Mark Bogatyrev, biography, news, photos

Biography

Mark was born in the capital, but spent his entire childhood in Obninsk. The actor says: “The family lived in Obninsk. It’s just that my mother, being pregnant, went to Moscow to take exams, and suddenly contractions began in the subway, much earlier than the due date. I think fate made sure that my mother ended up in the capital at that very moment, because in Obninsk in 1984 there were no incubators for caring for premature babies, and I could have died. So Moscow saved my life...

Grew up without a father. I’ve never seen him, not even in photographs—my mother didn’t save them. She said that dad was an Armenian and served in the army in Obninsk. Apparently, he was a real ladies' man. Mom fell in love, a romance began, and I was born. My father was against my birth, and my parents separated. Does mom have a grudge against him? I don't know, I didn't ask. But I think not. She is a gentle person by nature, kind, although she cannot be called simple - a creative person, an artist, who once showed great promise in painting. We have a lot of her paintings in Obninsk, all, in my opinion, painted very talentedly.”

At school age, the boy began attending the local theater studio "DEMI", where he performed for eight years. “I studied acting since childhood - at the age of ten I first went to our theater studio in Obninsk. It was easier for me to exist, to live, trying on the images of heroes, to be “not myself.” It gave me a feeling of freedom and flight. Here’s a strange thing: we lived very hard, there was no money at all in the family, but it seemed completely unimportant, I ran to the theater with such zeal, studied for six to eight hours. And there was no happier person than me.

In fact, our youth theater “DEMI” is not an amateur performance, everything is serious there. The troupe is forty people, its own artist, choreographer, lighting, music. We did great choreographic and dramatic performances. We went to theater festivals abroad many times and won the Grand Prix,” recalls Mark.

Despite his passion for theater, after school Mark Bogatyrev, at the insistence of his mother and grandmother, became a student at the Faculty of Economics of the Obninsk Nuclear Energy University. After graduating from high school, the young man continued to dream about acting: “And as often happens in my life, these thoughts began to materialize: I accidentally ended up in Moscow for the casting of the film “Insatiable.” After almost two weeks of testing, I was finally approved. It’s incredible that a guy from the provinces without a professional education would be cast in the role, and even the main one - it was a miracle!

On the set, I became friends with Nikita Efremov, the son of Mikhail Olegovich. He was preparing to enter the Moscow Art Theater School. And soon after filming he entered, and I called with congratulations. Nikita suddenly said: “Why are you slowing down? Let’s study and go next year too!” That’s what Mark did, he took the course of the Honored Artist of Russia Igor Zolotovitsky.

History of success

At the same time, Bogatyrev acted in films. Some of his first film works were the films “New Year’s Tariff”, “Other”, “Idlers”. But real popularity fell on the young actor after the release of the cult series “Kitchen” in 2012, where Mark managed to shine in the role of Maxim Lavrov, a charming provincial guy who dreams of conquering the capital and becoming the most famous chef in Moscow.

Mark said that the role of Max Lavrov was easy for him, since he, in fact, played himself. During filming, the actor managed to master all the basics of the difficult art of cooking - he learned how to skillfully cut fish and professionally cut vegetables. He even had his own signature recipes.

After the triumphant premiere of the series, the handsome young actor with natural charm attracted the attention of many famous directors, and noteworthy offers began to arrive with enviable regularity.

An undoubted success was the role of Prince Vasily Alekseevich Zalessky in one of the most expensive costume projects - the historical film “The Great”. The filmography of actor Mark Bogatyrev includes more than two dozen films.

Spectators could see him in the productions of “Ondine”, “Cursed and Killed”, “The Master and Margarita”. To improve his deplorable financial situation, the aspiring actor worked part-time as a tutor for incoming applicants to theater universities. In addition, the young man starred in several domestic films: “New Year’s Tariff”, “Other”, “Lyubov.Ru”, “Far from War”, “Dads”, but at the same time remained faithful to the stage, believing that theater is his calling .

But soon the biography of Mark Bogatyrev sharply changed its direction. A fateful turn was the popular TV series “Kitchen”, which brought the actor tremendous success and popularity among the audience. Mark Bogatyrev got to the casting of the TV series “Kitchen” immediately after graduating from theater school. In the famous project of Dmitry Dyachenko, the aspiring actor played the role of the main character Maxim Lavrov.

Mark Bogatyrev in the TV series “Kitchen”

Mark took on the role of a skilled and ambitious chef from the provinces without any problems. And Bogatyrev’s charisma, charm, naturalness and acting professionalism allowed him to ideally create on screen the idea conceived by the screenwriters. His colleague on the stage was actress Elena Podkaminskaya, who played the role of art director Victoria, who throughout all the seasons of “Kitchen” had a stormy romance with the young chef Lavrov.

The sitcom quickly won the love of the audience, and the popularity of its characters and the actors who played them began to rapidly grow. Mark Bogatyrev and other “cooks” became welcome guests on television. In November 2014, Mark, together with his colleague on the series Valeria Fedorovich, were invited to the famous culinary competition “Master Chef” as judges.

In addition to filming the original series “Kitchen,” the actor starred in the continuation of the third season of the sitcom, the feature film “Kitchen in Paris.” The popular series has become the most expensive sitcom on the STS channel. At the end of 2020, the project was closed, this did not come as a surprise, since the reason for the ending of “Kitchen” was that the storylines of all the main characters were revealed and completed. However, fans created a petition for the continuation of filming, for which more than a million people voted. Currently filming is underway for another full-length film within the world of the series - “Kitchen. Last fight".

For Mark Bogatyrev, “Kitchen” became the first colossal victory in the harsh world of cinema; after the series aired, the young man had a lot of fans and offers from serious creators of Russian cinema.

In addition to “Kitchen”, Mark Bogatyrev starred in several other projects, in particular, viewers can see the performance of their favorite actor in the films “Teachers”, “In Love with a Witch”, “The Great”, “Champions”, “Spider”.

Cinema

The actor made his film debut in 2006, playing teenage bully Archie in the crime film Insatiable. While studying, Mark also starred in several youth films: “Other,” “New Year’s Tariff,” “Lyubov.RU.” The artist’s surname also appeared in the TV series: “Capercaillie-3”, “Dads”, “At Risk”.

"Kitchen"

Mark Bogatyrev gained fame from the popular sitcom “Kitchen”, in which he played the role of chef Maxim Lavrov - “Rump”. But the young man at first doubted whether he should go to the audition at all: “I wasn’t in a good mood. Before “Kitchen,” I was skeptical about TV shows. Good taste was instilled in us at the studio school. And in TV series you can bury acting talent... I came, talked about myself, fooled around. And a month later, director Dmitry Dyachenko already shot a pilot with me. It turned out to be successful, and I was approved.”

“I read the script and was interested in it. For three weeks we went to a restaurant where we were taught how to cut into strips, cubes, cut up fish and meat,” recalls Mark.

The actor says about his hero: “Max is rather purposeful. He has a clear goal - to become a chef, which he is working toward. I also try to be purposeful in everything that interests me. I had a difficult childhood, so I learned to deal with life's difficulties. And when you overcome obstacles, you overcome your fears...

I played, essentially, myself - a simple guy from the provinces who came to conquer Moscow. There I, perhaps, went there due to organic matter and appearance.”

During the filming of “Kitchen,” the artist managed not only to try dozens of a wide variety of dishes, but also to learn to have an excellent understanding of meat: “Yes, I tried a lot of things! And foie gras, and incredibly tasty desserts, and very original soups. And one day the chefs prepared us wonderful pilaf and sushi. While filming the first season, I learned how to cook croutons and grilled vegetables well. I also understood what several degrees of roasting of meat are and how to distinguish them.”

Plot: Maxim Lavrov dreams of becoming a chef, for this he gets a job in the restaurant of show business star Dmitry Nagiyev. Viktor Barinov (Dmitry Nazarov) works for him as a chef. He is strong in his profession, but loves to drink, is terrible in anger, and indomitable when on a spree. Only art director Victoria Goncharova (Elena Podkaminskaya) can withstand it. She is ready to go over her head, just to ensure the restaurant’s reputation as the best place in the city. As a result, the career woman falls in love with the cook Max, who finds himself in the center of an ongoing duel between the chef and the art director.

In the spring of 2014, the full-length comedy “Kitchen in Paris” was released. She became a logical connection between the third and fourth seasons of “Kitchen”.

Then Mark was again offered leading roles in the melodrama “Teachers” and in the sports drama “Champions”. In the historical film “The Great,” the actor played Prince Vasily Zalessky, and in the detective story “Spider” he played a circus gymnast.

Bogatyrev about the last two paintings: “Indeed, for me these are iconic works. After “Kitchen,” where I was perceived as a cheerful cook who constantly finds himself in some ridiculous situations, this is a completely different role. In “Spider” my hero is a circus performer, Georgian, very amorous, temperamental. There is much more masculine and real in him than in Max. This is a very lifelike character. As for the “Great”... Vasily Zalessky is a man of a different era, consciousness, with different concepts of honor and dignity. If Max constantly lied, ran around, tried to contrive, then the prince is a real standard of honor. So, from a frivolous kid, I moved to another “weight category”. (Smiles.)

Since my hero is a prince, I had to show this breed. I admit, it was difficult at first. I found myself in a historical film with very serious actors from a long and rather specific series. And it was necessary to rebuild, get used to a completely different image and be convincing in it. I worked a lot on the presentation of the text, the manner of speaking.

Vasily Zalessky stayed in the saddle very well, so I had to do a lot of horse riding. I learned to gallop. I started taking fencing lessons. And so these puzzles folded and folded, and in the middle of the picture a feeling of lightness came to me in this image. It even began to seem to me that in my past life I served at court. (Smiles.) I entered some buildings during filming and caught deja vu, as if I had been here before! It was both strange... and pleasant.

In general, at first the prince seemed overwhelming to me, but throughout the project I grew, communicated with my wonderful partners Pasha Derevyanko, Viktor Rakov, Sergei Shakurov... Absolutely positive memories of this work.”

"Angel Bait"

In October 2020, the Rossiya channel premiered the melodramatic series “Bait for an Angel,” in which Mark Bogatyrev played the role of successful businessman Ivan Lyubimtsev. The actor’s hero is rich, handsome and has no idea what kind of test awaits the family of his fiancee, the main character Dasha Panteleeva (Tatyana Arntgolts).

Work on the project required the artists to master additional skills and professions. “According to the script, my character plays the saxophone beautifully. I had to learn and it wasn't easy. As a result, I got involved and now plan to continue my studies,” said Mark.

"Birch"

On April 9, 2020, the Rossiya TV channel launched a high-profile spring premiere - the multi-part film “Beryozka” about the legendary dance ensemble. The events in the film take place in the mid-80s. In the center of the story are the fates of three dancers from “Beryozka”.

Mark Bogatyrev played a young official of the Ministry of Culture, Yuri Mironov. As soon as he became the head of the main department of musical theaters, intrigues began against “Beryozka” and the artistic director of the ensemble, Nadezhda Svetlova (Lidiya Velezheva). Yuri is jealous of Svetlova’s unquestioning authority and tries to “update” his repertoire. For him, this is an exciting struggle using administrative resources, and for Nadezhda Svetlova, “Beryozka” is the work of her life.

In the actor’s creative biography, this is the first role of this kind. “I can’t say that I’ve gotten used to it 100%; for me it’s always a process that never ends. I can't talk about the end result. Then I can only watch for myself and see the viewer’s reaction. I am interested in working, and this is the pleasure. Pleasure is a short-term concept, either I experience something from the scene or I don’t. I’m pleased to go to the site, I feel a desire to come here,” Bogatyrev shared.

The artist recalls that he did not immediately agree to this role: “It so happened that at the moment when they sent it to me, I was not in a very good mood. I didn’t read the entire script, and my hero seemed like a scumbag to me at first. I did not see in him anything for which I would like to sympathize with him. When I can’t justify a character for myself, I try not to take on such roles because I can’t help but love my character. Otherwise why would I portray him then? It seems to me that if the script contains a lyrical digression, to which the bad hero begins to react in a completely different way, then this is interesting, there is character development. And if the hero is written in a formulaic, one-dimensional way, I try not to get involved in such projects. And the character in “Birch” has both, so I eventually agreed when I read the script to the end.”

Filmography: films starring Mark Bogatyrev

His filmography includes many successful films. “Champions”, “Capercaillie”, “At Risk”, “Teachers”, “Great” - some films with the participation of Mark Bogatyrev. All his roles are played superbly. The artist holds the viewer very well.

The greatest success and wide popularity for Mark Bogatyrev was brought to him by the comedy series “Kitchen” in 2012. Here he had the opportunity to play the role of Max Lavrov. We can say that the life of the character and the life of the actor himself are very similar to each other, perhaps that is why this image became so close to the young actor.

While filming the series “Kitchen,” Mark Bogatyrev learned culinary skills: cutting vegetables into small cubes and cutting fish.

The young actor was involved in all four seasons of the TV series “Kitchen,” as well as in the 2014 feature film “Kitchen in Paris.”

Participation in the show

In 2014, the STS TV channel decided to combine the culinary show “MasterChef” and the popular comedy “Kitchen”.

In one of the episodes, the stars of the TV series “Kitchen” – Mark Bogatyrev (cook Max Lavrov) and Valeria Fedorovich (molecular technology specialist Katya) – appeared on the jury of “MasterChef” along with Arkady Novikov, Mirko Dzago and Denis Krupenya.

Mark Bogatyrev: “I liked participating in the show: the studio brought together people who have original ideas and a creative approach to cooking. Even though everyone here is a competitor, they support each other and fight fairly.”

In a special competition, the actors had to taste the dishes of the show participants and determine, together with the judges, who would remain in a white apron and who would have to try on a black one. Ironically, it was necessary to prepare dishes from pork rump - that’s what Victor Barinov (Dmitry Nazarov), the chef from “Kitchen”, liked to call Mark Bogatyrev’s character, Max Lavrov.

"A secret to the whole world"

But most importantly, the host will learn many secrets: secrets of craftsmanship, secrets of production, secrets of cooking, secrets of success and even secrets of happiness.

Mark Bogatyrev: childhood

Mark spent his childhood in the city of Obninsk, despite the fact that he was born in the capital. Mark lived without his own father, the only thing he knows about him is that his father is an Armenian who served in a military unit in Obninsk. When Mark's mother became pregnant, his father categorically did not want children and was against his birth, as a result of which they had to separate. Bogatyrev was raised by her mother, she is a creative person, an artist, and was previously interested in bohemian society. According to Mark, his mother often left him alone because her passion and creativity came first.

His grandparents also lived with Mark and his mother, and they fully participated in his upbringing. The family lived very poorly, so Mark often had to wear his uncle’s things.

Mark Bogatyrev: photo

Bogatyrev was little pleased with such a life; on the one hand, he was pleased that good things were shared with him, and on the other hand, he dreamed of when he would finally be able to put on a new thing, bought purely for him.

Mark's childhood was also not very fun, because he was a plump boy with a squeaky female voice. As a result of this, he was constantly bullied, beaten, intimidated, and no one communicated with him. But over time, his life improved a little. From the age of 7, the future actor discovered his incredible creative abilities. Mark really enjoyed performing magic tricks and making others laugh; he initially dreamed of becoming a clown.

His dreams changed a little at the age of 10, when he managed to get into a summer camp, in which Mark was able to show his true talent. There was a theater group there, headed by Oleg Demidov. He immediately noticed the boy’s talent and wanted to do his best to ensure that Bogatyrev did not stop and develop. At that moment, Deminov advised Mark to enroll in the Obninsk youth theater, which helped the future actor appear on the real stage for the first time.

His first role in “Emerald City” was not successful, because Mark forgot all the words from excitement. As a result, he was not given any roles for the next four years, but because of this, his desire only increased. Mark grew up and realized that he needed to prepare for such performances more seriously and devote himself to the stage as much as possible.

Actor on theater stage

To become more attractive in appearance, the boy took himself seriously, he joined the gym and transformed himself as much as possible. He became thin, so many girls could not deprive him of their attention. Thanks to these changes, Mark became more self-confident and had a new lease of life for his work.

At the age of 14, Mark Bogatyrev (see photo) established his personal life, he got a job, receiving maximum support from his family. Initially, he worked as a driver, then as a security guard, then became an administrator in a computer club. Now Mark remembers all this with a smile and is proud that he was raised to be such a purposeful and stubborn boy.

Personal life

There were many rumors in the media about the actor’s unrequited love for Elena Podkaminskaya, his partner in the TV series “Kitchen”.

“Lena is a wonderful woman and a talented actress. It happens to actors that relationships between partners in movies spill over into real life. There was love on my part - just huge. But this story concerns only us. I will say one thing: now we are in wonderful friendly relations. We communicate normally, we can joke and laugh. And we look to the future with hope. Everything will be fine - both for her and for me,” Mark himself explained.

Now Bogatyrev has a new chosen one, she is not an actress. “We live together, but we still need to mature for marriage. Get to know each other, get used to each other. This is a very serious step for me. I want to get married once, and for it to be a long and honest relationship, for it to be love. Not passion, but feelings. That's why I'm in no hurry. You need to make a conscious and correct choice - for life...

I think I've already had enough romantic outbursts to stop. Now I want a stable relationship, children - a boy and a girl. I’ve never seen my dad, but I hope to become a good father,” says the artist.

Further biography, new films

For three years he worked as an actor in the Moscow Art Theater group. A.P. Chekhov, then he was fired. At the same time, Mark Bogatyrev acted in films, but he was very careful in the choice of films. 2012 was a turning point in his acting career. Bogatyrev Mark Konstantinovich was invited to the casting of “Kitchen” and was approved for the role. In the story, he plays Maxim Lavrov, a cook by vocation who came from the outback to conquer Moscow. The film made Mark Bogatyrev a celebrity, but he himself, according to him, remained a simple guy and does not know how to react to it.

Constant filming from morning to evening, working at full capacity led to severe depression. At some point, Mark Bogatyrev decided to commit suicide, the reason, as he explains, was the feeling of fatigue, his own uselessness, and inability to solve something. There was an attempt, but fortunately the young man survived.

On the set of “Catherine the Great” he was faced with a choice: to get sick and refuse the role, as serious health problems constantly appeared, or to defeat himself and continue working. Bogatyrev Mark Konstantinovich decided not to give in to circumstances and soon felt that he had turned the situation around, he was happy and free. This became his second birth. Today, Mark Bogatyrev’s filmography includes 13 films.

Interview

About the roles:

“I’m not ashamed of any of my work, I’m a happy person!”

“I have always liked the image of Ostap Bender, so I would be happy to play a role of this kind. It’s not easy, of course, but I like the combination of audacity, charm, and the desire to break out of the company of lazy, boring people.”

About Me:

“I went to work at the age of fourteen, and at the same time I had difficult studies... Nothing was just ever given to me. I think it’s wonderful when everything is given to a person through work and obstacles, so he becomes stronger. At the same time, it is important to remain human, otherwise, it seems to me, some people, when they get into show business, lose qualities such as sincerity and turn into arrogant monsters.

He was an administrator of slot machines, then a security guard, a driver, and even built something and laid the foundation. I took a sip of real man's work. I am not an infantile boy with tender hands, but a rather practical person.

When I was seven, a team formed in our yard, and our leader was Kolyan, my friend. I was short, fat, with a squeaky voice, everyone laughed at me. I also had a funny nickname, but I won’t name it, it’s unprintable. (Laughs.) Every evening we sat on the veranda, and Kolyan said: well, come on, have fun with us. And I amused them, showed all sorts of tricks. I liked it and decided to become a clown in the future. Or a truck driver.

Yes. Truckers, as I imagined, are real men who drive big, powerful cars. Cool! And the clown... Well, I liked making people laugh. I remember when I was ten years old I went to a children’s camp and there one day I saw a funny man with glasses who was performing a pantomime. How surprised I was! It was Oleg Demidov, a theater director in Obninsk, and I went to see him. And after some time, I lost weight, girls began to like me, I had more courage, and I began to play bigger and bigger roles. So I realized that I was ready to do this all my life.”

As the actor said, it was Oleg Demidov, the director of the DEMI theater, who helped him make a decision in life: “He developed a taste for the profession and even for girls. He taught me to figure out where it shines and where it doesn’t shine. I grew up without a father, so Oleg’s participation was very important for me.”

“I am Capricorn by zodiac sign, very stubborn! If I need something, I will actively seek it. But relationships should be built on respect. If I respect and love a person, then, of course, I listen to his opinion and give in on something.”

About your name:

“As my mother explained to me, it is made up of the first letters of her and dad’s names: MARina and Kostya. And my mother really loved her great-grandmother, whose middle name was Markovna. The combination of these two factors gave me my name.”

About your hobbies:

“Since childhood, I have been a very athletic person, so at home I made a mini-gym for myself: a treadmill, a horizontal bar. I try to devote time to this. I love theater very much: the Fomenko Theater, the Satyricon Theater. I try to read, especially when I’m on the subway.”

“I think you should definitely read Dostoevsky and his brilliant novel “The Idiot.” While still studying, I avidly read “Perfume” by Patrick Suskind. Lately I have become interested in psychology. I'm currently reading Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead. I highly recommend it to everyone. This is good literature, deep, moral. Plus, from psychology, I would recommend reading Steve Pavlina’s “Personal Development.” This is a book that at one time really lifted me up and inspired me.”

"I am a music lover. As a child, I loved Michael Jackson very much, he was my idol. Now it all depends on the mood.”

About family:

“If a loved one is cold towards your creativity, does not understand it, a distance arises, which can then lead to a breakup. And vice versa, when you feel supported, everything works out for you, you fly on wings. Family is where we draw strength."

About food and women:

“The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach? – But this is definitely not about me. Feeding me is only half the battle. For me this is not the main thing. I can cook for myself. Place chicken breast in a steamer for 25 minutes, add tomato, cucumber, and lunch is ready. I treat food calmly, I don’t experience wild delight, like some gourmets do when they see a delicacy. Food is not the main thing. But if a woman knows how to dance tango, then yes! I also do not exclude a woman’s ability to maintain comfort and order in the house. I had the experience of living with a girl who was completely unsuited to everyday life. I came home from the theater late, I wanted to relax, but at home it was a mess. In the end, our story didn’t work out.”

Further education, first film

After graduating from school, Mark Bogatyrev entered the Obninsk Technical University of Nuclear Energy at the request of his grandmother; he could not refuse his loved one. And the arguments given were reasonable: you need to get a specialty that will help you provide for yourself financially. Studied at the Faculty of Economics.

During his studies, the thought of theater did not leave the young man. He often went to Moscow with his friends in his car to attend performances. An interesting moment from the personal life of Mark Bogatyrev. On one of their trips, they got stuck in traffic and were late. Suddenly a jeep flew along the median strip, Mark lined up next to it, the traffic light just turned green, he accelerated, and the friends made it in time for the last bell.

By chance, or maybe not, I ended up at the “Insatiable” casting. The audition lasted two weeks, he was approved, which was amazing. Mark Bogatyrev moved the session to the summer and went to Yalta to shoot the first film. Here he became friends with Nikita, Efremov’s son, who advised him to study to become an actor.

Mark Bogatyrev attended preparatory acting courses with Lyudmila Mikhailovna Ivanova for a whole year. For six months it didn’t work out well, he overacted, the teacher was dissatisfied. At some point, the student fell ill for a whole month. When I returned to classes after illness, things started to work out. Lyudmila Mikhailovna noted that the tension had gone away. And I myself felt that I was playing without playing, well. Bogatyrev Mark Konstantinovich entered GITIS and the Moscow Art Theater School, where he began to study acting.

Filmography
