Famous actor, Georgy Yumatov biography, whose personal life is incredibly interesting - a true nugget. He had no special education. He could easily get used to any role. It always happened incredibly organically.

Yumatov is a hero of the Great Patriotic War. The actor managed to survive and return from the front. There are many tragic moments in the biography of this person beloved by the people. Ultimately, these sad circumstances led to his early death.

Childhood and youth of the actor

Yumatov Georgy Alexandrovich was born in Moscow. This happened in 1926. He is Russian by nationality, a native Muscovite. The future actor constantly dreamed of the distant seas. The parents tried their best to support their son in his aspirations. Since childhood, he wanted to become a real sailor in order to tirelessly sail the sea. Yumatov decided to make his dream come true. In his youth, he was actively involved in boxing and athletics. This was necessary to develop endurance and strength.

Georgy Alexandrovich enters the naval school. But, as you can read on Wikipedia, everything suddenly changes. The war begins. A year passes, and young Yumatov has to go to the front. He serves on the torpedo boat Brave. On this ship, the future actor managed to go through a difficult battle path.

"Brave" liberated cities. For special services, Yumatov was awarded the order. Georgy Alexandrovich repeatedly found himself on the brink of death. But he always managed to stay alive even behind enemy lines.

1970-1980s. "Officers".

Already in the 1970s, Yumatov’s fame began to wane... He was invited to act less and less often - also because of his notoriety - because the artist was constantly in code, then broke down... He would let him down - the directors thought - and they called others, more reliable. Although in 1971 the film “Officers” was shot, which for some time returned the actor to his former popularity.

It is interesting that at the time the filming of the film began, the relationship between Georgy Yumatov and Vasily Lanov was by no means friendly. Once upon a time, back in the late 1950s, Georgy was invited to audition for the film “Pavel Korchagin”, and Lanovoy was eventually approved. Yumatov did not forget this. However, in the process of working together, the actors not only made peace, but actually became close friends.

Alina Pokrovskaya, who played the wife of Alexei Trofimov (the role of Yumatov), admitted that on the set of “Officers” there was a very special atmosphere of friendliness and mutual understanding. Both co-stars immediately liked the young actress, and they began, either jokingly or seriously, to court her, and were even jealous of each other. There was no romance with Yumatov as such - especially since Krepkogorskaya, who played in the episode, was present on the set. But, nevertheless, Georgy enjoyed playing at being a family (after all, in the story, his hero has a son). At least this way he realized the dream of children, which never came true in reality...

In the 1980s, fewer and fewer people were invited to act, but even during this period there were several iconic roles - for example, in the film “Proceed with Liquidation” or the TV series “TASS Is Authorized to Declare.”

Carier start

After the war ended, Yumatov came to Moscow. One day he went to a cafe to have lunch. Here he was seen absolutely by accident by the then famous director Georgy Alexandrov. He was attracted by Georgy Alexandrovich's appearance, height 175 centimeters and expressive face. He offered Yumatov a cameo role. The future actor was very surprised, but still accepted the director’s offer. Initially the roles were very small. So in the film “Ivan the Terrible” he managed to very successfully transform into a monk typical of that time. In the famous film “Private Alexander Matrosov” he played the role of an ordinary soldier. Yumatov starred in diverse roles, so he quickly caught the eye of the most famous directors.

Actor today

Currently, Vladimir Yumatov is no longer young. But it remains popular and in demand. This is evidenced by the fact that Vladimir appears in films four times a year. He also does not forget the theater stage.

For example, in 2020, Yumatov took part in the filming of Torgsin. This dramatic film brought him some experience. The movie will be released on TV screens this year. Also in 2020, Vladimir played in the films “City”, “Crime”, Walking Through Torment. It is worth noting that his roles are minor. But they are rightfully the decoration of these films.

Popularity

The film “The Next Flight” brought real fame to the actor. The films “They Were First” and “Different Fates” put the actor on a par with the popular artists of those times.

Critics gave a positive assessment of Yumatov’s role in the film “Hardness.” They considered it their best work. The reviews contributed to the worries of the actor, who was afraid that he would no longer be offered worthy roles.

Vladimir Yumatov now

At 66 years old, the artist is in excellent shape: today Yumatov is at the peak of his popularity. 3-4 films with his participation are released a year, and there is time for the theater stage. In April 2020, Vladimir Sergeevich appeared on screens in the action-packed 8-episode drama Torgsin, where he played an academician.

Vladimir Yumatov in the film "City"

There are several more projects in production that viewers will see on screens in 2017. This is the 8-episode crime film “City”, the drama “Crime”, where Daria Moroz, Andrei Smolyakov and Pavel Priluchny will appear in the title roles, and another film adaptation of Alexei Tolstoy’s novel “Walking in Torment”. In all films, Vladimir Yumatov will appear in supporting roles, but they are so prominent that it is difficult not to notice the artist.

Personal life and family

The actor met his future wife while filming the film “The Young Guard” was underway. Actress Muse Krepkogorskaya really wanted to get the role of Lyubka Shevtsova. But the director realized that she was ideal for a different image. He gave her the role. The young people quickly fell in love with each other and soon got married.

Muse Krepkogorskaya gradually became overly irritable and nervous. At the same time, she blamed all the failures on the role that she was never allowed to play. She always took out all her anger on her husband. The marriage was saved only by the boundless love of Georgy Alexandrovich.

Yumatov was famous, received good fees, so the family did not live in poverty. Muse Viktorovna was attracted to parties. She really liked the new clothes. She constantly spent money because she believed that her husband could earn more. The husband did all the housework. Krepkogorskaya was sure that she was not created for everyday life.

The actor dreamed of having children, but his wife was categorically against it. Muza Viktorovna motivated her refusals quite simply: what if she was offered a good role, but she would be pregnant and would not be able to accept such a flattering offer. After Krepkogorskaya had another abortion, she became infertile. When Yumatov found out about this, he started drinking. Now many people think that Vladimir Yumatov and Georgy Yumatov are relatives; their photos can be seen on the website. But in reality they are just namesakes. If you think that Vladimir Yumatov is the son of Georgy Yumatov, you are mistaken.

For some time, the actor lived separately, but did not divorce his wife. For several years he drank heavily. But then he decided to return to his wife. Krepkogorskaya’s passion for outfits flared up again. She became a regular at antique salons and ordered dresses made. Such expenses constantly led to Yumatov’s breakdowns.

Muse Krepkogorskaya, the actor’s wife, appreciated her husband’s support only when he died. But it was already too late for repentance. Two years later, Krepkogorskaya also dies. She was buried next to her husband.

Personal life of Georgy Yumatov

At the time of meeting his first and only love, Yumatov was an aspiring actor. Georgy Alexandrovich's personal life always revolved around one woman. The actor met Muse Krepkogorskaya during the filming of the film “Young Guard”. The cheerful, charming and sociable blonde won Yumatov’s heart forever. The young people got married in 1947. Moreover, their wedding was quite luxurious. 40 guests attended the celebration.

With Muse Krepkogorskaya in the film “Paths and Fates”

Muse had noble roots: her father once accompanied the great Chaliapin. When the 30s came, the musician expected that NKVD officers would certainly come for him. These thoughts consumed Father Muse so much from the inside that he committed suicide. The Krepkogorsky family found itself in a difficult situation. Muse went to work as a laboratory assistant. In those days, she dreamed that she would become a famous and sought-after actress. In pursuit of a dream, the girl entered VGIK.

The Krepkogorskaya muse forever won the heart of Georgy Yumatov

While a student, she received an offer to star in the film “Young Guard”. According to the director, Muse was perfect for the role of the traitor Lazarenko. As Krepkogorskaya later admitted, she believed that her biography went downhill precisely after this role. The girl wanted to play Lyubka Shevtsova, but Inna Makarova was approved for this place.

Still from the film “Young Guard”

George was madly in love with his young wife. He indulged all her whims, fulfilled any desires. Directors often invited Yumatov to appear in their films, but he only acted with his wife. The girl loved expensive clothes and collected antiques. Krepkogorskaya did not reciprocate with her husband. She often took it out on her husband, loved to throw parties and did not perform household duties at all. Georgy himself cleaned the house, cooked and did the laundry.

Films with the actor

Yumatov’s debut serious work is the film “The Young Guard”. He got into the cast by accident. Director Alexandrov recommended that he enter VGIK. Sergei Gerasimov was just recruiting a new course. But the director did not take the actor for training, as he realized that he was already an accomplished artist. It was then that he invited the actor to play a role in the film “Young Guard,” which later became popular.

The artist managed to very successfully transform into Anatoly. After this film, Georgy Alexandrovich starred in several films on a military topic that was relevant at that time and close to him. Ordinary passers-by began to recognize the actor. The artist was an incredibly sociable and open person. But he never felt like an unattainable star, so he simply communicated with journalists and fans.

After this, the artist stopped agreeing to all the roles offered to him. He tried to choose complex characters with different personalities, so as not to be hostage to just one image.

In the 60s, he starred in the leading role in the film “The Cook”, as well as in the famous melodrama “First Date”. In the movie "Empty Flight" Yumatov played the role of a negative character.

Georgy Alexandrovich's performance was still impeccable. It was simply impossible to blame him for being lazy. The actor worked hard on each role to surprise and impress audiences and reach new heights of excellence. Vladimir Vysotsky recommended the artist for the interesting role of intelligence officer Biryukov. It was possible to create exactly such a hero as the director of the film saw him. All critics and fans came to the unanimous and quite fair conclusion that this is the best role.

Georgy Alexandrovich was offered to play in the beloved film “Officers”. The writers were 100% sure that the image of Alexei Trofimov would suit the actor. And that's true. When you watch this film, you get the full impression that the role was written specifically for Yumatov.

The actor could well please the audience with other interesting works. But he was ruined by an unbridled passion for alcohol. That is why directors often turned him down. In 1970, he was approved for the role of Sukhov in the legendary film “White Sun of the Desert.” The artist simply dreamed about this image. But the plan remained unrealized, as another breakdown occurred. As a result, the role was given to Anatoly Kuznetsov.

The 80s marked the decline of Yumatov’s acting career. He starred in three films: “TASS is authorized to declare...”, “Ogareva 6”, “Petrovka 38”. After them, he is no longer offered to act in films. As you can see, the actor’s filmography is very extensive.

INTERVIEW

About the dissertation:

“I defended my PhD in applied sociology at the Academy of Social Sciences under the CPSU Central Committee. The topic of the dissertation had little to do with ideology. I was interested in how the informal sphere of interpersonal communication influences the formation of a person and his social behavior. One of the reviews even said that I had made some kind of discovery. By the way, Gennady Zyuganov also defended himself at my department. Sometimes we played volleyball with him, and he was good at it.”

About negative characters:

“To be honest, I myself don’t understand why this happens! All my life, directors and actor friends have been telling me: “Old man, you have a positive charm! You can't play villains!" And at the same time they offer the roles of scoundrels!.. Recently, the wonderful director Konstantin Pavlovich Khudyakov invited me to a new project. I ask: “For the role of a scumbag, of course?” He answers: “Yes!” I say: “Why? Explain it to me!” And he said: “You see, your villain turns out to be more voluminous! There’s a strange thing about you: you seem to justify him!”

About the lack of acting education:

“I’m not the only one with such a fate. Smoktunovsky, Lavrov, Burkov, Savvina - all without acting education. The diploma is a formality. When a creative breakthrough occurs, the “crust” no longer means anything.”

About family:

“My rears are amazing, and it’s simply a sin for me to wish for anything more!”

Last years of life and death

The actor was absent from the screen for a decade. He had financial difficulties. He tried several times to submit the documents necessary to grant a pension to a war veteran. This was achieved only in 1994. Only then were all the papers found. In the 90s, Georgy Alexandrovich was offered minor small roles. The audience no longer recognized their idol. Many of them mistakenly thought that he had died long ago. At the same time, no one was interested in where the artist lived all this time, what he did and what he lived on.

Later in Yumatov’s life, a serious event occurred that became fatal for him. Not many people know why the actor was imprisoned, but in 1994 he shot a janitor and this loudly reminded him of his existence. The man expressed regret that it was not Germany who won the war. Yumatov was drunk and could not stand such an obvious insult. He fired. A lawyer and national fame helped to significantly reduce the sentence: from ten years to three. But the actor spent only two months in prison. After this he was released under an amnesty.

Alcohol and time spent behind bars had a detrimental effect on the actor’s health. Yumatov was diagnosed with a serious illness - an abdominal aortic aneurysm. It was necessary to urgently undergo surgery. But this did not lead to an improvement in the actor’s condition. Georgy Alexandrovich begins to look at life completely differently and visits church.

The last time Yumatov appeared on television was in 1997. He became a participant in the Field of Miracles program. A year after the operation, the disease returned. Georgy Alexandrovich refused to undergo a second operation.

The year of birth of the actor was 1926, the year of death was 1997. It is not difficult to calculate how old the actor was when he passed away: 71 years old. When he had the attack, his wife was with him on the last day. The wife called an ambulance, but the doctors were unable to stop the bleeding. The cause of death was rupture of the abdominal aorta.

There were a lot of people at the artist's funeral. Friends and relatives, as well as fans of his work, came to say goodbye to him. Everyone wanted to see him off on his last journey and pay tribute to his work.

Wife's abortion, alcoholism and murder: what killed the star of the film “Officers” Georgy Yumatov

Friends called Georgy Yumatov simply “Zhora”. The actor was adored by all segments of the population, he became the standard of masculinity, the favorite and friend of millions of viewers. Thanks to his military background, Georgy Alexandrovich was often offered the roles of sailors, underground fighters, and cadets.

The artist’s reputation suffered more and more after his marriage to Muse of Krepkogorskaya. Their relationship could not be called ideal, and those around them condemned Yumatov’s choice. Each new failure forced Georgy Alexandrovich to reach for the bottle more often.

He could have played dozens more brilliant roles, given up alcohol, and solved family problems. But the opportunities were missed due to a chain of events that finally turned the artist’s life into ruins. On March 11, Georgy Yumatov would have turned 93, but the public lost him 22 years ago. In honor of the memorable date, we will remember what led the actor to a sad ending.

HERO SAILOR

Georgy Yumatov’s first role in the film “Spring” // Photo: Still from the film

Muscovite Georgy Yumatov dreamed of a career in the navy from an early age, although he had never been to sea. He walked towards his goal, diligently studying textbooks, doing boxing and athletics. Having entered the naval school in 1941, from there 16-year-old Yumatov went to the front. At first he was appointed as a cabin boy on the boat “Valiant”, and a year later he was already made a helmsman.

Georgy Alexandrovich participated in a number of military operations of the Danube and Azov flotillas, for which he was subsequently awarded the Order of Ushakov. Yumatov was wounded and shell-shocked several times, but fate seemed to be saving the sailor for something important, and the hero returned to Moscow at the end of the Great Patriotic War.

By chance, at lunch in a cafe, the famous director Grigory Alexandrov noticed the charming sailor. The master was looking for an actor for a cameo role as a make-up assistant in the new film “Spring”.

“Ask the young man to come to our table,” he said to the waiter.

The request was instantly conveyed to Yumatov, who did not even know who Alexandrov was. However, the sailor listened to the director and received his first role, with which he began his journey in cinema. Yumatov’s character had to approach Lyubov Orlova and say just one word: “Allow me?”, and then tie the actress’s hair with a ribbon. This episode began the transformation of the sailor into an artist.

Grigory Alexandrov recommended that Sergei Gerasimov, who was taking a new course at VGIK, audition the aspiring actor. Impressed by Yumatov’s natural talent, the playwright soon called Georgy Alexandrovich to the film “The Young Guard”. The film influenced not only his career, but also his personal life.

DESTRUCTIVE LOVE

Muse of Krepkogorskaya became the love of Georgy Yumatov’s life // Photo: Still from the film

On the set of The Young Guard, Yumatov fell head over heels in love with Muse Krepkogorskaya, who played the traitor Lazarenko. The girl’s difficult character was influenced by the history of the family, which belonged to the noble class. Muse’s mother was from a noble family, and her musician father accompanied Chaliapin himself. After the revolution, they lost all their privileges, felt the severity of poverty, but did not forget their past situation.

When a wave of arrests began in the 30s, which included people from the nobility, the nerves of Muse’s parent could not stand it, and he committed suicide. The musician’s daughter had to work as a laboratory assistant to support her family, but she did not give up her dream of becoming an actress and entered VGIK. “The Young Guard” made stars of all the participants in the film, but until the end of her life Krepkogorskaya was indignant that she missed out on the role of Lyubka Shevtsova, which went to Inna Makarova. The artist was not consoled even by the attention of Yumatov, who became more and more popular and spent fees on his beloved.

“She often threw hysterics to her “Georges” that her acting destiny was not working out. And someone always crossed her path. In her opinion, I “worked” Gerasimov, and that’s why I got the role of Lyubka. In fact, Muse lacked kindness and charm,” recalled Inna Makarova.

The wedding of Krepkogorskaya and Yumatov for 40 people was luxurious. Every desire of the capricious Muse became a law for the lover. The wife loved to dress well and collected antiques, in addition to money. The sought-after artist agreed to collaborate with directors only on the condition that the chosen one would also be given a role.

Krepkogorskaya threw luxurious parties, for which her husband procured delicacies such as red caviar and balyk. “Georges will still earn money!” - Muse repeated carefree. Yumatov actually received good money after the release of the films “Different Fates” and “They Were First.” All-Union fame contributed to an increase in the size of fees, but they all went to the whims of a frivolous wife.

There were unpleasant rumors about Muse: they said that as soon as you promised her a role, the actress would agree to spend the evening in the company of the director. She was constantly looking for a person who would make a real star out of the “episode girl”. At the same time, the disdainful attitude towards the spouse outraged the family’s friends. Yumatov worked, washed and cooked, because Krepkogorskaya had neither the desire nor the time for everyday life. It was impossible to persuade the stubborn wife to do anything. Georgy Alexandrovich dreamed of an heir, but his beloved had abortion after abortion, claiming that she was afraid of missing out on the best role in life due to pregnancy. The last inept surgical intervention at a late stage led to her infertility. After the tragedy, Georgy Yumatov seriously relapsed for the first time and went on a drinking binge.

INCLINED

The relationship between Georgy Yumatov and Muse of Krepkogorskaya was far from ideal // Photo: Still from the film

Public recognition did not benefit the actor. Many invited him to feasts, but Yumatov did not even think of refusing, because he suffered because of the situation with his wife’s abortions. He did not get a divorce, but a major quarrel separated them for several years.

Georgy Alexandrovich went to great lengths, he moved in dubious circles, started short-term affairs with women. Fights, carousing and drinking constantly accompanied the actor. Then the artist reconciled with his wife, and the couple moved into a huge apartment, which many contemporaries could only dream of. Muse's passion for spending returned with renewed vigor: she disappeared into antique stores and resumed parties where alcohol flowed like a river. This had a negative impact on the partner’s increasing dependence, so Yumatov lost his temper more and more often. They said that Krepkogorskaya coded her husband, and then she herself put a bottle in front of him if she wanted to persuade him to do something.

The actor’s passion for alcohol did not escape the attentive gaze of the directors, who continued to invite him to filming, hoping for the artist’s prudence. The coveted role of the Red Army soldier Sukhov could have gone to Georgy Yumatov, since Anatoly Kuznetsov, who had been approved for it earlier, injured his leg. But shortly before the start of work, Georgy Aleksandrovich’s friend Nikita Kurikhin died in a car accident in a car that Yumatov “knocked out” for him.

“If it weren’t for you and your car, Kurikhin would be alive,” this phrase is rumored to have been uttered by actor Alexander Susnin after the funeral.

Yumatov, who already blamed himself for the death of his comrade, lost his temper again, beat Susnin and lost his long-awaited role. Director Vladimir Motyl warned the artist that if he started drinking, he would lose his job. Anatoly Kuznetsov, having recovered slightly from his injury, returned to filming.

Fatal illness and suicide of “Comrade Sukhov” Anatoly Kuznetsov

Georgy Alexandrovich's career did not end. In 1971, one of his most successful films, Officers, was released. The role of the red commander Alexei Trofimov was remembered by the audience. “You’ll see, I’ll play more than one good role. Something comedic would be nice! “I have a lot of strength and desire to work,” said the artist. But the actor’s expectations were not destined to come true, his popularity waned, and his wife increasingly rushed to go on dates with other men.

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT

Georgy Yumatov continued acting in the 80s // Photo: Still from the film

Georgy Yumatov received fewer and fewer job offers. Although he starred in 12 films in the 70s, not a single picture brought him satisfaction. The actor could achieve success in public activities, but his explosive nature did not allow him to find a common language with officials. And then came a period of poverty: inflation destroyed savings, then the couple was kicked out of the Actor's Theater. The family sold things to make ends meet, because the pension turned out to be miserable.

In the 90s, cinema changed. Instead of the roles of officers, Yumatov was offered to play a security guard or watchman. The time of oblivion has come. Imagine the surprise of the audience when the artist reminded himself of himself by killing a man! It is still unknown what exactly happened, but when the actor’s beloved dog Frosya, who had lived with him for 11 years, died, he asked the janitor to help bury the pet. Having gone up to Georgy Alexandrovich’s apartment for the “wake,” they started a fight. They say that the reason for the conflict was the janitor's regret that Germany did not win the war. The hero of the Great Patriotic War became furious and shot the offender with a gun.

“I know for sure that it was not Georgy Alexandrovich who killed that guy. But to tell now how it happened, in my opinion, is immoral. He grabbed a hunting rifle, a fight broke out between the men, the Muse intervened... And what happened happened,” said playwright Viktor Merezhko many years later.

Indeed, many doubted that even after drinking too much, the actor could deal with a person. They suspected that Krepkogorskaya influenced the outcome of the accident. But, one way or another, the artist admitted guilt and was arrested. However, the love of the audience contributed to the mitigation of the punishment: instead of 10 years in prison, Yumatov spent about two months in “Matrosskaya Tishina” and was granted an amnesty for the 50th anniversary of the Victory. But the tragedy undermined the health of Georgy Alexandrovich.

ILLNESS AND DEATH

Georgy Yumatov was afraid to go outside after the pre-trial detention center. It seemed to him that those around him saw him as a murderer. The actor independently decided to quit drinking and began attending church. But this did not protect him from illness. Doctors discovered an abdominal aortic aneurysm in the “Officers” star; the operation was difficult.

A year later, the bleeding began again, but Georgy Alexandrovich refused to go under the knife. The artist played his last role in the series “Transit of the Devil”, and according to tradition, Muse of Krepkogorskaya also got the job. Yumatov also appeared on television in the holiday episode of the “Field of Miracles” program. On the night of October 4, 1997, the actor choked on blood in his own bed. Hundreds of people came to say goodbye to the idol.

“I knew that Zhorzhik was popular, but I didn’t know that he was so popular,” Krepkogorskaya said at the Vagankovskoye cemetery.

Only after the death of her husband did Muse realize how much she had and lost. Her world narrowed to a thin slit and ceased to attract the widow. In a matter of months, Krepkogorskaya changed beyond recognition, dousing her grief with cognac. Neighbors helped her with cleaning and bought food.

Two years later, the lifeless body of Yumatov’s wife was discovered by family friend Viktor Merezhko. Having no children of her own, the actress bequeathed all her property to Merezhko’s daughter Masha, to whom she was attached. The artist, heartbroken and lonely, was buried next to her lover, whom she was able to appreciate too late.
