Biography

Evgeniy was born in Leningrad. As a child, he often visited his relatives in the Novosibirsk region in the urban-type settlement of Krasnoozerskoye. The actor says: “I grew up in a huge family... When we gathered at the table, this table was several tens of meters long. And at the head were grandfather and grandmother. It was great to feel like part of a big family.” Like many Leningrad boys, Zhenya was attracted by the sea. I enjoyed going to the Young Sailors Club at the Palace of Pioneers. “I had a naval uniform and, as they say, “swept the Nevsky with flares.” This hobby was quite strong, I even cut out pictures of ships and pasted them into a special notebook. I dreamed of sailing to distant countries,” recalls Evgeniy Vladimirovich. Another serious hobby was wrestling, which the young man began to practice in the fourth grade. As many as five times he became the champion of his hometown. But after graduating from school, he was drawn not to sports, but to art.

“Once my friend Misha Mikhailov and I went to the People’s Theater. Misha did not stay there: he was more interested in music. And I really liked the atmosphere and the director Georgy Vladimirovich Ivanov, who literally welcomed me with open arms. He was the first one who suggested that I need to go to a theater institute, and such a course of life is quite possible. He aroused my interest in this profession, in the theater in general,” notes the artist.

Evgeny Sidikhin entered the acting department of the Leningrad State Institute of Theater, Music and Cinematography on the course of Igor Vladimirov. However, Zhenya did not study for long - already from the first year he was drafted into the army. He doesn’t like to remember his military service in the Turkestan Military District, where Evgeniy spent several months before being sent to Afghanistan: “It was a nightmare! I didn't even imagine that this was possible. Moreover, after the theater institute, where I was taught to “stand beautifully at the white piano,” and I believed that people’s relationships could only be just as beautiful... However, I was mistaken, and to be honest, Afghanistan seemed to me a very worthy place...” In In Afghanistan, Evgeniy Sidikhin had to take part in hostilities. Fortunately, everything worked out fine. Having been demobilized in 1985, he reinstated himself at the institute, enrolling in Lev Dodin’s course.

Childhood

Zhenya was born in Leningrad on October 2, 1964. There were three sons in a large and friendly family; Sidikhin has two brothers - Alexander and Konstantin. Mom, Klara Grigorievna (maiden name Okorokova), taught Russian language and literature at school.

The paternal grandfather, Sidikhin Grigory Anisimovich, was a military man; during the Great Patriotic War, together with Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, he headed the political department of the 4th Army. Dad, Vladimir Grigorievich, worked at a shipbuilding plant as a shop manager. Perhaps his father’s profession related to ships contributed to the fact that in childhood Zhenya fell in love with the sea.

In Leningrad, at the Palace of Pioneers, there was a “Young Sailors Club”, and Sidikhin signed up there. This hobby was serious, he dreamed of long sea voyages, he even started a special notebook where he pasted cut out pictures of ships. He also had a naval uniform, and the boy felt proud when he walked along Nevsky Prospect and swept it with his flared trousers.

As a child, Zhenya spent a lot of time near Novosibirsk with his grandparents in the urban village of Krasnoozerskoye. Numerous relatives lived there, and the boy really liked it when everyone gathered around the huge table. Grandfather and grandmother were at the head, and he, little one, was pleased to realize that he was a member of such a big family.

In Krasnoozerskoye, his relatives often took Zhenya hunting with them. He liked being in their company, but not killing animals. So Sidikhin decided on this male hobby back in his childhood, and until now there have never been weapons in his house.

In 1989, after graduating from LGITMiK, Evgeniy got a job at the Lensovet Theater. In 1993 he moved to the Bolshoi Drama Theater. Tovstonogov, where he played until 2000.

Beginning of a career: student life and first roles

Zhenya didn’t even think about the acting profession, but after school he decided to enter the acting department of the theater institute.
According to Evgeniy, he simply wanted to “share his vision of the world with others.” So in 1982 he became a student of the LGITMiK course of Igor Vladimirov, People's Artist and husband of Alisa Freindlich. Already in his first year, Evgeniy was drafted into the army, since he could not get a deferment, despite his mentor’s appeal to the military commissar. The actor never liked to talk about this period of his life. According to Sidikhin, his years in the army were difficult for him due to the “tyranny of the officers” - in some cases the soldiers were literally driven to madness. Eugene’s service in Afghanistan was also remembered for “sand, heat, and a complete lack of water.” In addition, while in service, Sidikhin managed to get sick with typhus.

In 1985, Zhenya was demobilized and returned to his institute, having already taken a different course with Lev Dodin, a legendary master who trained more than one generation of famous directors and actors, including Danila Kozlovsky, Elizaveta Boyarskaya, and Vladimir Seleznev.

In parallel with his studies, Sidikhin had to work to support his family. He worked as a cleaner on the Moskovskie Vorota metro platform, as a car repairman, and even as a currency “changer.” He returned home after rehearsals with Lev Abramovich at 2-3 am. According to Sidikhin’s recollections, his head was spinning from the “restructuring of consciousness” that his mentor arranged for them.

In 1989, after graduating from university, Sidikhin joined the troupe of the Lensovet Repertory Theater, where he worked for four years, then served for another five years at the Bolshoi Drama Theater. During this time, he managed to play Macduff in “Macbeth” based on the tragedy by William Shakespeare and Pablo in the play “The Savage”, based on the play “The Third Word” by the Spanish playwright Alejandro Casona.

Cinema

Evgeniy Sidikhin began acting in films in 1991. And here his past as a wrestler helped him. Thanks to his texture, he played one of his first roles - Viktor Dremov, a former boxer - in Nikolai Istanbul’s action film “Beyond the Last Line”. His filming partner was singer Igor Talkov.

And in Maxim Pezhemsky’s crime comedy “Mom, Don’t Cry!” portrayed a lazy and vain, but in Russian “soulful” bandit, who entertains casual spectators with a memorized number. While still a student, Evgeniy Sidikhin met Tatyana Borkovskaya, who studied at the same institute. According to the actor, it was love at first sight. “Tanya and I studied at the same theater institute in St. Petersburg, taking parallel courses. But they didn't notice each other. We met by chance outside the university while visiting friends. I immediately felt like a loved one and two days later I moved in with her,” recalls the artist.

Soon the lovers got married, and in 1988 their daughter Polina was born. After 10 years, a second girl appeared in the family - Aglaya, and after another 9 years - Anfisa. “While the eldest Polina was not yet born, I, of course, dreamed of a son,” shares Evgeniy. “But as soon as I took her in my arms, I realized that the girl was a hundred times better!” Muslims say: a father has three daughters, which means he is already in heaven. I feel the truth of this saying every day!”

The eldest daughter continued the family dynasty - she plays in the theater and stars in TV series.

In 2020, Evgeniy presented the continuation of the comedy melodrama “Neighbors”. Together with Elena Valyushkina, the actor plays a married couple who have settled in the village in retirement and are at odds with the family of a local tractor driver. Why didn't we see it in our box office? - Yes, she had a huge rental. The painting was immediately bought by 20 countries. America alone paid for the costs to the Germans. Max Furberbeck was accused of making a pro-Russian film about how good Russian guys really are. I really like the film. And it was a shame when the Entevesh people started coming up to me asking whether the Russians in the film were raping German women or not. Maybe they didn’t rent the film because there was no vulgarity or smut in it. Both Germans and Russians are shown there as thinking, feeling people.

— Many of your colleagues go into politics. Have you thought about becoming a deputy? “I don’t see any point in going into politics.” I really regret that I did not deal with this matter initially. Maybe I could bring more benefit to the people... But, probably, everyone should be in their place. Time has passed. I am 48 years old. Where should I go? What bothers me is beyond my power to fix. I go to the polls, but I understand their futility, I don’t believe in the fairness of the elections. But I won’t go to Bolotnaya. I think this is fooling people. — Have you ever tried to get into business? Don't want to open a restaurant like many artists have done? “You always have to do something, you have to raise children.” These are strange times. The world is unpredictable even for Europeans. I didn’t play it for long and put it on hold because I don’t have time. In fact, you are making me lie. (Laughs.) I have a real big yacht. — You were the host of the talk show “Two” on NTV. Why did the program close? “I didn’t like that instead of real people they invited actors from distant provincial theaters. I was complicit in this deception. And as soon as I realized this, I decided to leave. Nowadays, no one is interested in dealing with the case of neighbors who hit each other on the head with a frying pan. I would make a program about people worthy of respect. We have guys who sacrifice their lives, many scientists who do not leave the country, but try to invent something useful with their own money. For example medications. And this course, which is taken on “underwear,” is aimed at rotting, at putting pressure on a person. I recently spoke with one of the editors on a well-known channel. I suggested that he do something positive, humanistic, but he brushed it off. There will be no rating, they say. We need black matter and blood. They know better. But I'm sick of it! — You have more than 70 paintings. You talk about your incredible workload. Why did you agree to star in Liteiny? — I like the team of actors. When I saw the guys in other films, I decided that it would be good to work with them. Everything worked out so well for them. And therefore, when they offered to take part in Liteiny, I did not hesitate.

— You starred with Anna Samokhina in the series “Russian Transit”. Her birthday is coming soon - Anna would have turned 50 years old. How do you remember her? - Anya is a very beautiful woman. It was easy with her, although we did not become great friends. He came to say goodbye to her. I don’t like all this crowd, goodbyes. You know, like in Yuri Trifonov’s story “The Old Man”: memory is the accumulation of deaths. We met on the train, when we were traveling from Moscow, Anya climbed onto the top bunk, and I lay on the bottom. She couldn’t sleep, she went down and went out to stand. I approached, introduced myself, and said that I was also an actor. In response, Anna looked at me coldly from head to toe. That’s when I thought: “Boy, where are you going?” Six months later we met on the set. There was no longer any sense of coldness on her part. They worked together, had fun, drank.
