his father was an investigator at the prosecutor’s office, his mother taught French at school.

Sergei Rogozhin did not grow up alone - the artist has a sister, Natasha. Sergei spent his early childhood in Balti. The family moved to neighboring Ukraine and settled in Zaporozhye, where the son went to school. There the boy’s musical talents were discovered: at the age of 6, little Sergei sang in a children’s choir and listened to his first applause.

Rogozhin’s innate artistry found development in the local Theater for Young Spectators, which operated an actor’s studio. Coming onto the stage of the Zaporozhye Youth Theater, enjoying the attention of the audience and the spotlight, Sergei dreamed of becoming a musical theater actor. After graduating from school, he went to Moscow, but the capital resisted the pressure of the ambitious young man: three times Rogozhin was denied the right to become a student at a theater university.

Chance helped. A member of the examination committee was a representative of the St. Petersburg theater university - LGITMiK. She invited Sergei Rogozhin, saddened by his third failure, to try his hand at the city on the Neva.

The northern capital turned out to be more “accommodating” than Moscow: Rogozhin entered, but soon transferred to the directing department of the Institute of Culture. N. Krupskaya. In 1987, he gave a diploma of higher education to his mother, who dreamed of him almost more than her son.

Musician Sergei Rogozhin: “The reasons for everything that happens inside us”

They say fate is like a river. And changeable like a river. The water in the river of destiny is always renewed depending on how we live every day, day after day. We adjust our lives and future every day, making one or another decision from many different and equally possible ones. The role of chance in our decision making is of great importance.

And although the flowing waters are constantly renewed, the direction of the flow was set initially. Someone? Something?

TV presenter Svetlana Solntseva, author of the “Nothing by Chance” program, is convinced that everything happens exactly like this or something like this... But she is ready to seek the truth together with the guests of her program, confirming or challenging her main thesis that nothing happens by chance in life.

Singer, musician, member of the rock group “AuktYon” and a successful businessman, Honored Artist of Russia Sergei Rogozhin is today’s interlocutor of Svetlana Solntseva. I wonder what a person who is as successful in the material world as he is talented on stage thinks about the predetermination of fate? It is very interesting how Sergei thinks - did he build himself or is everything he achieved a chain of predetermined accidents aimed at achieving his highest self-realization? Isn’t this the meaning of human existence - to achieve your greatest development and fulfill the highest role destined for you?

Svetlana Solntseva and Sergei Rogozhin

“It seems to me that we are all connected, and that in general our whole life, all our actions, everything that happens, this whole world is absolutely clearly based on cause-and-effect relationships,” the popular singer shares his thoughts. - Every effect, everything that happens has a cause. But our biggest misconception is that we think that external reasons are “to blame” for everything - nothing like that! All the main reasons for everything that happens to us are within us. Therefore, what we model for ourselves inside is what we get as a result. And I will tell you honestly and frankly: for as long as I can remember, I have always had two dominant thoughts: I knew that I would be rich and famous. For some reason this thought was always in my head.

Nothing comes together apart from us, nothing. It just seems to us that we have nothing to do with it. I'll tell you a joke. A husband and wife are divorcing. They are asked: “What is the reason for your divorce?” The wife answers the judge: “You know, our relationship somehow didn’t work out.” The judge says to her: “Can I ask you a question? Tell me, please, where were you when they were folded?” This means that we put everything together ourselves. Each of us is in his place: you are in yours, I am in mine. But we came to this place with our own feet.

My own director

Sergei Rogozhin was born in Moldova in the family of a Belitsky lawyer and a French teacher. Over time, the family moved to Zaporozhye, where Sergei graduated from high school. By the will of His Majesty Chance, from the age of 6 he performed on stage and sang in a children's choir. Then he studied at the actor’s studio at the Theater for Young Spectators. In 1987 he graduated from the Leningrad State Institute of Culture named after Krupskaya with a degree in director. He worked as an artist at the Zaporozhye Youth Theater. Then there were the groups “AuktYon”, “Hunting for Romantic Them”, “Forum”, awards for a wonderful tenor, roles in films and consulting on financial life planning.

The episode deserves special attention, thanks to which the gifted and ambitious preschooler Seryozha Rogozhin ended up on the big stage, just as he dreamed of. Isn’t this that happy accident, isn’t this the most powerful projection of inner aspiration onto the external side of reality, isn’t this the very ticket to a real adult artistic life, for which, perhaps, this person was born?

Svetlana Solntseva and Sergei Rogozhin

“This is a very interesting story,” Sergei chuckles. — During my childhood, the Georgian singer Irma Sokhadze was very popular, who sang an orange song: “Orange sky, orange mother, orange children sing orange songs.” And, apparently, “at the top” it was decided that each region should have its own singing child. We lived then in Moldova. And a selection committee went to kindergartens, recruiting children for this project...

...Do I need to explain that it was little Rogozhin who was chosen from Moldova... We learned a song with him, came up with the idea that he would perform in a national costume - in bloomers, a shirt, an embroidered vest, boots and a hat. But here’s the catch - they couldn’t find hats of such a small size anywhere... And they didn’t have time to sew them - the concert was just around the corner. What is a performance for an artist without a costume?! And Sergei found the missing part himself. Or the hat found Sergei - who knows... Another proof that what should happen will definitely happen.

“I’m ashamed to talk about this!” – admits Sergei. “But I hope that they will forgive me.” We lived then on the main street of the urban-type village of Lazovsk, in a house with neighbors. I don’t remember why I went to the neighbors. They just had it open and no one. And... there on the table lay that same hat - my pass into the life of an artist. And I had no one to ask whether I could take it or not. I took it...

And so he remained on stage. As a child, he even took part in concerts with Lyudmila Zykina. Then he grew up, came up to her, reminded her of his past with her...

…But getting into university didn’t work out for a long time. For three years he studied in Moscow to become a musical theater actor (in the future this will be music hall, operetta, opera, drama theater, that is, a synthetic version of the artist’s demand). In GITIS. Until the incident happened again.

“After the exam, a lady came out of the audience and called me,” recalls Sergei. “I’ve just come from a commission meeting,” says the lady, “and I want to tell you a secret that you didn’t pass.” I answer her: “Why did you tell me this?” She: “Why? I came here from St. Petersburg. Come to us, you will pass.” That’s how I ended up in the city on the Neva. And suddenly he went to directing. Everyone looked at me incredulously and said: “Listen, won’t you leave us later and go back to acting?” I say: “No, I have already firmly decided for myself, that’s all.” Well, in general, I graduated wonderfully with a degree in directing. Subsequently, I gave the diploma to my mother because she dreamed of a higher education for her son. And he began to sing again. And direct all his performances himself. And this is still true. Of course, there are people who help, who host the concert. But as for the idea, implementation, concept, and so on, it’s all always mine. Starting from costumes, ending with decorations and makeup. I’m already silent about the repertoire. But people say: “This is the level.”

And in general, when they ask me why I needed this director’s diploma, I answer that I am the director of my life. For myself, I realized a simple truth: we make all the right decisions and right actions only in a state of comfort. As soon as we are irritated, angry, negative, we make mistakes and do wrong. This is absolutely true. You know, a wonderful phrase from the Bible: “Do what you must, and come what may.” This is how I understand it: you decided for yourself what should be done. Do it. The rest is not your concern, THERE will figure out how and what will happen next. I'm sure everything will be fine if you do what you should. But, alas, it is impossible to always be in a state of comfort and balance. Like, for example, eating Sachertorte every day. But you must strive to the top.

Svetlana Solntseva and Sergei Rogozhin

And I completely agree that life consists of natural accidents. If you remember “The Master and Margarita,” then Woland utters a phrase that explains everything: “A brick doesn’t just fall on anyone’s head.” Therefore, whatever happens in our lives, firstly, it always happens in the best way for us, although sometimes it seems to us that this is unfair. This is wrong! Everything that happens to us is fair. But our trouble is that we confuse human justice and the justice of higher powers. It seems to us that we were treated unfairly by human standards. And those who look from there know that we have learned a lesson. Another thing is that not everyone passes it. Then I went back to the school of unlearned lessons! But if you pass it, it means you rise another step and move on in life.

Every time we are free to choose our own reaction to this or that. This is very important. What is between the stimulus and the reaction? Our choice of reaction. Let's say you were hit, the choice of your reaction to this is huge, and not just immediately cry.

The less time and effort you spend choosing a response, the higher your emotional competence. This is work and an important task. Then you will be high and in harmony. And you will begin to make the right decisions, remember, we already talked about this?

We came into this life to rejoice. In any case, that’s exactly what I said to everyone around me: I came to rejoice and give joy. And eat Sachertorte as often as possible.
