Yulia Mayboroda: creativity and personal life of the actress

Biography

Yulia Mayboroda was born on the Don into a multinational, intelligent and highly educated family. The life and fate of each of her ancestors deserves special attention. The actress herself talks about her origins like this: “My surname is typically Ukrainian. “May, may” - to have. Apparently, I had a bearded ancestor. My great-grandfather (whose last name I bear) on my father’s side is from Poltava. After the war, he built an automobile plant in Dnepropetrovsk, got married, became the chief engineer there, and then was transferred to Moscow. My grandfather Oleg Mayboroda is a candidate of technical sciences, teaches at MADI, my grandmother (originally from Yaroslavl) is a journalist, my father is a philosopher and inventor.

On my mother’s side, my great-grandmother is Greek, my great-grandfather, her husband, a Russian, a customs officer, received a medal for zeal from the hands of Nicholas II. I know that they had an unearthly love and a big age difference: great-grandmother Concordia Kararadis was 20 years younger than Stepan Sadovsky! They had a son - my grandfather Kirill, a very talented man, knew seven languages, played the piano beautifully, and was a journalist in Rostov-on-Don. My grandfather taught me drawing, physics, and algebra from the age of five. Apparently, I overdid it: already as a child I realized that I was a pure humanitarian. Grandmother, Don Cossack, biochemist. Mom is an artist."

Julia grew up and was brought up among smart and gifted people. It is not surprising that in early childhood she discovered her talent as an artist. The girl drew beautifully and successfully graduated from art school. However, she did not want to continue her career as an artist in the future. For more complete self-expression, she lacked a canvas, and most importantly, a viewer. The girl needed to see an immediate reaction to her work, for which the theater was ideal. That is why Julia decided to try her hand at acting.

On her first attempt, the girl managed to enroll in the Shchukin Higher Theater School for the course of M. A. Panteleeva, whom she remembers with warmth: “I will always be grateful to Marina Aleksandrovna Panteleeva, my beloved artistic director: she was gentle, patient, wise, and when you need it tough, straight. She was the one who gave me a chance and took me to her course. I pulled out a lucky ticket, but did not understand that I would have to prove my right to it more than once. During the training process, many were expelled, 38 people were accepted to the course, 25 received diplomas. I had to change a lot in myself, some things were difficult. But the more valuable they became to me.”

Family and children of Yulia Mayboroda

The family and children of Yulia Mayboroda have not yet appeared. The film star has officially stated more than once in her interviews that she should give birth to her beloved man, who has not yet met the girl on her way. This was the reason that she has not yet become the mother of a baby.

Recently, on her Instagram page, a girl posted a photo in which she is sitting with her child. But this was the son of one of the artist’s friends. She baptized the boy. Julia often visits her godson, considering this to be the purpose of a real godmother.

Parents had a significant influence on their daughter. They were very popular people in the art world. Mom and dad painted pictures. They also played in several films.

The film star’s grandfather on my mother’s side was involved in journalism. He could speak seven languages. Grandma was engaged in science. She worked in the biochemical field all her life.

The paternal grandparents were also involved in raising their granddaughter. My grandmother's area of interest was journalism, and my grandfather's was teaching.

Theater

Having received the coveted diploma from a prestigious theater university in 2002, the aspiring actress went in search of “her” stage. “Like any group, different people work in the theater, each theater has its own special atmosphere,” explains the artist. “For me, first of all, the opportunity for creative growth is important, and for this it is necessary to find not only “my” theater group, but also “my” theater director.”

Over the course of ten years, Julia changed several theaters. On the stage of the Tragifars Theater she played Clementine in Grigory Gorin’s play “Forget Herostratus” (directed by A. Mamadakov). Then she moved to the theater “At the Nikitsky Gate” directed by Mark Rozovsky, where she was offered the role of Lyuda in “The Romance of Girls” by Vladimir Vysotsky (directed by Mark Rozovsky).

Later there was an attempt to join the troupe of the Satyricon theater. The actress even began rehearsals for the play “Country of Love” based on the play “The Snow Maiden” by A.N. Ostrovsky, directed by Konstantin Raikin. However, it did not come to the premiere. The artistic director of the Moscow Drama Theater named after Ruben Simonov, Vyacheslav Shalevich, invited the artist to immediately join the troupe and play the main roles. Julia says: “I realized that this was mine, and agreed. But she didn’t appear on the stage of the Satyricon Theater; due to her busy schedule, she had to make a choice. One of my favorite roles at the Simonov Theater was Princess Budur in the fairy tale “Aladdin’s Magic Lamp.”

Roles at the Moscow Drama Theater named after Ruben Simonov:

  • “Valentin and Valentina” (M. Roshchin), dir. E. Livnev - Valentina
  • “The girl sang in the church choir” (E. Fedotov), (post. V. Shalevich) - Girl Lida (young Lidia Ruslanova)
  • “Aladdin’s Magic Lamp” (M. Vorontsov, V. Shalevich), dir. B. Povolotsky - Princess Budur
  • “Demgorodok” (Yu. Polyakov), dir. A. Gorban - Elena

Husband of Yulia Mayboroda

The film actress does not yet have a beloved man whom she would like to marry. The artist tries not to talk about this in her interviews. She carefully avoids talking about her personal life.

Recently, our heroine shared information about what the future husband of Yulia Mayboroda should be like. He must understand her and support her on all issues. A man can have any profession. The most important thing is that he finds time for a relationship with the woman he loves and future children.

In 2020, a number of media outlets wrote that Yulia finally got married. This was later denied by the woman herself. She announced that this might happen in the near future. But she did not reveal the name of her chosen one.

Cinema

The actress first appeared on screen in 2005 in the TV series “Passion in Cinema.” This funny comedy about how films are made helped the artist gain invaluable experience working on camera. Yulia recalls: “Starting in it at the very beginning of my film career, I got the opportunity to see the whole “kitchen” from the inside.”

Later, the actress played Hortense Beauharnais, Josephine’s adopted daughter, in the adventurous detective film Adjutants of Love and lawyer Elena Dyakova in Peter Stein’s crime drama The Zone.

"Black Goddess"

In parallel with “Adjutants of Love,” Yulia Mayboroda made her debut in the leading role. Her heroine was the beautiful Camilla in the melodrama “Black Goddess” by Leonid Belozorovich. The actress says about her character: “In “Black Goddess” my heroine has a very dramatic “slant”. This is a girl who is going through life’s difficulties that are not childish; even an adult cannot survive them. Here the difficulty lies precisely in the perception of the circumstances: the situation is constantly heating up, and it is not clear what will happen to the heroine in the finale.

In some places I tried to make her better than me, cleaner, with a more open view of the world, more sincere. But they wrote her in the script in such a way that she is a girl quite spoiled by her rich father.”

On the set, the artist worked with Maria Glazkova, Sergei Astakhov, Igor Stam, Oleg Gushchin, Stanislav Erdley, Lyudmila Nilskaya and many other actors. But she has the warmest memories of the two. “First of all, this is my “father” Oleg Gushchin,” Yulia clarifies. “I have a very good relationship with him.” Then, Igor Stam - it’s very easy to work with him, because a person sees a partner. The most important thing, it seems to me, is when a person does not pull the blanket over himself, but when he sees his partner and helps him, then a good overall picture is obtained.”

Successful, bright work in “Black Goddess” gave a good start to the artist’s cinematic career. She began to be invited to lead roles in top-rated TV series. Thus, Yulia played the prima of the provincial theater Maya in Pavel Ignatov’s melodrama “By the Law of Attraction”, Dasha in Vladimir Popkov’s mystical action film “Kill the Snake”, Nastya in Sergei Mezentsev’s melodrama “Cream”, an artist in Igor Voitulevich’s detective story “Tango with an Angel”.

"The war ended yesterday"

In 2011, the actress appeared on screen in a new role. She played the role of an ambitious communist, the chairman of a collective farm in Vladimir Balkashinov’s series “The War Ended Yesterday.” In one of the interviews, the artist spoke about the storyline of the film and her heroine: “The action takes place in the village of Maryino in the spring of 1945. This is a story about how people awaken after the horrors of war, love, hate, forgive, and try to build a new life. Katerina, a young, selfless communist, comes to the village and, by appointment of the district party committee, becomes the chairman of the collective farm.

My heroine is a naive, angular girl, having gone through many trials, having known love, she hardens, blossoms, becomes a strong woman, and achieves the trust and respect of the entire village. It was interesting for me to immerse myself in the atmosphere of that time, a time of genuine feelings, strong and deep, which only truly open and bright people can experience.”

The film also featured: Elena Dudina, Anatoly Rudenko, Nikolai Ivanov, Lyubov Rudenko and other artists. But the soul of the entire film crew was, of course, the most talented actor, People's Artist of the USSR Bogdan Stupka, who played the role of the former chairman, Fyodor, whose place is taken by Katerina.

According to the script, Katerina and Fyodor developed a very complex relationship. In almost every scene, the actors portrayed open conflict. And Yulia was amazed at how quickly her experienced colleague could get out of character and reassemble in front of the “Motor!” team.

“Bogdan Silvestrovich, stern in the frame, is such a sunny, open person in life! – the artist shares. “I was amazed by his ability to switch instantly. This is “aerobatics”, which speaks of high skill. For me, working with him is a good school, and also joy and pleasure. Bogdan Silvestrovich treated me very carefully during filming and could always suggest something if a scene didn’t work out, and praise me if it was well played.”

In recent years, several interesting multi-genre projects have been released with the participation of the actress. She starred in Murad Aliyev’s action-packed adventure film “Marines” (Natasha), based on real events; played Lisa in Sergei Bystritsky’s comedy “The Unlucky Daughter-in-Law”; in the multi-part family drama by Igor Voitulevich “Mistress of My Destiny” she played the role of the French woman Claire.

Julia also took part in such popular TV series as: “Karpov”, “Wild-3”, “Interns”. And in 2013, the artist played translator Irina Severskaya in the melodrama Serious Relationships by Vladimir and Olga Basov, based on Anna Berseneva’s novel Seriously Flirting.

In total, the actress’s filmography includes about forty works. She continues to actively star in TV series and feature films.

Interview

About roles and acting profession

“All the roles played become family. In the process of working on a role, the one you live in at the moment is dear and loved. But there are also those who stay with you forever and can even influence your character and worldview. These roles are my favorite. Roles that required more “blood” and emotional investment. This is Lena (TV series “The Zone. Prison Romance”), Valentina (from the play “Valentin and Valentina”), Yulia Dugina (TV series “Tango with an Angel”), Maya (film “Created for Each Other”), Katerina (TV series “Tango with an Angel”) Yesterday the war ended)..."

“A normal acting existence is when the actor is not completely satisfied with himself - only then will he strive for better. I would work and redo everything a million times.”

About the series

“If TV series are being filmed, it means someone needs it. This is a popular genre. There are people who are interested in tracing a person’s fate day by day, little by little. My friends and my grandmothers watch TV series, and for them it is an integral part of life. The film, no matter how good it was, passed and that’s it. And they need to empathize with the characters every day and discuss something. And if life lacks some thrills, they can get them, they can learn to be philosophical about their lives by watching someone else’s.”

About theater and cinema

“With today’s frantic pace of filming, the only opportunity to search, rehearse, and think about a role is in the theater. On the set you need results, you have to “mature” quickly. The theater “nourishes” the actor, gives the opportunity to grow, rehearse, move forward, find new facets and shades of the image. On stage you feel the “breath” of the audience. There is such silence as a sponge, not a single rustle, the audience eagerly absorbs every word, every movement. And sometimes chairs squeak, someone’s phone rings, the rustle of a chocolate wrapper is heard, and then you need to do everything to overcome this situation. This is good training.

As for the filming process, it is more exciting and often requires improvisation, but with such seeming freedom, you need to work even more “jewelly”, especially in close-ups. I would compare cinema with painting, and theater with sculpture. In the theater we need a different plasticity, a more powerful “message”. Well, naturally, when you act, you are offered more roles in the theater, more opportunities appear. And every artist wants to be in demand.”

“If I were offered a choice, I would definitely refuse. I love the theater, I want to work in the theater - and I want to act. This may sound a bit greedy, but it is true. I want to keep up with everything, because these are very different things - both in the rehearsal process and as a result.

It would seem that we invest more in the theater: long rehearsals, run-throughs, you have to play the same thing over and over again, and you get tired, but in cinema there are not so many costs, the process is not so long, and the return is greater. I realized that the returns are completely different: you can simply listen to the applause or communicate with a living person who empathizes with you. It is in this genre, it seems to me, more than in any other, that people perceive you as if you were their neighbor, a girl they knew. This is, of course, amazing.”

About favorite books and the benefits of knowledge

“Lately I’ve been loving the Strugatskys, I really like science fiction, oddly enough. Girls usually prefer novels, but I read about the future with some kind of philosophical overtones. Sometimes I read the classics—things that I didn’t have time to cover during my studies. An age comes when it becomes much more interesting to you than at school or college. Clearer, more important and more necessary. It seems to me that every book is for its own period in life.”

“As for interest in other cultures, of course, I have it, like any normal person. I am fascinated by the sculpture of Ancient Greece, I like Ukrainian songs, ancient and modern, Japanese graphics are interesting... The more I learn, the more I feel how little my knowledge is. And you need to expand your horizons and learn throughout your life. My polyglot grandfather loved to quote Socrates: “I only know that I know nothing.” Of course, an actor needs a broad outlook. Everything that the actor sees and feels adds up to a “piggy bank,” and the greater this “accumulation,” the richer and deeper the images created.”

Life credo of the actress

“No matter what happens, you have to keep your tail like a gun and your nose to the wind, and be optimistic about life.”
