“I feel cool and comfortable at the cinema”: Interview with Vitalia Kornienko

The young actress told KinoReporter about filming the series “Julbars,” stunts without understudies, and how to make the holiday unforgettable during quarantine.

Vitalia Kornienko was born on May 18, 2010 in Moscow. And he has been acting in films and TV series for 8 years. Behind her fragile shoulders there are almost 80 projects, which does not prevent her from playing the ukulele, learning foreign languages and doing well in school.

— Did you want to become an actress yourself?

— When I first got into cinema, I had just turned 2 years old. I was just walking with my mother and waiting for my older sister from filming. They noticed me there and invited me to film. I remember very well how I said: “Dya!” It was great! But if I just now had a chance to act in a movie for the first time, I would also answer: yes, I really want to!

— Is your older sister Veronica also an actress? And did you act together?

— Yes, Nika and I starred in my very first film - the short film “Makaroshka” by Yulia Saponova, and in the series “And the Ball Will Return” we played the same heroine at different ages.

— Do you remember your very first day of filming?

- Yes, of course, I remember. Nika and I were doing something on the tablet while rearranging. And how the director set us a task, and then filmed us, sitting in the bushes so that we wouldn’t see her.

— Are there any stories from filming that you like to remember?

“I really love doing my own stunts, and my most vivid memories are mostly associated with them. For example, when I fell into a mountain river in December, then they sent me to warm up, but I still wanted to go into the river. When I trained myself to perform a trick every day by putting my face in ice water. When I was descending from the third floor balcony on a sheet and there was a strong wind, I was dangling because I am very light, and the stuntmen were holding me on the ropes with all their might. When we were filming on Lake Baikal and I had to walk to the car, but it was difficult to maintain the desired trajectory because it was blowing in the opposite direction... I have a lot of such stories.

— You gave your voice to young Anna in Frozen 2 and Eva Green’s daughter in Proxima. Do you enjoy voicing other young actresses?

— I like both playing roles and voicing them. But when you play yourself and dubbing are completely different things. In cinema, you need to understand, feel, convey to the viewer, become the character you play. In dubbing, if it is a film, then it must not be spoiled, but somewhere, if the director says, even correct it in the voice of the actor who played in the project. And in cartoons - live the story with your voice and color the character of the cartoon character. This is all interesting to me.

— Do you prefer to act in TV series or feature films?

“I really like just the filming process itself.” It's either a short film or a series... I love filming. Cinema is the place where I feel cool and comfortable.

— Does your family support you?

- Certainly! Always and in all my endeavors.

— You have films or TV series coming out one after another. Is it difficult to combine with studying at school?

- It’s not difficult, I can do everything. I like it when the whole day is planned out, then it turns out to be very busy and active.

- Is there any time left to just be a girl, meet your friends, and fool around?

- And I’m just a girl. I have time for everything.

— Are your classmates supportive or jealous of your fame?

- Don't know. I'm not saying I'm acting in a movie. Who knows, he knows, I try not to even support conversations on this topic at school. Cinema is my favorite thing and my hobby. Some people go in for dancing, some for swimming, some for hockey, and I act in films.

- Do they recognize you on the street?

- It happens sometimes. And it's nice.

— What do you like to do in your free time?

— Almost all my free time is also related to cinema: either I shoot, or edit, or write scripts, or come up with makeup, or do something related to cinema. In between, I learn English, I started learning Spanish, I took up speedcubing, I read, I try to play the ukulele, I talk with friends, I draw, I like to take on something new and something that I don’t know how to do yet.

— Do you love animals, do you have pets?

- Yes, I have a toy terrier Klepa, she is older than me. When I was younger, I called her Cleopatra, and she called her Cleopatra. (Laughs.)

On the set of the series “Dzhulbars” for Channel One / Producer

— In the new series “Julbars” you have many scenes with a dog, did you like working together?

- Yes, of course, he is very good. When we first met, Dzhulbars looked at me to see what I was like, how I interacted with other dogs, and then at the beginning of each shift he ran up to me and licked me. We became very good friends. And by the way, our friendship did not end on the set of “Dzhulbars”. We recently met again on another set, both he and I had grown up. And he recognized me, it was unusual.

— Are you going to become an actress or do you have other plans for the future?

— I definitely want to become an actress and director, or producer, or someone else related to cinema, there are a lot of professions, and I like all of it.

— Your favorite actor or actress?

— If we talk about those with whom I acted, whom I know, then, of course, there are people who have become very dear to me. They probably know about this. But I think it would be wrong to name them. After all, if I say about one person, the others will be offended. In general, I am very lucky to have partners on sites.

With Alexander Petrov / TASS

— May 18th is your birthday. The first anniversary is 10 years. Do you already have plans for how you will celebrate it?

“I was really looking forward to it.” A little different. But... Since it’s quarantine, I’ll take a glass, pour something like buckwheat and rice into it, and stick candles in toilet paper. (Laughs.) I’ll shoot an interesting video or do a photo shoot. I will celebrate as positively as possible with my very best. It will be a memorable anniversary birthday!

— What did you give yourself as a gift?

- Let the congratulations be a surprise.

- What do you dream about?

- It's a secret. But so far everything I wanted is coming true.
