Actor Denis Rozhkov in Voronezh: “We need to wean ourselves off money”

Actor Denis Rozhkov became famous for his role as traffic police nickname Denis Antoshin in the Russian television series “Glukhar”. Year of birth – 1976, date – July 3, city – Moscow. Denis Igorevich was born into a single-parent family, and his maternal grandfather raised the boy. The actor practically does not remember his father.

Since childhood, Rozhkov dreamed of becoming an artist, so after school he applied to all theater universities in Moscow, but failed the entrance exams.
After a year of persistent preparation, he entered the Moscow Art Theater School and studied on the course of Oleg Tabakov. Upon graduation, he joined the Russian Theater Theatre, but first appeared on stage as part of the Debut Center.
Rozhkov remained unnoticed in the theater for a long time. To earn a living I had to perform at corporate events and children's matinees. Since 2003, the actor began appearing in films, but his roles were episodic. Success overtook Rozhkov only in 2008, although he no longer hoped.

Filmography

The first popularity was brought by the Russian TV series “Blind” and the role of a digger. About 10 years passed until Rozhkov managed to increase ratings in Russian cinema. In 2008, after the premiere of the series “Capercaillie,” the actor woke up famous, and the role of Denis Antoshin became the most significant in his “record.”

The only thing that greatly upset the artist was disagreements with Maria Boltneva, who played Antoshin’s beloved prostitute Nastya. The actors did not get along on the set, it even came to loud scandals and statements.

After “The Capercaillie,” Denis often appeared on the stage of the Old Theater, at the same time he played in films, took on any roles, but mostly went to law enforcement officers. In 2011, Denis appeared before the audience as a fighter pilot and played in the military drama “Alien Wings.” Other projects are “Alien District” (2012), “Vacation” (2012), “Peppers”, “Under the Gun of Love”, “Karpov” and “Pyatnitsky”. However, everyone remembered him as the unlucky traffic police nickname Antoshin, the bosom friend of Seryoga Glukhar.

Biography of Denis Rozhkov

Denis Igorevich Rozhkov is an artistic theater and film artist, TV presenter.
His greatest popularity was brought to him by the role of police officer Antoshin in the television series "Capercaillie", which was awarded the TEFI Award in 2010 as the best work in its genre. The actor is also familiar to the viewer from his work in the capital's Old Theater, where he serves, at the Moscow Independent Theater, and at the St. Petersburg "Baltic House". He also acted as a presenter in the television lottery “Russian Lotto” and the show program “Culinary Duel”.

Actor Denis Rozhkov

Despite a long period of failure and lack of demand as an actor, Rozhkov believed that he would definitely be lucky - he went to film studios, sent his pictures to acting agencies, and knocked on all doors. And his perseverance was rewarded - he was invited to the cinema, and, thanks to the popular series, his life changed dramatically. Therefore, in one of his interviews, he advised everyone who encounters obstacles on the path to their dreams not to retreat or despair, but to believe, like him, in their lucky star.

What Denis Rozhkov looks like now

The actor looked great in the image of Antoshin. However, during subsequent work, he noticeably gained weight, gained extra pounds, looked pale, swollen and painful. Today he is not immediately recognizable; he is no longer the same DPS nickname Antoshin.

It became known that the main reason for such external changes, not for the better, was chronic alcoholism.
The reason is simple - creative crisis, lack of self-realization in your favorite profession. Eleven years have passed since the premiere of "Capercaillie", but Rozhkov's ratings have not increased. It was also not possible to repeat Antoshin's triumph.
At first, the actor was happy about such a successful character and the prospects that it opened up for him. But Denis, after a couple of years, realized that he was a hostage to one role. It was not easy to get rid of the image of the traffic police nickname Antoshin; even one of the main roles in the military drama did not save the situation.

Hence the systematic drinking and a depressing appearance that leaves much to be desired. Many around Rozhkov said that Denis was “at the very bottom.” I am pleased with the theater, on the stage of which he continues to perform to this day.

Childhood and youth of Denis Rozhkov

The actor was born on July 3, 1976 in Moscow. The boy’s parents were divorced, but there was a person in the family who became Denis’s father; he was his grandfather on his mother’s side. Denis grew up quickly and became interested in music. Among his favorite performers he invariably noted Viktor Tsoi, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles.

Rozhkov Denis Igorevich did not immediately become an actor

At school, Rozhkov briefly attended many clubs, including a judo section, a football section, and a nautical club, but he was only interested in the theater studio. His love for the stage helped Denis successfully graduate from school - he was given satisfactory grades, thanks to the efforts of the young enthusiast in preparing creative competitions and concert programs.

Denis was finally able to decide on his choice of profession when he met at a competition for young readers with teacher and director Natalya Petrovna Ganysh, who directed the Zerkalo theater-studio at the Tushino Center for Children and Youth Creativity, where the event took place. She liked Denis’s performance and invited him to her team. Rozhkov accepted the invitation with pleasure; he already dreamed of becoming an artist. Grandfather, as usual, supported his decision, but his mother convinced him of the advantages of working as a lawyer.

After graduating from school in 1993, the young man tried to enter various theater institutes in the capital; creative tours took place at VTU. Shchepkin, Institute named after. Shchukin, VGIK, GITIS, Moscow Art Theater School. But everywhere he failed. Despite this, Denis’s confidence in his calling remained unshakable; the magic of the stage attracted him and did not let him go.

Denis Rozhkov on the stage of the theater

As an applicant, he met and became friends with Pasha Maykov, who also failed his exams. Subsequently, Denis took him to the Mirror, and they performed together on its stage.

To prepare for the next assault on theater universities, Rozhkov enrolled in courses at the acting department of the Moscow Art Theater School, managed to please Oleg Tabakov and subsequently studied in his workshop.

Personal life

While working in the theater, Rozhkov met his future wife Irina, who worked as a make-up artist on staff. It was love at first sight, the lovers almost immediately began to live together, but were in no hurry to get married. In 1999, a son, Ivan, was born into the family, and a couple of months before the long-awaited addition to the family, they finally legalized their relationship.

The girl showed great patience and even supported her family for some time. Irina supported her husband in his creative crisis, when he was not given roles at all. They lived in rented apartments and acquired their own home only in 2012.

Fake: orientation - gay

Several years ago, unverified information appeared in the press about the actor’s gay orientation. As it turned out later, this is a fake, and the actor is straight, husband and family man.

Denis Rozhkov's wife - Elena Popova

The actor met his first love at a theater school when he was in his second year. His chosen one was the red-haired student Elena Popova, whom he did not dare to approach for a long time. The girl spoke first, and a spark flew between them, and a whirlwind romance began. They dated for 2 years. They often quarreled and made peace, but the matter never reached the registry office. We parted as students, each going his own way without mutual reproaches.

Rozhkov's wife - Irina

Denis met his first and only wife already in the status of a certified artist. His chosen one was make-up artist Irina, with whom he worked in the theater. They dated for a long time, then decided to legalize the relationship.

They came to the registry office when the bride was six months pregnant. They were quietly painted; this solemn event was not accompanied by noisy fun. And financial difficulties did not allow me to take a walk from the heart.

According to the actor himself, he is very grateful to his wife, since she was the main breadwinner in the family during the first years of marriage. He believes that she acted wisely - she tolerated her lover’s inaction, did not reproach him for anything and believed in his talent.

“You know how ashamed I was when Ira earned money, fed me, and I didn’t bring home a penny. Yes, there was such a time. Now I remember, it even becomes scary. I was very worried that my wife would get tired of enduring this and as a result would leave me. Fortunately, Ira is a wise woman. She always supported me, inspired me, etc. I am very grateful to her,” admits Rozhkov.

Despite the importance of the profession in the fate of an actor, Denis Rozhkov believes that family occupies the main place in his life. Irina and Denis literally from the first days of their marriage wanted to acquire heirs. Denis Rozhkov had a child in 1999. Then the wife gave her husband a beautiful boy, whom the happy parents decided to name Vanya.

According to the artist, he was lucky with his wife’s profession. Irina moves in the acting environment, so she is familiar firsthand with working on the set. The wife does not need to explain the frequent delays at work, since from time to time the rehearsal or filming ends well after midnight. New photos of the actor appear on the Internet quite often. Often in photographs he is captured in the company of friends and family. He, of course, spends all his free time with his family, walking in entertainment centers, parks, etc.

DENIS ROZHKOV: “I live from paycheck to paycheck”

DENIS ROZHKOV: “I live from paycheck to paycheck”

The country's main TV policeman Denis Antoshin from the TV series "Capercaillie", aka Andrei Frolov from the TV series "Alien District" - actor Denis Rozhkov plays the trumpet and has not bought clothes for years, is afraid of a mortgage and knows how to live "from paycheck to paycheck." How star status is combined with responsible consumption - in an exclusive interview specifically for the “Star Stories” section on the portal “Your Finance.RF”.

— You often play police officers, but could you play a millionaire?

- I don’t know... How do millionaires live? We all have this image in our heads: a carefree man on a yacht, his hair flying, the sun shining, a martini glass in his hand, and next to him a beauty in a bikini, and they are sailing together across the ocean to Sardinia. I don't think this image of a millionaire matches reality. Millionaires are very busy people, and they are exclusively occupied with their business and money, their whole life revolves around this. I've never lived like this.

— Could you play a very poor person?

- What would be important here is not that a person is poor, but what he lives with. Recently a film about Van Gogh came out. Van Gogh was always very poor. He didn't have a penny. But what is important is what he lived with, what was left after him. After millionaires there is nothing left but a pile of money, which their descendants happily and cheerfully devour. And after talented people who lived in poverty, poems, stories, paintings remain. And we still watch them, read them, discuss them, and make films about these people. And making films about millionaires is boring. Well, there is the film “Oil,” but it’s not even about a millionaire, but about an obsessed person who wants to devour everything and everyone, such a shark... All we do now is talk about money, think about it, try to earn money, we dream about them, we send requests about them. And if you ask everyone: “They’ll give you ten million. What are you going to do with them? Now, if you give me ten million, will I become better? No, most likely, I will begin to degrade.

- Well, if a person does not have talents like Van Gogh, what else should he do?

- Now try to find a turner. So I needed a turner to bore a metal handle. It was impossible to find him. There are a lot of designers, go out into the street and shout: “Designer!” - and immediately fifty people will turn around.

- Who did you want to be?

— At the age of twelve I decided that I would be an actor.

- But you didn’t succeed right away. Have you ever wanted to change your profession?

“It’s not that I couldn’t do it.” I acted in plays, they just didn’t pay enough money for it, and

I made money by doing other things - doing video editing.

— And when you left video editing...

“I thought that I would continue to earn money from this.” But the dream of acting and acting in plays never went away. And now I have less and less hope that there will be some kind of material... some kind of script where I can embody all my experience.

— And it seemed to me that in the last couple of years we have had a surge in good TV series.

- Yes, there were good ones - “House Arrest”, a good “Bad Weather”, a gorgeous “Bloody Lady”.

- It seems that as an interviewer it will be difficult for me to get close to you...

- It’s not easy, it’s true.

— You say that there are no good roles. Do you fantasize about what a good role might be for you?

— Do you want me to present the role separately from the script? I'm on a white horse, my hair is flying, it's my wig, and the action takes place in the eighteenth century...

— It’s quite unexpected to hear all this almost from the country’s main police officer from “Glukhar” and “Alien District”...

- I'm not a policeman, I'm an actor.

— Could you play a bailiff, for example, who evicts your friend, actor Sergei Frolov, from his apartment?

(We wrote about this situation, see “Sergei Frolov: Sum. Beginning.” - Ed.)

— Again, the question is what the scenario will be. If it is “plywood”, of which there are many, and the bailiff will be bad because he is bad...

- He's just doing his job...

“That’s the kind of role I wouldn’t play.” But if they showed me how this person came to such work, that would be a different matter. After all, it’s very easy to find guardsmen. Just shout and they will be found. This has always been the case. So Saltychikha came to her village of Troitskoye and recruited guys there, made them haiduks, and they killed the inhabitants of their own village, simply because she told them: “Do what you want!”

—Are you talking about unpunished permissiveness?

- Undoubtedly.

— And would you like to play an internal conflict? It seems to me that the guardsmen simply don’t have it.

— I would like to play an interesting role. Here is Saltychikha... she killed 38-40 people, a third or two thirds - with her own hands. What can you do with this character? There is a beautiful script written that starts with her being a little girl. For me, cinema is always a story about how a person changes. And if you just play in social networks in gray tones... “Hello, I have this job, and I’ve come to evict you from your apartment.” - "You! You...” - “Well, what can I do?” (Says sadly.)

And then he comes home, Zina has prepared a simple dinner, and he’s like: “Eh, yes... work, of course... Well, what should I do? You have to live." I wouldn't like to play that way.

- And for ten million?

- No.

- Dollars.

- No, no and NO. You can’t charge ten million for such roles. You can’t pay ten million for this kind of material. Ten million don’t fall out of the blue like that. And if they fall, then you will then pay a serious price for these millions. And I don’t want my life to depend on money. Money is a means, not an end.

— What might your life depend on?

— From music, from literature, from painting, from loved ones, but not from money.

- If you don’t have money, then your life will still depend on it.

- Yes, this is such a looped story. I'm not saying that money is not needed at all. But personally, I need exactly as much money as I need to live, and no more.

— Do you manage to earn that much?

- Sometimes yes, and sometimes no.

There was a time when I was in debt.

—Did debt oppress you?

- No. Thank God, everything was sorted out. God always gives as needed.

- Do you think this is God?

- It's an idiom. But I am a believer. God gave us everything that exists, and it doesn’t even require any proof. Because all this could not have arisen so simply.

- The only question is whether he likes it all now...

- This is not our question. We are unable to answer it. Charles Bukowski said: “I don’t believe that you can change the world for the better. I believe that we can try not to make it worse.” Does God like this world? I don't think so. We humans are so-so creatures.

- And you too?

- And I.

- Why? I thought you were good...

- We all consider ourselves good. But if you look at yourself honestly... there are very few good, sincere relationships.

- Yes, there are as many of them as you like - good and sincere.

- Nevermind. Let's move on.

— Have you ever taken out loans?

- Yes. A long time ago I took out a couple of consumer loans to buy a camera. I used a credit card. When I had serious money problems, I lived off this card and then gave the money away. I have never taken out serious loans:

I’m terrified at the thought of taking out a mortgage for five million.

How many years will I give these five million? That’s all I’ll be busy with, all my thoughts will be about how to earn money so that these five million won’t attract interest, and my life time is already limited.

- What, even you, a person who starred in such a popular series, cannot afford to take out five million on credit and not think much about it?

“But I don’t want to take out a loan.” I don't like bondage. And then, in our country, loan rates are high.

— Who forms your home budget?

— I have no such thing as a “home budget.” I don't waste my time on money.

— And you never calculate your expenses? And don’t you think how much money will be left?

— I think, but minimally. I don’t have a notebook in which I write down expenses and make tables. One of my friends, also an actor, loves money very much and dreams of money multiplying right on his table. So he writes everything down.

- And you don’t save for anything?

- I have everything.

I haven’t gone to a clothing store for three years.

Although no, I’m lying. I bought two pairs of jeans a year ago. My jeans wear out quickly. I don't care about brands or marks. Clothes should be clothes. A car is a car. Although I don't have a car.

- Do you take a taxi?

— I walk, sometimes I take a taxi and very often take the metro.

— Will they recognize you on the subway?

- No. Seriously. They won't know. The fact is that people on the subway don’t look around at all. People on the subway don't see anyone. One invention helps a lot. You enter the carriage, and everything is in this invention. Do you know what this is?

- Certainly. Black mirror.

— This is the English version, but in Russian it is “My light, mirror, tell me...”, and the mirror answers: “Of course.” You have two hundred and fifty likes and forty-two comments.”

— You are talking about Instagram now. But there are smarter social networks where you can still express your thoughts.

“People leave their houses now and don’t see anything. They go to and from work and don’t look up from their phones. Okay, maybe they are reading something serious there, sharing information in the group on how to change the intercom. By the way, when I watched the film “Van Gogh” for the second time, in the cinema five people around us were sitting on their phones throughout the film. They turned off the screens and sat there, occasionally raising their eyes like this. And they probably think that they also watched the movie.

— Do you know how much money you have on your cards?

- Yes.

-Are you greedy?

- No.

— Could you buy something for a stranger?

- Well, we played a play in St. Petersburg, and a woman came up to me and said that she needed money for chemotherapy. I gave her fifteen thousand rubles. True, she turned out to be a fraud. Then a girl from the group’s phone broke down, and she was alone with her child, and her salary was small.

I went and bought her an iPhone.

These are ordinary things that any normal person should do periodically. And there is nothing like that.

- How did you know that that woman was a fraud?

“And a month after the performance she came up to me again and told me a different story. Then I asked my guys, and they confirmed that a whole gang of scammers hang out here, defrauding actors of money.

- Are you upset?

- No, I’m not upset. I don't mind the money.

“But sometimes it seems that you have done a good deed and it makes you feel good, but then it turns out that you just fed someone’s vice.”

“But I still did a good deed.” How she spent this money is up to her. When they come to me and ask me, and I have money, I will always give it. I told you: money is not something you should hold on to. And if I feel bad about being deceived, then it’s not about that scammer, it’s about me.

—Have you ever found yourself in difficult financial situations?

- No. I was never chased by bandits. As stated in the movie “Office Romance,” I have a normal relationship with money.

I live paycheck to paycheck.

- And you too?

- Periodically. People are afraid to admit that they periodically do not have money or filming... They think that this will dispel their charm and ruin their image. But I know very well what cinema is. Our people earn money in different ways and often live very lean lives. And they go about their business normally. Money is needed so that you always have the opportunity to help someone. And for yourself? For myself, I am learning to play the trumpet.

- For what?

— I have loved the jazz trumpet since childhood. And only at thirty-seven years old it dawned on me - I want to play the trumpet!

—Have you already performed?

- Repeatedly. I even have two groups already. This is what I like, and this is what I am ready to do for the rest of my life.

— Do you want to make money playing the trumpet?

- I would really like to. If I could earn money, then this would be a sign for me: I have reached some level. But it's not for the money. Moreover, I play jazz - not the most popular genre in our country.

- And who are you now, a musician?

- I? I! I am Denis Rozhkov. (Speaks in the voice of a cheerful announcer.)

A man who was born in 1976 in the Aleshkinsky maternity hospital.
At twenty-one hours and fifteen minutes this loud-voiced boy was born... I am an actor. (Speaks in a normal voice.)
I am a professional actor. I don’t know how good it is, but it’s professional.
