Songs by Veronica Kruglova

Veronica Kruglova was born in Stalingrad in 1940. During the Great Patriotic War, literally as a baby, her parents took her from Stalingrad to evacuation near Ufa. Already at that time, her life was in mortal danger when the Germans bombed a train carrying civilians. Only the carriage in which the Kruglov family was traveling remained intact.

After the end of the war, the whole family went to Saratov. It was there that she received her secondary education, and after school she entered the theater studio at the local Theater for Young Spectators. From early childhood, Veronica Kruglova dreamed of becoming an actress; at some point she decided that it was time to make her dreams come true.

True, she never managed to graduate from college. She was fascinated by a new passion - the stage.

Article: Veronica Kruglova: My mother-in-law turned my life with Kobzon into torture

But this is not the most interesting thing. Veronica Kruglova managed to be married to two Soviet pop superstars - Joseph Kobzon and Vadim Mulerman.

To talk with Veronica about married life with such famous men, Boris KUDRYAVOV went to the singer. To do this, he had to fly across the Atlantic, since Veronica has been living in America, in the city of San Francisco, for 12 years. Boris presented the singer with a bouquet of seven burgundy roses and, as it turned out, he guessed right.

“Seven is my favorite number,” Veronica admitted. — During the war, we were evacuated from Stalingrad near Ufa. The Germans bombed the train, and only our carriage No. 7 remained intact. Since then I have loved this figure...

windy girl

— I read that you are from Saratov.

— We moved there after the war: Stalingrad was completely destroyed, and my father had a house in Saratov. She graduated from school there and studied at the theater studio at the local Youth Theater. And then, having fallen madly in love with a conversational artist in her youth, she abandoned her studies and went to the stage. I was a flighty and incredibly amorous girl. True, my hobbies often lasted for three days, sometimes for a week. The longest is for a month. When I fell in love, I immediately completed the image of my loved one, trying to subconsciously squeeze him into the framework of my own idea of a real man. Inconsistencies were immediately disappointing, and interest disappeared. All my life I did nothing but search for perfect love. Maybe this prevented him from really pursuing his profession? Lord, almost all pop artists have very bad destinies...

- And what, this first man of yours was a famous entertainer?

— He worked at the Stalingrad Philharmonic. Tall, handsome, well-mannered - everything, as they say, is with him. His name will not mean anything to anyone today - Vilen Kirillovsky. This man was not allowed to sleep by the laurels of Arkady Raikin. I don't know if he's alive?

- And you just stopped liking him right away?

— We’re coming to Leningrad on tour one day. The administrators, not knowing that we are spouses, each individually offer to move to Lenconcert.

I immediately set the condition that I would decide to take this step only if my husband was nearby. I was refused. And Kirillovsky agreed to stay without me! His action could only mean one thing - divorce.

The joint tours were somehow finalized. Feeling the closeness of separation, Vilen said: “I made a mistake. You are too young and have not matured into a serious family life.” He calmly packed his suitcase and sank into oblivion. This is how my first life tragedy happened. Tears flowed like hail for days. I had to return to Saratov.

A month later, Vilen unexpectedly sent letters in which his soul was wide open: they say he cannot work and live without me, he loves me to the point of impossibility. Friends dissuaded: “Don’t come back under any circumstances, the man treated you meanly!” But some feeling was still simmering in my fragile soul; it was necessary to see the object of my adoration. Arriving in Leningrad during my vacation, I found out that by that time my ex-hubby had already been kicked out of Lenconcert. He began working at the regional philharmonic in the group of the popular singer Lydia Clement, who beautifully sang the song “Karelia”... This woman had a difficult fate, unfortunately, she died of cancer at the age of 28.

— And a new life began?

“With the help of the famous jazz musician David Goloshchekin, I won a serious creative competition. They began to invite me to literally all the super popular ensembles in Leningrad. I chose the team of Pavel Rudakov. For a girl from Saratov, the pop master seemed like a celestial being. He was considered Khrushchev's favorite and, together with his stage partner Barinov, often went to Moscow for government concerts. The two years we worked together were the happiest in my creative life. Pavel Vasilyevich treated me like a daughter. I became popular, although I never sang popular hits. I liked simple lyrical songs. For two years, being in an almost destitute position, she worked in a popular group. And suddenly I receive an invitation from Oleg Lundstrem! I had to leave Rudakov. True, she spent only four months in the famous orchestra. I became pregnant by Joseph Kobzon.

Strange wedding

— Where did you meet Joseph Davydovich?

— There, in Leningrad, at some group concert, around 1963-1964. Kobzon watched my performance from behind the scenes. And after that he expressed a desire to meet. I see him walking down the stairs funny, somehow official - sideways. He didn’t introduce himself at all, he began to say something, talk... Maybe he considered himself the king of the stage even then?

— Did he catch your eye right away?

— As a singer, absolutely not. He was not very flexible and not at all artistic. He sang as many people sang back then. There was nothing special about him then. He stood on the stage like an idol, as if he had swallowed an arshin, and strained to extract sounds from himself: “And in our yard...” Now he has become a magnificent singer and performs songs much better than in his youth.

I didn’t look at him as a man then. Besides, at that concert he stole my sheet music. The magnificent melodist Stanislav Pozhlakov had recently written the song “Top-top, the baby is stomping,” of which I became the first performer. In my purse was her only original clavier. Kobzon somehow managed to steal these notes.

- What makes you think that it was Kobzon who stole them?

— Familiar artists told how he picked through a stack of sheet music. I had to call him at the Oktyabrskaya Hotel. “Yes, my musician accidentally played the notes. I'm sorry. You can pick them up at any time,” he said haughtily. I was taught by my mother that it is indecent to visit men in a hotel. “No,” I answer, “I’ll drive up to the hotel now.” Please come down and bring the sheet music." He fulfilled the request. Before Pozhlakov had time to write the second score and orchestration, our song was quickly recorded in Moscow by Kobzon and Miansarova. Even after so many years, it’s hard to call such an act anything other than theft.

— When did you and Kobzon have an affair?

— Our relationship was not easy. It’s difficult to call them a novel, because for a long time they were one-sided: Kobzon harassed and persecuted me in every possible way. One day, Rudakov’s team came on tour to Moscow. The performances took place at the Variety Theater. I leave the stage to the buffet and hear the voice of the assistant director: “Who is Veronika Kruglova here? Answer the phone immediately." Taken aback, I ask: “Aren’t you confused? Who can call me in Moscow? And I hear in response: “Joseph Kobzon!” By the way everyone present turned around, I realized: this name already means something in the capital. Joseph wanted to invite me somewhere. I refused, citing personal plans. But he came with some friends. This did not inspire me in any way: I had a negative attitude towards restaurant gatherings.

A year has passed. Kobzon got into the habit of following me on tour. By that time he had already become a popular singer: when he appeared in some city, it immediately became an event. Once in Moscow, editor Ira Zinkina came up to television: “Can I congratulate you? Are you and Esik getting married? - “Who could say that?” - I was indignant. "Like who? Kobzon himself!” Words thrown in vain immediately began to oblige me to something. I got confused. It turns out that you can set people up in such a way that they will imagine: since Kruglova did not marry Kobzon, it means he abandoned her. Public opinion began to put pressure on me...

Joseph courted him in a casual manner. I’ve been inundated with flowers at concerts my whole life. Unfortunately, I can’t remember anything good associated with this person. We were together for about three years. The history of their life together consisted of quite banal stages: they got together, got married, got divorced, then got back together again. In general, continuous long farewells mean extra tears. All these unpleasant ups and downs are connected with personal drama: the marriage with Kobzon really broke me, it simply depressed me morally. As they say, vital and creative courage has disappeared.

— Where did your wedding with Kobzon take place?

— In the old and very beautiful Moscow Grand Hotel. He stood behind the Moscow Hotel, on Manezhnaya Square. More than four hundred guests were invited to the wedding. Kobzon always had super-scale in everything. All the “right people” were at the wedding table. I felt like Cinderella, abandoned by everyone, at my own wedding. There was no calculation in my marriage. At that time, Esik was, like me, a beggar, that is, absolutely no one.

We didn’t have a stake or a yard then. We had to rent a tiny 14-meter room in a huge communal apartment in the Karetny Ryad area. Joseph did everything possible to get a hold of Moscow, but for some reason the chairman of the Moscow Council, Promyslov, did not allow him to register. Once, speaking somewhere publicly, he said, cutting off like a knife: “Live at home in Dnepropetrovsk!”

At the insistence of Joseph, I once had to go with this request to his own father David. He worked in Moscow as an engineer. There was almost no impression left of the father-in-law: a small, puny Jew who ran away from his first wife when the youngest, Esik, was only six years old. I myself, working at Rosconcert, could do without a stamp in my passport for some time. And my husband used a temporary student registration. He first entered the Gnessin School, then began performing on stage and abandoned his studies. Later, already a mature master, Kobzon still managed to graduate from the Institute.

Bulldog breed

— Veronica, how was your relationship with your future mother-in-law?

“Ida Isaakovna actively opposed our marriage. This woman always remained for Kobzon the only authority to whom he could not say “no.” Unfortunately, she was a poorly educated woman, a very harsh, rude, even arrogant person, a kind of mastodon. Between his daughter and her three sons, Esik always remained the favorite. But I have no doubt: if one of her other children had succeeded in life more than he, the mother would have “loved” the other one more.

Once, back in our pre-wedding period, Ida Isaakovna saw a photograph that I gave to Esya with a touching inscription: “To my bulldog!” The future mother-in-law was very offended. “Why is your daughter-in-law calling you a dog?” - she indignantly reproached her son. To which he honestly admitted: “Mother, there really is something bulldog-like about us!” I myself had no idea that I would so accurately determine their true family breed. Wide lower jaw, powerful subcutaneous folds, stubborn gaze. And most importantly - grip! We must give Kobzon his due: with all his crazy love for his mother, he went against her will and married me.

But Joseph turned out to be his mother’s real son: just as tough, callous and terribly focused. To achieve his goal, he could, without hesitation, step over everything and everyone. Such people have no principles except one - ensuring their own well-being.

When we started spending the night with Yesya in that small room, his mother suddenly came to visit us often. She lived at that time in Dnepropetrovsk. Apart from her son, she had no one in Moscow. Working in different teams, my husband and I had to meet quite rarely. And each such meeting was considered a holiday. But as soon as they appeared in the room together, the mother-in-law immediately visited. And the holiday turned into torture.

Sometimes it turned out that a relative even slept on the folding sofa with us! The mother-in-law tried to somehow lie down on a cot, but there was nowhere to properly place her. This is how this woman deliberately and openly broke up a young family.

Nevertheless, by some miracle I managed to get pregnant. The pregnancy was difficult: toxicosis tormented me. To be honest, a young, completely unsettled family, and also without registration, had absolutely no need for a child. But Kobzon insisted: we’ll manage somehow. Due to pregnancy, I had to resign from Lundström's orchestra. Because the work became harder and harder. Once, while on tour in Czechoslovakia, I was so exhausted with my uncontrollable toxicosis that the bus on which we were dusting along European roads was constantly stopped, and my musician friends took me to the nearest ditch.

Moving to Leningrad

Feeling the strength in this genre, the heroine of our article, without hesitation, left the provincial theater to become a pop singer. Significant changes occur in the biography of Veronica Kruglova when she breaks out of her parents' nest to go to Leningrad.

She actively performs in the Northern capital and participates in creative competitions. The then-famous jazz musician David Goloshchekin helps her prepare for a serious creative competition, in which Victoria Kruglova wins a convincing victory. After this, viewers and music critics pay close attention to her, and her professional creative career begins.

Great voice. Stage, applause, fans, popularity... A wedding in a decent restaurant, a table for 400 people, the right people at the table - this is poverty for her. But there was a lofty dream of prosperity. Her dream came true in a foreign land. The USA is her dream come true. She needed 5 husbands to achieve this dream. Spiritual poverty. All that remains is to live with the memories of your mistakes and delusions, but in the reflections of the rays of bygone glory. Vanity.

After the war, the family moved to Saratov. After graduating from school, Veronica studied at the theater studio at the Saratov Youth Theater, but without graduating, she went to the stage. Personal life

When talking about the short biography of Veronica Kruglova, it is necessary to dwell on her personal life, which turned out to be eventful for the singer. She was married five times.

Her first chosen one was Vilen Kirillovsky, with whom she worked together at the Philharmonic. He was an artist of the spoken genre, and in everything he strove to be like Arkady Raikin, who was popular at that time. The young lovers got married, but their marriage soon broke up. It was on tour in Leningrad. Lenconcert administrators highly appreciated their work, but, not knowing that they were spouses, made each of them an offer to stay in the Northern capital separately.

Kruglova set the condition that she would agree to move to Lenconcert only with her husband. He was not accepted. But Kirillovsky immediately agreed to the new job, without making any demands. It was this act of his that jeopardized their future family life. After the end of the tour, Vilen packed his things, declared that their marriage was a mistake, and left his young wife.

Kruglova returned home alone. It is worth noting that Kirillovsky soon realized that he was wrong, bombarded his ex-wife with letters and asked for forgiveness. As a result, Veronica succumbed to his persuasion. On her vacation I came to see him in Leningrad, but by that time Lenconcert had already said goodbye to the artist, but the heroine of our article, who captivated the local public with her talent, became in great demand. The marriage with Kirillovsky, which was initially shaky, finally collapsed.

Episode from personal life

So, Stalingrad, where Veronica Kruglova’s personal life began. Photos from those years show that the talented girl was truly happy, having trusted the tall, handsome and well-mannered Vilen Kirillovsky, who worked as a spoken word artist in the Stalingrad Philharmonic. He imitated the famous Arkady Raikin in everything and really wanted to reach the same heights. Did not work out. It is unlikely that even the name of this person will tell our contemporaries anything. The Philharmonic Society, where the couple worked, constantly toured. And one day they visited Leningrad with concerts. Lenconcert administrators did not know that they were spouses, and an offer was made to each of them separately. The biography of Veronica Kruglova this year was not marked by a transition to another job. Because she set the condition that she would move to Lenconcert only with her husband. The condition was not accepted.

And Kirillovsky agreed! No conditions. That is, alone, without a family ensemble. This act brought the relationship to the brink of divorce. The tour came to an end, and Vilen packed his suitcase, declaring a mistake regarding the choice of his wife: young, not serious. And left. Veronica Kruglova returned home alone. Photos of this life tragedy were not captured, since personal life is one thing, and work is completely different. Vilen quickly missed his wife’s beautiful voice, began writing letters, desperately asking for forgiveness, and Veronica gave up. However, she arrived in Leningrad only after waiting for her vacation. By that time, Lenconcert had already said goodbye to Kirillovsky. And Veronica won a serious creative competition, and she was invited in great demand to the most popular groups in Leningrad. Veronica liked Pavel Rudakov's ensemble the most. And these, according to the singer, were the most fruitful and happiest years of creativity. She didn’t sing popular hits, but her popularity grew by leaps and bounds.

Meeting with Joseph Kobzon

Veronica met the then rising Soviet pop star Joseph Kobzon in the early 60s. The master listened to her performance from behind the scenes, he liked it so much that he decided to definitely meet the performer. However, Kruglova herself at first did not like either the singer himself or his manner of courtship.

Kobzon’s methods were truly extraordinary. At the first meeting, he secretly took the notes of her new song “The Baby Stomps.” She was its first performer, the work itself was only written by Stanislav Pozhlakov, so the copy was the author’s, in a single copy.

Soon after the notes disappeared, it turned out that they were in Kobzon's hotel room. Veronica realized that this was a way to lure her into visiting, and refused to get up. Then Joseph brought the sheet music to the taxi. True, literally the next day this song was performed by Tamara Miansarova. Kruglova was then amazed by this act and still considers it theft.

Veronica Kruglova. Part I

KRUGLOVA VERONIKA. She was born in Stalingrad, then lived in Saratov. Singer, very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. First husband Vilen Kirillovsky. She was married to JOSEPH KOBZON, then to VADIM MULERMAN. Lives in San Francisco.

Veronika Petrovna Kruglova was born on February 23, 1940 in Stalingrad. During the war, she and her family were evacuated from Stalingrad to Ufa. The Germans bombed the train, and only the carriage in which the Kruglovs were traveling remained intact. After the war, the family moved to Saratov. After graduating from school, Veronica studied at the theater studio at the Saratov Youth Theater, but without graduating she went to the stage. She moved to Leningrad, where, with the help of the famous jazz musician David Goloshchekin, she won a serious creative competition. She performed with Pavel Rudakov’s ensemble for two years, after which she received an invitation from Oleg Lundstrem and joined his orchestra, where she stayed for only four months. In 1991 she emigrated to the USA.

Veronica Kruglova: My mother-in-law turned my life with Kobzon into torture

In the 60s and 70s, Veronica Kruglova was no less popular than some Alsou or Kristina Orbakaite are now. At concerts, she rarely had empty seats, fans piled up with bouquets, and Veronica’s super hits - “Top-top, the baby is stomping”, “Perhaps”, “I don’t see anything, I don’t hear anything” - were sung by the whole country with pleasure. But this is not the most interesting thing. Veronica Kruglova managed to be married to two Soviet pop superstars - Joseph Kobzon and Vadim Mulerman. To talk with Veronica about married life with such famous men, Express Gazeta special correspondent Boris KUDRYAVOV went to the singer.

Joseph courted me somehow ordinarily.

Once, speaking somewhere publicly, he said, cutting off like a knife: “Live at home in Dnepropetrovsk!” At the insistence of Joseph, I once had to go with this request to his own father David.

Living together

Despite the disagreements that arose when they met, Kobzon did not give up hopes of winning the beauty’s heart. For a long time, the singer did not react to his advances. Although he often called her when Veronica was on tour with Rudakov’s team. Moreover, every time she was invited to the telephone, the girl was loudly announced who exactly was calling her. Kobzon at that time was already known throughout the Soviet Union, so this must have produced a certain psychological effect.

At the same time, Kruglova persistently refused to go on dates and go to restaurants. Kobzon followed her on tour for a whole year, constantly appearing in the company of mutual friends. Administrators across the country were already convinced that the artists would soon get married.

In the end, this is what happened. Veronica gave in under his pressure. They got married. They lived together for three years, which were completely joyless, as Kruglova herself now admits. In addition, she believes that this marriage broke her, becoming a personal drama, suppressing her physically and mentally.

Despite their popularity, the young family lived poorly. They had to rent a room in a communal apartment. In addition, it was impossible to gain a foothold in the capital; the Moscow Council sent Kobzon to his place of registration in Dnepropetrovsk.

Relationship

The biography of Veronica Kruglova was not easy. Photos of her personal life were not shown to her many fans. However, the courtship was then one-sided for a very long time. When Rudakov’s team was on tour in Moscow, they performed most often at the Variety Theater. Kobzon was already quite famous by that time, and therefore Veronica was loudly invited to the phone with the obligatory information about who exactly was calling. Everyone present turned around at the familiar name; this must have had some psychological effect. Veronica refused to go out on dates, she didn’t like restaurant gatherings, but Joseph would certainly appear in her company with mutual friends, wherever she was. For a whole year he followed her on tour, and for some reason, in all cities, administrators were sure that these two would soon get married. And if they don’t get married, it means Kobzon abandoned poor Kruglova. The fact that there was no relationship between them did not bother anyone. The public put pressure on Veronica from all sides.

As a result, despite the fact that neither Joseph himself nor his courtship pleased Veronica, she gave up. They got married and lived for about three years, which, according to Veronica Kruglova’s memoirs, were joyless. Moreover, she considers this relationship a personal drama that broke her, suppressed her both morally and physically. More than four hundred of the most necessary people gathered at the Grand Hotel for the wedding, but the bride felt superfluous at this celebration of life. The biography of Veronica Kruglova could freely omit this point. There was no settlement in this marriage, not even a penny. There was no love either. The question is, why all this? This is now Joseph Kobzon and he sings much better, and he has become, to put it mildly, not a poor person. And then they had nothing, not even a place to live. They rented a small room in a huge communal apartment, tried to gain a foothold in the capital, but the Moscow City Council did not meet them halfway, they sent them to their place of registration - to Dnepropetrovsk.

Relationships with mother-in-law

Veronica did not have a good relationship with her mother-in-law, who was against this marriage. Ida Isaakovna tried to control every step of her daughter-in-law. Perhaps the fact that she loved Joseph more than any of her four children played a certain role.

When Veronica became pregnant from Kobzon, she began to suffer from toxicosis. As a result, Lundström had to give up working in the orchestra. She simply couldn’t tour; she felt nauseous on the bus, and because of this she constantly had to stop.

When the baby was stillborn, Veronica developed sepsis, and doctors had difficulty saving her. Her relationship with her husband completely broke down. Veronica Kruglova talks about her divorce from Kobzon today with annoyance; it was accompanied by a large number of difficult and unpleasant moments. At first, the singer tried to kick her out of the two-room apartment, which they acquired in a joint marriage and managed to move into it. Realizing that the law was not on his side, he bought Kruglova an apartment in Medvedkovo. Soon, requests for her concerts stopped. She suspects that Joseph was behind this too, but she did not go to ask him to have mercy.

What was the impetus for the separation?

In turn, Joseph himself courted the girl as usual. Years later, Veronica boldly declares that she cannot remember anything good associated with this person, since even banal flowers were constantly present in her life, at least at concerts.

Photo: youtube

The couple had been together for about 3 years and their life story is quite banal: during these 3 years they did not have time to get together, sign, get divorced and return to each other again. In a word, as Veronica says, this relationship was a continuous long send-off. According to Veronica herself, this marriage greatly broke her and depressed her morally, and it was precisely for this reason that she lost interest in life and further creativity. The couple's family life did not work out even at the initial stage of creating this relationship.

In her interviews after breaking up with Joseph Kobzon, she does not even hide any feelings and speaks dryly and seriously about the relationship.

Vadim Mulerman

In such a difficult situation, communication with Vadim Mulerman became a real salvation for her. The then-popular pop artist recently became a widower. Soon they began performing together, and then got married. They had a daughter, Ksenia.

Vadim was a good husband, although a man with a difficult character. This was especially true before concerts. He worried so much that it often led to scandals. Veronica lived with him for more than 20 years, until he had a new main woman in his life - Svetlana Litvinova. They separated in 1987.

Mulerman immediately left for the United States, where he lives with his new family. He still had a strained relationship with Kruglova. On the talk show “Let Them Talk” on Channel One, he stated that he does not currently have an apartment in Moscow because it was illegally sold by Veronica. Vadim Iosifovich himself rents a small apartment in Brooklyn.

In the USA, Kruglova found her fourth husband. It was Odessa resident Igor Doktorovich, who refereed the national basketball championship in the Soviet Union. Little is known about this marriage; the only thing that can be said with certainty is that it soon broke up.

Now Kruglova is married to dentist Vitaly Andriyankin. Her daughter Ksenia lives in the USA and works as an artist-designer.
