"Messenger". The story of the last film by Sergei Bodrov Jr.

Name: Sergey Bodrov Date of birth: December 27, 1971 Where was born: Moscow Place of death: Karmadon Gorge Date of death: September 20, 2002 Profession: actor, film director

About this actor you can say: “That’s how the circumstances turned out.” He had already begun the path of a young scientist, was interested in history, everything worked out. But fate brought him to the set, where, without expecting it, he created the most striking image of the cinema of the “nineties.” Films with the actor are still watched, and a new generation is asking the question: “What is the strength, brother?”

Childhood and family

Sergei was born on December 27, 1971 into an intelligent Moscow family of film director Sergei Vladimirovich Bodrov and art critic Valentina Nikolaevna Bodrova.

His parents worked a lot, and Seryozha was often left to his own devices. He grew up as a calm, reasonable child, and the lack of parental attention did not negatively affect his fate. Moreover, Sergei has good memories of his childhood. As an adult, he believed that childhood “is the most important and most amazing time in a person’s life.”

Sergei called himself Russian. In fact, his nationality is difficult to determine unambiguously: his mother is Russian, but on his father’s side there were Tatars, Russians, and Buryats.

He was of average height and had an athletic build.

The parents divorced when their son was 13 years old. In his father’s new family, a girl was born, Sergei’s sister, who was named Asya.

Despite his parents’ divorce, Sergei was in close contact with his father and visited the set many times.

Biography and personal life of Sergei Bodrov

The biography and personal life of Sergei Bodrov is what worries the minds of his fans to this day. Despite having famous parents, Sergei was never “the boy with a silver spoon in his mouth.” Quite the opposite - he was used to dealing with all problems on his own, without relying on outside help.

His father, Sergei Bodrov Sr., is a famous Soviet director, and his mother, Valentina Bodrova, was a teacher at the capital’s university. Few people know that Sergei also had a sister, Nastya.

Biography and personal life of Sergei Bodrov photo

It is noteworthy that in the presence of such famous relatives, Bodrov Jr. did not want to become an artist. He studied at a school with in-depth study of French, loved to read a lot and was often alone.

When the time came to become a student, Serezha entered Moscow State University to major in history and art criticism. He even went to Italy to improve himself. Moreover, the guy earned his living in Italy entirely on his own - he worked on the beach as a lifeguard.

After earning a degree in his field, he wanted to go to work in a museum, but ended up in the movies instead. Let us remember that Serezhenka first made his debut as a child in his father’s films, among which are “Prisoner of the Caucasus” and others.

Actor's studies

Sergei studied at school No. 1265 with an in-depth French program. He studied well, was such an “average” student: he was not among the best, but he did not cause trouble for teachers and parents.

He was active, but not playful, and even became the school's standard bearer.

There was a tradition in the educational institution: the children worked in a confectionery factory, and as a reward they went on trips. Despite the fact that visiting a confectionery factory is undoubtedly the dream of any child, Sergei did not like the monotonous mechanical work, and he decided while still at school that he would do something interesting.

Of course, he had conversations with his father about cinema. The father explained to the young man that in order to engage in cinema seriously, you must have a great desire and passion for it. Sergei had no passion, he decided to follow in his mother’s footsteps and entered the history department of Moscow State University.

He was seriously interested in history. I was even able to get a job as a lifeguard at an Italian resort in order to spend the summer in this country. Then he will write his Ph.D. thesis “Architecture in Venetian Renaissance painting.” For three summers he did not rest, like many of his classmates, but worked in order to have the means to travel and study Italy, and he was considered lucky - he also spent time abroad!

Sergei went on archaeological expeditions and took part in excavations.

Not surprisingly, he graduated with honors and remained in graduate school. By this time, Sergei had developed into a thoughtful young man who loved to reveal the beauty of things, buildings, paintings. He was serious and knew how to analyze historical and contemporary events.

First filming

Communicating with his father and accompanying him on film expeditions, Sergei came into contact with the process of working on films. The first experience of transformation happened on the set of the films “I Hate You” and “SIR, Freedom Is Heaven.” The guy there didn’t even say “food is served,” but the attempt was successful.

Then there was a small cameo role in the film “White King, Red Queen” and finally, the father decided to try his son in serious acting work. Sergei played Private Vanya Zhilin in his father’s film “Prisoner of the Caucasus.”

The film was an interpretation of the story by L.N. Tolstoy, a kind of retelling of events during the nineties of the twentieth century. There was a war in the Caucasus, and the film found a wide response in the hearts of viewers. The young actor Sergei Bodrov was remembered.

What was surprising was the fact that without any acting education, Sergei was able to create such a convincing image that he was not inferior to his partner, who was the experienced artist Oleg Menshikov.

“Prisoner of the Caucasus” collected many prizes at international and Russian film festivals. Sergei Bodrov received the prize for best actor and best debut, the prefix “junior”, and entered the world of cinema.

Bright debut

Sergei Bodrov, whose filmography began with a cameo role as a juvenile delinquent in 1989, six years later was unexpectedly chosen for one of the main roles in his father’s film “Prisoner of the Caucasus.” When filming began in Dagestan in 1995, he asked to take him with him. And then, paired with Oleg Menshikov, he brilliantly played a young contract soldier.

The first role - and immediately a huge success. In addition to the prize for best debut, he received many accolades for his first acting work.

A television

In the early nineties, a popular program that millions of viewers watched on the country’s screens was the program “Vzglyad”. The father and son Bodrovs were invited as guests by the editor-in-chief of the program, Sergei Kushnerev. And then that same passion happened: Bodrov Jr. liked the idea of youth television so much that he remained the host of the program for three years, until 1999.

After leaving the project, Sergei said that it was “a very good school.”

In 2001, Sergei participated in the project “The Last Hero” as a presenter. The project of the VID television company, where he and his wife Svetlana worked, turned out to be super popular, including due to the personality of the presenter. Sergei approached the work with his characteristic seriousness; for him it was not just a show, he was actually interested in philosophically observing the struggle of the characters’ characters.

Clips

Sergey took part in creating video sequences for his friends’ songs. These musicians, whose works were used as soundtracks for films with Bodrov, became extremely popular among the youth of those years. Filming with Sergei was used in the videos of the groups “Agatha Christie”, “Nautilus Pompilius”, “Bi-2”.

In 1918, Vyacheslav Butusov re-recorded the song of the group “Aquarium”, sounded in the film “Brother”, in memory of a friend. The clip was presented on the musician’s channel and received several million views.

The unflagging interest in the image created by Sergei Bodrov is evidenced by the appeal to his work by young music video directors and bloggers, and multimillion-dollar views on Internet resources.

Family and children of Sergei Bodrov

The family and children of Sergei Bodrov are entirely creative people. It is known that Bodrov Jr.’s parents divorced when Sergei was only 13, but dad never stopped taking part in his son’s life. Nevertheless, the almost constant employment of both parents allowed the boy to grow up as an independent person, which, as he himself believed, greatly helped him in the future.

Very few people know that Bodrov Jr. has a son and daughter, and it was they who helped his wife overcome that terrible tragedy. The son was born shortly before the death of his dad, and Sergei was able to see the boy. The man didn’t want to leave his wife alone with their small child, but he wanted to finish filming as quickly as possible. Thus, it turned out that the children are growing up without a father, but his wife is trying to make up for this loss.

Films with Sergei Bodrov

After filming “Prisoner of the Caucasus,” director Alexey Balabanov met Sergei, who was looking for the leading actor in his future film. According to the test results, according to the director, none of the actors were suitable for the role of the “modern Robin Hood”.

Balabanov saw Sergei and realized that the problem had been solved.

The film crew recalled working on the film “Brother” as a happy time without sleep or rest. The director gave the artists complete creative freedom, and was extremely pleased with the young actor Bodrov, who performed directorial tasks without additional rehearsals.

The main character of the film, Danila Bagrov, was a collective portrait of a young man of that time - having served in a “hot spot”, returning home at a turning point when concepts of good and bad, friendship and betrayal were changing.

The film was a resounding success. Sergei Sergeevich Bodrov became more famous than his father, his hero was called “the symbol of the nineties.”

In numerous interviews, Sergei said that he is not an actor, he does not have a professional education as an artist, and that it is not at all worth ascribing to him the traits of Danila Bagrov. But he created such a convincing image that the audience associated Sergei with the hero of the film. Girls dreamed of meeting him, and boys wanted to be like him.

The next two years he starred in the film “Stringer” and the Russian-French project, the film “East-West”, where Sergei benefited from studying at a French school. He communicated freely, unlike his partner on the set, Oleg Menshikov, who had to memorize the French text without knowing the language.

Sergei had to play many scenes with the recognized star of world cinema, the French actress Annie Girardot. Sergei coped with the task “excellently.”

The film grossed $6 million at the global box office and was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars and Césars. Immediately after, Sergei worked on the continuation of the adventures of Danila Bagrov. Now, without exaggeration, the whole country was waiting for the film “Brother-2”. It was an interesting time, a lot happened on set for the first time, we filmed on a whim, as we felt. It was transferred to film. The film turned out to be truthful, despite the unusual and harsh plot.

The main character's statements were divided into quotes.

The motto of the generation became the phrase-question: “What is the strength, brother?”

The country hosted sold-out concerts of bands and performers whose songs were used as soundtracks for the film.

In 2001, Sergei accepted the invitation of his now friend, A. Balabanov, to play the role of Captain Medvedev in the film “War”. For this work, Sergei was awarded the Nika Prize for best supporting role.

There were also filmings in my father’s films: the role of a security guard in the film “Let’s Do It Quickly” and the role of Misha in “Bear Kiss”. While working on his first film in America, Sergei, having received approval from his father, decided to try his hand at directing.

Films by Sergei Bodrov (junior) - list of the best films

“Prisoner of the Caucasus” became the actor’s bright debut and showed how talented he was if he managed to fully reveal himself in his first serious work.

The films “Brother” and “Brother 2” about the open and straightforward Danila Bagrov, who administered justice according to his simple principles, made Sergei Bodrov one of the most popular actors.

In 1998, he starred in the film “Stringer,” playing Vadik, who films “hot” video reports from Russia for Western viewers.

In the melodrama “East - West”, in which Sergei played one of the main roles, he again met with Oleg Menshikov. In addition, his co-star was the amazing Picture Deneuve.

“Let's do it quickly” - in this action movie of his father, Bodrov starred as the head of security for a former Russian mafioso.

In 2001, the actor again worked with director Balabanov in a film about the second Chechen war. It has a simple and terrible name - “War”.

2002 – filming the title role in the latest film “Bear Kiss”. The actor’s father did not want to release the film after the tragedy, but then it was decided that audiences should see this work of a wonderful actor.

The films of Sergei Bodrov (junior), the list of which is very short and consists of only 12 films, are remembered and loved by viewers. In them, he is always extremely honest and plays so convincingly that it is impossible not to believe the actor’s characters.

Directing and scripts

The idea for the film “Sisters” as a response to the “boyish” edilogy “Brother” came to Sergei at the suggestion of his father. The idea captured Bodrov Jr. He wrote the script pretty quickly: his decent education and inspiration had an impact.

Sergei began selecting actors. He definitely wanted to do it himself so that everything would work out as planned.

Remembering his own experience of participating in the filming process, Sergei looked for performers who did not dream of acting fame, so that they would be independent and interesting in themselves. This turned out to be Oksana Akinshina, who did not rush to the set, dreaming of fashion catwalks.

Director Sergei Bodrov Jr. chose her, and the film “Sisters” became the beginning of the girl’s brilliant acting career.

The second “sister” was Katya Gorina, who was brought by her grandmother’s hand to the audition.

As a result, the girls played themselves in the proposed circumstances, as Sergei Bodrov needed. This is emphasized in one of the scenes in the film. When the sisters' characters in the film say their birthdays, the actresses say the real dates.

The film was recognized as best directorial debut. Sergei promised to continue directing.

He was a philosopher, a thinking and observing intellectual, and the viewer associated him with the image of “his guy” created on the set. As a director, Sergei wanted to express his observations of life, the development of society and the events taking place around him. The audience should have seen this in the film “The Messenger”.

The plot of the film was based on real events that happened to different people, whose stories Sergei was able to hear. Surely, the images of the main characters would become as collective and uniting destinies as “Brother” Danil Bagrov once became.

This script was a long time coming. Sergei called it a “philosophical and mystical parable.”

The filmography of Sergei Bodrov includes only 14 works. Of these, five are films starring Sergei:

  • "Prisoner of the Caucasus";
  • "Brother";
  • "Brother 2";
  • "East-West";
  • "Bear Kiss"

Life after the disaster

The father of the idol of millions refused the inheritance so that the widow had the opportunity to raise children. The family still has a four-room apartment in Moscow, and a house in the Moscow region, in Svetlana’s homeland. The youngest son is exactly the same age as has passed since the tragedy. Alexander, like his father, is interested in history. It’s no secret that Sergei Bodrov Jr. graduated from the history department of Moscow State University. The wife and children (photo presented in the article) honor the memory of their father. Their family keeps a relic - a large knitted sweater, in which the famous actor acted as Danila Bagrov.

In 2014, the eldest daughter Olya entered a theater university (workshop of Leonid Kheifetz). She has already made her film debut; the girl tried herself in a short film. The mother of the cinema star deified during her lifetime, Valentina Nikolaevna, published a book with Sergei’s dissertation. Few people know that Bodrov Jr. is a candidate of science: he wrote an excellent work on the art of the Renaissance.

Bodrov family

Personal life

Sergei met the girl Svetlana, who became his wife, during a trip of a working group of the VID television company to Cuba. Or rather, they knew each other, but never had the opportunity to communicate.

Svetlana worked for a television company and was at the forefront of the “Sharks of the Feather” and “Wait for Me” programs.

It was love at first word. A well-read, intelligent interlocutor, Sergei amazed the girl with his intellect. She knew that the young man worked as a presenter on the “Vzglyad” program. But at that time I had not yet seen the film “Brother”.

And Sergei later said that in his thoughts he had long drawn an image of his future life partner. And when I started talking to Svetlana, I realized that she was the same girl from my dreams.

They did not allow strangers into the relationship, they were friends with interesting people, but they loved spending time together.

He wrote letters to his wife full of love lyrics. But even there, in letters to his beloved woman, he often talked philosophically about death, or rather, about love and death:

“I always think about how we will live. You and I are very dear and very similar people. On the one hand, it’s difficult, but in the most important things, you and I feel the same and understand each other in the most important things. I really don’t know how people break up, but they don’t actually live several lives. Death is clear, but love is not."

“Still, love is more important. Regardless of whether life itself is more important than death. Why? Firstly, it is the only thing that can compete with it in terms of finality. If a person had to die, then the one who loved him will not stop loving him.”

In 1998, the couple had a daughter, Olga, and in 2002, a month before the tragedy, their long-awaited son, Alexander, appeared.

Now the actor’s children are already adults. Olga studies at VGIK, and Alexander plans to follow in his father’s footsteps by studying history.

The children have inherited their father's character, they are not heroes of gossip columns, and they refuse interviews.

Svetlana Bodrova never remarried; Sergei’s parents help her raise her children. Over the years, she met with journalists only once to talk about her Sergei, about love and memory.

Svetlana Bodrova, wife of Sergei Bodrov and their children: daughter Olga and son Alexander.

Sergei Bodrov's wife - Svetlana Bodrova

Sergei Bodrov’s wife, Svetlana Bodrova, appeared in his life in 1997. This was her second marriage. The girl’s first husband was a policeman who lived according to the principles of the “dashing” nineties, and often beat his young wife.

After the divorce, Svetlana moved from the Moscow region to the capital, where she was able to get a job on television. Then she began an affair with Sergei Bodrov. At the Cuban festival they were introduced by Otar Kushanashvili. It was love at first sight.

Svetlana was involved in the creation of such programs as “Sharks of the Feather” and “MuzOboz”. Today she works as the editor-in-chief of the “Wait for Me” program, and also often appears in films.

The couple did not wait for weather by the sea, and got married just a few months after they met. They absolutely adored each other. And if they happened to quarrel, they wrote romantic letters to each other. One of these messages written by Sergei is even considered prophetic. Because it was written shortly before the tragedy. There are lines that say that “if love is over, it probably isn’t her.”

Sveta’s feelings did not end after her husband disappeared. And she stubbornly did not believe when all her relatives said that her husband was no longer alive. Almost all her time she was at the excavations and continued to believe that her Serezhenka was alive and well.

In 20034, the excavations were officially closed, but the woman continued her independent search. When in the end nothing worked out, she came to terms with the loss of her husband, but did not betray him - she never remarried, continuing to raise her and Sergei’s children alone.

Death and memory

In the fall of 2002, the filming of the film “The Messenger” took place. The dates changed, were postponed, at first Sergei searched for a long time for the leading role, but not finding one, he decided to play it himself.

In August, happy circumstances in his personal life prevented him from going on a film expedition: Sergei became the father of a long-awaited son and chose his name himself. Getting into the car to go to the Caucasus, to the Karmadon Gorge, he told his wife: “Take care of the children.” And he left.

Filming began, Sergei chose the location. A perfectionist, he wanted the perfect result.

This was to be the only episode filmed in this fateful location: the main character caught a viper, but did it against the backdrop of a breathtaking view of the Caucasus Mountains.

Those who worked with Sergei on the film recall that the film was supposed to become a philosophical parable, that every frame was thought out and perfect, and it was expected that the film would become the pinnacle of the author’s skill.

On September 20, the film crew went to the Karmadon Gorge. Transport failed, and the work began at a time when it should have already come to an end. After lunch, the light was not the same and the group was about to return to base. Did not have time…

At 20:08 a huge mudflow from the Kolka glacier covered the gorge, rapidly moving at a speed of 120 to 200 km per hour (experts differ in their assumptions). People had no way to escape from the flow of stones, mud and ice as high as a multi-story building and as fast as an express train.

An avalanche swept away the village of Verkhniy Karmadon with all its inhabitants from the surface of the earth. And it covered those who were in the gorge area: tourists, border guards, Bodrov’s group.

The news of the tragedy instantly spread throughout the country. People learned about what happened to their beloved artist from the daily reports of rescuers from the scene of the tragedy. Everyone was waiting for news, hoping for a miracle. Rescuers went to the glacier and spent three months drilling holes, trying to find at least some traces.

When the professionals stopped searching, the relatives of the victims got involved. In general, the search work lasted two years.

26 people from the film crew of the film “The Messenger” went missing.

Now on the slope of the gorge there is a monument on which are engraved the names of everyone who remained forever under the ice of Kolka and the date of death: September 20, 2002.

Every year, relatives of the deceased gather on this mournful date and remember their departed ones.

Memory of the actor

At the place where the film crew disappeared, Svetlana Bodrova installed a memorial plaque with an excerpt from her husband’s letter.

official funeral , and there is no separate grave for the actor.

The memorial plaque was unveiled at Moscow School No. 1265, where Sergei studied for 10 years.

The country's central television channels show projects created about him: a person, an actor, a director. But the best memory of Sergei Bodrov is his roles and his films.

Media: Bodrov’s mother is waiting for help from the president

Valentina Nikolaevna Bodrova, according to the newspaper Zhizn
, wrote a letter to the president a month ago and took it to the Kremlin herself. Now she checks her mailbox every day, but has not yet received a response. Valentina Nikolaevna asked for one thing - to continue the search in the Karmadon Gorge. She is confident that given the current weather, rescuers and volunteers have every chance of finding the remains of people who died almost a year ago. Valentina Bodrova does not believe the words of representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations that nothing can be done. The official deadline during which she was supposed to receive a response from the president had already passed (by the way, she left North Ossetia only so as not to miss the letters), and the woman called the Presidential Office for Working with Citizens' Appeals. There she was told that there would be an answer soon, but not from Putin, but from... Shoigu. Bodrova was indignant, since she had long ago learned the response of the Ministry of Emergency Situations by heart. The Department promised her that they would try to do something, but so far no one has written to the mother who lost her son.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin himself found himself in an emergency situation, writes today’s Kommersant

. In Petrozavodsk, the Russian president... walked on water, like one well-known historical and mythological figure. The fact is that pipes burst at the Kondopoga pulp and paper mill a few minutes before the arrival of the head of state. Out of them, completely inappropriately, a colorless and odorless liquid gushed out - fortunately, it turned out to be water, even relatively clean one. The plant employees did not deny it and admitted that a full-fledged accident had occurred. When Putin entered the workshop, the water was already ankle-deep. This did not stop the president - he climbed up a small parapet, which he saw among the pipes and decking, and passed the disaster area. Vladimir Vladimirovich was followed by all the people accompanying him. Having bypassed the flooded areas, the President was the first to enter the adjacent hall. There was even more water there than in the previous one! Young guys with mops tried frantically to dry the floor, however, completely unsuccessfully. Putin thought for a few seconds and bravely moved through the water barrier. At a “dramatic moment for the entire history of our country,” the president behaved decisively, as befits the head of a great power, the newspaper reports.

Oleg Gazmanov, whose wedding took place last weekend without much fuss, gave an interview to the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper.

. The singer told the publication’s correspondent that several years ago, at first sight, he fell in love with Marina, the then wife of Vyacheslav Mavrodi. At that time, Gazmanov himself was not free. However, the lovers survived all the trials and finally decided to legitimize their relationship. At first, Marina was against it, she was afraid that after the wedding everything might change for the worse, but over time Oleg dispelled her doubts. The singer gave his bride a diamond ring for her wedding, and his friends presented the newlyweds with several paintings by famous artists. Gazmanov said that rumors about the huge fortune of Mavrodi’s ex-wife have no basis. After her divorce from her first husband, she was left without everything, without any prospects, and Oleg began to support her. By the way, today is my new husband’s birthday – he turns 52 years old. Gazmanov cannot yet celebrate this holiday properly, just as he cannot go on a honeymoon - in the coming days he must perform at several concert venues.

DeCl has matured and become Le Truk, reports Komsomolskaya Pravda

. On the eve of the singer’s birthday (he turns 20 today), a newspaper correspondent talked with the young rapper. DeCl explained his long absence from public by hard work on a new album, which, according to the musician, will be radically different from everything that came before. “There will be reggae and rap, and all this in several languages. A lot of female vocals, in almost every song, a lot of live instruments, also in almost every song. I’ll be honest: Moscow, and Russia, have never heard anything like this.” Kirill Tolmatsky stated that DeTsl as a stage image “is still alive, but Le Truk has also appeared,” a more mature character, whose work Grove himself admires. DeCl (or almost ex-DeCl) will celebrate his birthday in the company of friends. He plans to host a party for about 40 people at his home.

In Italy, a married couple was arrested for growing marijuana in the backyard of their house and... in a cemetery, on the grave of their own son, Gazeta

. The “grass” was born to envy - some especially fatty shoots reached two meters in height. Oddly enough, the people caring for the neighboring graves did not pay much attention to the marijuana; the green thickets pleased their eyes. The officer who arrested the Italian couple (both “agronomists” are 66 years old) said: “It’s hard to believe, but this happened. These people are completely devoid of respect for the dead.” The arrested themselves do not think so. In their opinion, the son would hardly be against the fact that marijuana was growing on his grave - during his lifetime he was, to put it mildly, very tolerant of it. The court intends to bring double charges against the criminals: growing the drug and “using the cemetery territory for illegal activities.”

Izvestia talks about the first private museum of myths and superstitions in Russia, which recently opened in Uglich.

. The creators of the museum - an artist mother and her ten-year-old son - not only collect mythical creatures, but also conduct ethnographic research. To date, the exhibition features all kinds of ghouls, kikimoras, witches, brownies and other evil spirits. By the way, the brownie in the popular imagination really looks like the brownie Kuzya from the Soviet cartoon, but witches are different. Thus, from ancient times, the southern Slavs believed that real witches were young and pretty, like Gogol’s little lady, and the northern witch was a typical Baba Yaga, an old woman with a hooked nose. Kikimora looks quite neutral, she looks like a middle-aged rural teacher. In fact, in pre-Christian mythology there are no creatures that are clearly good or bad - they are what a person wants to see them, museum staff say.

Newspaper "Russia"

became interested in the development of the so-called “scarf case.” A few months ago, Muslim women were allowed to be photographed for their passports with their heads covered, but, as the publication found out, only if they presented a certificate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs stating that they are indeed Muslim. Such documents have to be issued to imam-mukhtasibs and ordinary mukhtasibs - heads of spiritual departments of Muslims at various levels. At first, spiritual leaders were very surprised when women began to come to them for information, but now they have become accustomed to it. They decided not to take money for issuing documents, although initially they had such an idea.
