“I left the circus when it was time to develop further”

Alexey, how did you decide to become a dancer and enter a choreographic school?

—— Everything is quite banal. My parents are choreographers, and I started dancing at the age of four. Next - a choreographic school, as a natural step in this direction. From then to this day I have been doing this with pleasure.

What dance style do you prefer?

— I don’t like to use any one dance style in choreography. I find it more interesting to combine and mix elements, and perhaps contemporary art provides the most opportunities for this.

How did you end up at the Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, where your work in Moscow began?

- Oh, this is a special experience, absolutely unlike anything else! I came to circus ballet immediately after graduating from college. This was my first position, dance experience, the first time I worked in a team and with choreographers. You know, then I realized that circus performers are different people, with different thinking. Not like dancers. Perhaps I was mistaken at that time, but to this day I think that circuses are more open. This is a different environment, life. I was terribly interested at that time! And he left the circus when it was time to develop further. Then there was a casting for the musical Notre Dame de Paris. There, by the way, I met my friend and colleague Miguel, a talented choreographer, director, who is one of the mentors of the show “DANCES” on TNT. Then it was he who invited me to this project.

In the “DANCES” project you mostly work individually with the guys. I know that there were also massive projects. For example, you were one of the choreographers who staged the opening ceremony of the Universiade in Kazan, where a lot of dancers were involved. What is more interesting to you?

— It’s difficult to compare, these are completely different stories, different ways of working with the material and interacting with the participants. One does not replace the other. Productions with a large number of people at large-scale events and impressive venues are numbers where mass movements and figures-drawings are effective. Working solo, you can put more individuality, give more technique, more contact things. Everything is interesting to me, because these are different aspects of self-development.

The most important thing is that your loved ones never suffer from the work to which you are devoted and which you love...

Karpenko and Grishina denied the charges against them

Tatyana Karpenko and Natalya Grishina, accused of preparing a terrorist attack in one of the shopping centers in Rostov-on-Don, testified at a hearing in the North Caucasus District Military Court. Tatyana Karpenko admitted that she sometimes lashed out at her daughter because of problems in the family, and spoke about the circumstances of the search in the house where the girls lived.

As the Caucasian Knot wrote, Tsimlyansk native Tatyana Karpenko and Kazakhstan native Natalya Grishina are accused of preparing a terrorist attack. According to investigators, the girls planned to commit an explosion in one of the shopping centers in Rostov-on-Don. They are also charged with facilitating terrorist activities and trafficking in explosives. In addition, Karpenko was charged with improper performance of duties in raising minors. The case against the third defendant in the case, Victoria Semenova, was separated into separate proceedings in connection with the conclusion of a pre-trial agreement. On July 26, the court sentenced her to three years in a general regime colony. On August 22, a specialist from the Forensic Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke in court and stated that the explosives found in the outbuilding where Karpenko and Grishina lived were of industrial origin.

According to the prosecution, Karpenko and Grishina became supporters of radical Islam. They persuaded Semyonova to commit a suicide bombing in one of the large shopping centers in Rostov-on-Don. An improvised explosive device consisting of explosives, self-tapping screws acting as striking elements, two electric detonators and an electric bell button was packed in a camouflage vest and hidden under the sofa in Semenova’s room, investigators say.

Tatyana Karpenko: “Each of us had our own plans for life”

On August 29, the North Caucasus District Military Court interrogated Tatyana Karpenko, whom investigators consider the leader and initiator of the idea of carrying out a terrorist attack, the Caucasian Knot correspondent reports.

Answering questions from lawyer Ramil Sefikhanov, Tatyana Karpenko stated that she denies all the charges brought against her.

Let us recall that, according to the indictment, Karpenko planned to commit a terrorist attack and, in order to find the location of the attack, in December 2020 - January 2020, she visited a shopping mall on Nagibina Avenue in Rostov-on-Don.

Karpenko said that she worked at the market in the Aleksandrovka area and traveled home to 85 Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street by two vehicles. According to her, there was a shared toilet at her workplace, so she went to Rio every day to clean up, warm up and buy necessary things and groceries at the shopping center.

“There are no videos or photos where I took pictures of security guards’ posts, video cameras, or stopped near the building diagrams,” Karpenko told the court.

According to the conclusions of the investigation and the testimony of Victoria Semenova, on January 12, 2020, Karpenko brought an explosive vest to the house on Narodnogo Opolcheniya Street, 85. At the hearing on July 31, the prosecution showed footage showing Karpenko entering the house with a package, the contents of which were not visible to the cameras and remained unknown. Nevertheless, investigators charged the girl with “illegal trafficking in explosives or explosive devices,” although the origin of the explosive vest remained unclear. According to the indictment, the girls purchased it “from persons unidentified by the investigation in an unspecified place at an unspecified time.”

Karpenko stated that she does not specifically remember the day of January 12, but she can definitely say that her friend Adam Khidriev, with whom she, according to the materials of the operational search activities, met that night, always gave her only things to wash. The girl, according to her, learned about the vest and explosives with hexogen after her arrest by the police.

Tatyana Karpenko rejected accusations that she and Grishina specifically found Semenova in order to persuade her to carry out a terrorist attack, and noted that Grishina and Semenova met earlier and were already living together before she came to them in September 2020.

“Each of us had our own plans for life. We are different personalities,” the defendant noted.

As for the self-tapping screws, which, according to investigators, the girls wanted to stuff into the vest for a greater damaging effect, then, according to Karpenko, they had them from their previous one-room apartment on Turmalinovskaya Street, where her husband Magomed Dandiev was repairing the crossbar in the closet.

Regarding the failure to fulfill maternal responsibilities, Karpenko admitted that she sometimes took it out on her child due to a divorce from her husband, problems with her parents, and a criminal case against her for posting extremist materials on the VKontakte social network. According to the defendant, she actually spanked the child, but there were no traces that were found by forensic experts. The defendant could not explain their origin.

Let us remind you that Tatyana Karpenko is also accused under Article 156 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Failure to fulfill obligations to raise a minor.”

Tatyana Karpenko also told the court about the circumstances of the search of the outbuilding on January 16, 2020 by law enforcement officers, after which a vest with explosives was found there.

According to her, early in the morning the owner of the outbuilding knocked on the girls' door. After they opened, there was the sound of boots, and several dozen security officers dressed all in black pushed Karpenko to the floor and put an impenetrable bag over her head, which remained on her head for about 10 minutes. The defendant reported that she heard the door being kicked in and other girls screaming in the house.

Then, according to Karpenko, they took the bag off her head and sat her on the sofa with Grishina, Semenova and Akhmedova, who was visiting them. After the dog handler’s dog sat opposite Grishina’s bed, the girls were taken out of the outbuilding “for safety reasons,” and for an hour they could not control the actions of the security forces in their house. During the search, law enforcement officers confiscated religious literature, electronic devices, screws and a vest with explosives from the girls.

According to Karpenko, law enforcement officers threatened to take Victoria Semenova’s child away, which is why she “turned white” and told her friends that she would not be able to withstand the pressure of the security forces for long.

Initially, the common position of Karpenko, Grishina and Semenova was non-admission of guilt. “We decided to tell only the truth, because lying will not lead to good,” the defendant said.

Natalya Grishina: “I can’t control all people”

The testimony of Natalya Grishina did not generally contradict the testimony of Tatyana Karpenko. She also denied all the charges brought against her. When asked by the judge why, as the investigator writes, supporters of the terrorist organization ISIS, banned in Russia by a court decision, “clustered” around Grishina in the Halal store, who then left for Syria, the defendant could not answer.

“I can’t control all people,” she said.

In addition to Grishina's interrogation, her lawyer Elvira Babenko read out the protocol of the confrontation between her client and Victoria Semenova.

According to the document read, Semenova denies that Grishina called on her to wage jihad against the infidels. She also denies that on January 16, 2020, Grishina was present when the package with explosives was hidden. Semenova also claims that Karpenko and Grishina did not talk about the vest, explosives and screws in front of her.

“Grishina did not exert any psychological pressure on me,” Babenko read Semenova’s testimony from the confrontation. According to Semenova’s testimony, preparations for the terrorist attack were carried out by Karpenko, and she can only guess about the extent of Grishina’s awareness of the impending terrorist attack.

“Karpenko’s interrogation confirmed our position. We completely deny all the charges brought against us and will demand from the court an acquittal for Tatyana,” Karpenko’s defender Ramil Sefikhanov .

Grishina's lawyers refused to comment on the process, citing busyness. There have been no comments yet from other participants in the process regarding the defendants' statements.

We need to keep up with everything

I read that work is paramount for you...

- This is not my formulation. I don’t have the position that work must necessarily come first. I think that you need to find time for everything, be able to combine things correctly, and set priorities. The most important thing is that your loved ones never suffer from the work to which you are devoted and which you love...

Are you able to combine your personal life and work within the “DANCE” project?

- This is the point where they understand me. The show takes 90% of my time and energy, but my close people support and help me with this.

At a press conference before the casting of participants in Novosibirsk, you admitted that your beloved is also the choreographer of the show “DANCES”

-
Natalya Terekhova... Isn’t she jealous of the participants, for example, of Alisa Dotsenko, with whom you had such a bright and passionate dance?
—— Ha! No. Dance is, first and foremost, an art. By the way, this number is very popular. And that's great. The goal was not to show the choreographer, but to increase interest in the participant. Everything has grown together. Alice's popularity then rose and ratings jumped.

Dancer, choreographer and dog lover: what do we know about the lover of ballerina Natalia Osipova

Jason Kittelberger and Natalya Osipova
This spring, 33-year-old Natalya Osipova presented to the public her new play “Mother,” based on Andersen’s fairy tale, staged by choreographer Arthur Peet (he staged, of course, especially for Osipova). A couple of days after the premiere on the ballerina’s native stage of the Royal Ballet, the capital’s audience also saw the production. In interviews, which were lined up with journalists from world publications, the ballerina spoke a little about her boyfriend Jason Kittelberger. Continuing the series of publications about the world of ballet, SPLETNIK.RU has collected interesting facts about the dancer and choreographer who won the heart of the Russian prima dancer.

Natalia Osipova and Jason Kittelberger

Jason Kittelberger was born on March 21, 1981 in Rochester, where he began dancing at the Performance Plus studio, and then continued his education at the Draper School of Dance and School of the Arts, where he studied dance, drama, musical theater and even stage design.

Jason Kittelberger and Sarah Lane at Draper School of Dance and School of the Arts

Jason Kittelberger and Jess Tretter at Draper School of Dance and School of the Arts

It was there that he first got the opportunity to express himself both as a dancer and as a choreographer. Jason then went to North Carolina School of the Arts. The dancer has performed with the Rochester City Ballet, Carolina Ballet and Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet.

Jason Kittelberger (left) in rehearsal at Rochester City Ballet

Kittelberger showed much more interest in modern choreography than in classical theater, and at some point began to work closely with the Belgian director of Moroccan origin Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, becoming not just a dancer, but also an assistant and rehearsal leader in his team.

Jason Kittelberger

There he also took part in the production of Qutb, where he appeared on stage with Natalya Osipova and James O'Hara back in 2016. The performance consisted of three one-act ballets - it is noteworthy that Sergei Polunin, Natalia Osipova’s boyfriend at that time, appeared in one of the parts. Unfortunately, nothing is known about Kittelberger’s previous relationships.

John Goddard, Natalia Osipova, David Hallberg and Jason Kittelberger

Natalia Osipova and Jason Kittelberger

However, at first, the Russian ballerina and the American dancer seemed to really only have a working relationship - the romance began much later. As Natalya admitted in a recent interview with The Standard, they have been dating for a little over a year, and in the spring the couple got engaged.

According to rumors, the wedding was planned for this summer, but so far no information from official sources about whether they have registered their relationship or not has appeared in the press. So far, no evidence can be found on the lovers’ social networks, although Natalya does not hide her personal life and actively shares with her subscribers photos she and Jason took during the couple’s trip to European resorts. So, at the beginning of the month they vacationed on Lake Como, and now, judging by the updates, they have reached France.

Natalia Osipova and Jason Kittelberger

Natalya Osipova and Sergei Polunin were, of course, one of the brightest couples in the dance world, but the characters of the two stage stars clearly did not promise them a calm life together. Polunin, the enfant terrible of world ballet, a very restless nature himself, could hardly have become that quiet haven for Natalia, one of the most temperamental dancers in the world. Jason became her. Osipova admitted that it was Kittelberger who provided her with the incredible support she needed both on stage and behind the scenes.

If I'm involved in a project that requires intensive work, I become more needy. I need more comfort, and if I don't get it, I get resentful. I need a lot of attention, especially from men - perhaps because my father had this amazing energy and ability to calm. Jason has it too and he gives me everything I need

- said Natalya.

He really sees me as a child, in a good way. I know my strength very well. Physically and emotionally I am a very strong person in art and in life. But there are times when you want to completely let go and be helpless, and he's the one I can do that with,

— Osipova shared in an interview with The Guardian.

The couple is also united by their obvious love for pets - Jason used to even have entries on his blog like “why do we need people when there are animals?” Looking at his Instagram, there really is no doubt that a dog is man's best friend. At one time, photographs of the furry pet appeared on social networks much more often than photographs from rehearsals.

Natalia Osipova

Jason Kittelberger

Jason choreographed a dance for Natalia in her program “The Light Breath”. Together, the lovers are also involved in the project “Pure Dance”, supervised by Natalya, where Osipova also invited one of her favorite partners, David Hallberg.

On stage, Natalya and Jason appear in a story called Six Years Later, directed by Roy Assaf, where the focus is on the fatigue and irritability in relationships that the lyrical characters experience. Critics of The New York Times noted that Kittelberger was in no way inferior to Osipova’s talent and charisma on stage.

And the ballerina herself appreciates not only the warmth and care with which Jason surrounded her, but also his professional qualities.

It's so different from dancing with a classical dancer. The whole atmosphere here is electric - as if everything is happening for real. He really showed me a different way to experience dance,

- said Osipova.

Kittelberger, by the way, works not only in the theater. As a choreographer, Jason has collaborated with Hollywood stars Emily Blunt and Benedict Cumberbatch. He has appeared in The Adjustment Bureau, MA, and Samsung commercials. In addition, Kittelberger collaborated with photographer and director Anton Corbijn on the music video In Your Room for Depeche Mode.

Well, we are waiting for news about the wedding and, of course, new joint projects between lovers!

I treat everyone like a pet

Did you have any favorites in the first season of the “DANCE” project?

- Yes, but I won’t say who. Otherwise it will not be fair to others. When taking part in a project, I have no right to single out favorites. After all, today I work with one person, tomorrow with another, the day after tomorrow with a third, and from a professional point of view, putting someone above the rest is wrong. I emphasize that each project participant should be treated like a favorite.

I maintain fairly good relations with almost all the guys from the show “DANCES”. We meet, hang out at some events and even continue to cooperate. I'm glad I met and worked with them.

Many project participants are now actively traveling around the country giving master classes, but you, according to information from the Internet, do not like to conduct such lessons. Why?

- I don’t have enough time for this. This cannot be done carelessly: if you have time, give a master class, if not, you disappear for 2 months. This is frivolous and poor quality. I believe that if you take on something, you need to either do it in good faith or not take it on at all. And I’m glad for the guys that they had the opportunity to implement their own projects.

When taking part in a project, I have no right to single out favorites...

Do you ever plan to teach?

— I don’t plan, but I don’t rule it out either.

What are your main goals at this stage of your creative journey?

— I find it difficult to answer. I usually don’t think of anything big. I’m just setting a goal that is difficult, but you can reach it, each time stepping over new obstacles on your way. Now I put more effort into the development of my son Nikita. He doesn't dance, but he has a good creative mind and I'm trying to figure out where to direct him.

I set a goal that is difficult, but you can reach it, each time stepping over new obstacles on your way...

What life goals are especially relevant for you now?

— One of my principles: when you take on something, do it well and strive to become the best. I don't like amateurism. I value reliability in people and I try to meet this requirement myself.

A little about personal life

Who is Alexey Karpenko? The guy’s personal life is hidden under the heading “secret”. It is known that he was married, but due to a busy touring schedule and constant training, the relationship broke up. Lesha has a son with whom he spends a lot of time. They travel together, discover new countries and horizons.

With the start of the “Dancing” project, in which Alexey took part as a choreographer, they began to actively take an interest in his personal life. Journalists attributed many novels to him. But as it turned out later, all their speculations were just fiction.

In March 2020, it became known that Alexei had a daughter. As it turned out, he has long had a relationship with Natalya Terekhova. The girl is also a choreographer, and a very talented one at that. In the first season of the “Dancing” project, she was part of Yegor Druzhinin’s team.

Alexey does not like to talk about his personal life; he believes that this concerns only him. It was not he who announced the birth of his daughter, but his close friend Miguel.

Biography

Choreographer Alexey Karpenko was born on January 15, 1982 in Belgorod. He decided on his profession as a child. Alexey’s parents are choreographers; they still teach modern and folk dance at the Belgorod Institute of Culture and Arts.

Choreographer Alexey Karpenko

From the age of 4, Alexey was dancing in an amateur group led by his parents. And at the age of 13, his mother found a choreographic school for him in Voronezh. In one of his interviews, Alexey Karpenko said that this city has always been famous for its school of folk choreography, and it was located nearby. As a teenager, he, like his peers, was drawn to discos and wanted to spend time with girls. But my mother said that the parties would not go away, and that I needed to get a profession.

Alexey Karpenko as a child with his parents

One trip to the school was enough for Alexey to understand that he had made the right choice. In Voronezh, teachers drilled him like a soldier on the parade ground. Unfortunately, the training covered only folk dance. Subsequently, the experience gained helped him master modern trends. In 2000, Alexey graduated from college and moved to Moscow. He got a job at the ballet of the famous Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard.

Show "Dancing on TNT"

Alexey Karpenko has been working at Dancing on TNT since 2014. He was invited to the project by Miguel, whose friendship has been going on for 15 years. The choreographer admits that the show takes up 90% of his time, leaving no energy left for anything else. Viewers fell in love with Alexey Karpenko in the first season of the project. They especially remembered the passionate dance of the choreographer with Alisa Dotsenko - the recording immediately gained tens of thousands of views on Youtube.

Karpenko regrets that airtime is limited - not all interesting moments were aired in the first season. Therefore, in the second season of the dance show, he continues to realize his ideas.

Alexey Karpenko rarely works with groups of dancers - more often he choreographs for individual participants. During the selection of participants for the second season of “Dancing on TNT,” he admitted that he pays attention to the potential of the dancers. Those who captivate with energy and are ready to step over themselves every time have an advantage.

Personal life

The choreographer says that he doesn’t like to sit in one place for a long time, but chooses places to travel based on his condition. He goes to Europe for aesthetics, to Israel to satisfy his creative hunger, and to Asia to disconnect from the outside world.

Alexey Karpenko

Alexey Karpenko also has a beloved woman - his colleague, choreographer Natalya Terekhova. By the way, it was she who helped him choreograph the passionate dance with Alisa Dotsenko - this is not the first joint work of the loving-creative tandem. They worked together on the choreography of the musicals “Cabaret” and “I Am Edmond Dantes”: there, sympathy grew into a deep adult feeling, but things had not yet come to marriage. Karpenko loves German cars and speed. He enjoys driving his BMW.
